Marvel's Thor is apparently a woman now (1 Viewer)

In Frank L. Baum's second Oz book, called The Land of Oz, a boy named Pip realizes that he is actually a girl, enters a strange machine, and comes out as Princess Ozma of Oz.

A woman shouldn't have a hammer. She should have a spatula. AMIRITE?
Here's the thing... Marvel has said they want to be more open to appealing to both genders... but it's been proven that people don't buy chick comics... but they keep pushing this agenda.

Look at all the chick comics they put out:

Elektra

She-Hulk

Storm is getting her own book for awhile soon

Ms. Marvel

Those are just off the top of my head.

So of course... take a popular dude character and make him a chick... maybe #####es will buy that?

And no one buys that crap.
I don't think you can really compare past sales to new sales. There is a much larger market for female characters. Same thing is going to happen in video games. Women are driving the spending in these areas right now so they get a little something. Plus this is Marvel's way of answering critics that claim they don't have enough strong female characters.

Last I heard, Batgirl was one of the highest selling comics in the country for a run of about a year and a half. Isn't that the case anymore?

Comic book sales seem to be heading up, for now at least, so I'm sure we'll see more of these types of gimmicks.
definitely... and a new gimmick is making sure there are plenty of #1 issues every few weeks.. because for whatever reason #0, 0.1, and #1 issues sell well.. like people think collecting comics still might have future value.
again

this is not new!

crossovers, foil covers, multiple covers, spiderman married spideman divorced jean grey is a clone or an alien or a god or whatever, superman is dead, 4 supermen, robin dies, new robin, batman breaks his back, new batman, new captain america, dead captain america, etc etc etc...

this is the way comics have been for decades at least

Yeah, but it was rare. Now they're doing this stuff constantly.

i do not think it was rare at all, it may be more frequent now, though. But comics are also less of a stigma now, and the movies are popular, so there's an opportunity to bring in new collectors and subscribers, it makes sense they are gonna throw everything they have at it.

And apparently Ms. Marvel is #1 in Marvel's digital sales.
That article is from February, when it first came out to media fanfare and people bought it to see what the fuss was about. What is it now?
For traditional comic book sales across all publishers (I believe this does not factor in digital downloads) Harley Quinn is #4 overall, Wonder Woman is #29 overall, Batgirl is #30 overall, Ms. Marvel is #61 overall for June, 2014.

I don't know where to find digital numbers.

See this is why you should watch professional wrestling if you want your manly heroes to stay unchanged. Forget comics.
