Update from RotoWorld:

Marvin Harrison was held out of Colts practice Wednesday on a team decision.

Harrison is expected to play this week against New England by most accounts, but a full practice later in the week would provide more confidence in his availability. He hasnt practiced completely in several weeks now.

Source: colts.com

Quote from Dungy:

Dungy said he anticipated Harrison, who has missed two of the last three games, practicing Thursday.

“I think he’ll play, but we’ll see how he does,” Dungy said.

Are they still calling that thing a "bruised" knee? If so, that's the most severe bruise Ive ever heard of. And they talk about Belichick withholding information.

Per Fanball...doesn't look good

Colts: Harrison sits out, still questionable for Sunday

10/31/07 09:28 PM

THE NEWS

Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison was held out of Wednesday's practice as a result of a "team decision." Harrison has missed two of the last three games with a knee injury, but head coach Tony Dungy is of the opinion that Harrison will play on Sunday. "He won't practice today, but I do anticipate that he'll practice tomorrow," Dungy said. "I think he'll play (Sunday), but we'll have to see how it goes."

Our View

Reggie Wayne has certainly passed Harrison as the number one receiver in Indy, but when healthy Harrison would still be the best number two in the league. The fact that the Colts play the also undefeated Patriots this weekend, might force Harrison's hand, and chances are if he can walk, he'll play.

If he does play, I wouldn't count on too much from him. Look what he did two weeks ago when he did play. If he's having his hand forced to play, he'll probably get 5/57.

Ugh

From RotoWorld:

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Marvin Harrison (team decision) will be listed as doubtful for Week 9 against the Patriots.

There must be some damage to the knee, this is not a bruise.

So did he practice today?
Nope. He didn't practice.Colts | Harrison uncertain to play Week 9Thu, 1 Nov 2007 14:44:54 -0700Indianapolis Colts WR Marvin Harrison (knee) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 1, and is uncertain to play Week 9.

He must be hurt pretty bad if he cannot suit up for this week's game. This is a very big game for Indy. I am concerned.

So much for Indy this week. My only hope is that Dungy is trying to play coaching mind games. However I just dont see him as that type of coach.

Is it just me or do teams seem less and less willing to give accurate information regarding injuries this season? Why the change? Examples:

Delhomme - supposed to miss a couple weeks then bang, put on IR

Andre Johnson - was listed as out for 2-4 weeks... this week will be his 7th and he likely won't be back until week 11 making a total of 9 weeks

Javon Walker - supposed to play a couple weeks ago, then all of a sudden its announced he is having surgery and out another 4-6

Harrison - first he wasn't supposed to miss any time, but is held out week 5 to rest since the bye week was coming up. Then he plays week 7 but limited snaps (find out after the game he was on a play count). Then indications that he is expected to play, but also rumours that he had his knee scoped.

And the are the other ones I am familiar with as they are players I own(ed).

This is all driving me nuts. And no, the coaches don't care about my fantasy team... but guess who pays their fat salaries? The answer is me and you. This burns me. The NFL should revise their policies and start penalizing teams for playing games with the injury reports.

Man, this truly shows how crazy and unpredictable fantasy football can be sometimes. Take Harrison and Rudi Johnson, two of the most traditionally safer picks at their respective positions, and they've both been trainwrecks so far this year.

Putting my fantasy team aside, I really hope this isn't anything remotely close to a career/season threatening injury, for a very classy, one of a kind WR.

The NFL is playing games with the injury reports. Instead of a O, D, Q, P label from Wednesday forward, we get full practice, limited practice, and did not practice until Friday which in my opinion enables all of these injury shenanigans.

If Colts practice is closed to the press this week, How would Schefter know Harrison didnt practice?

and why does one report list his knee as the reason and another lists team decision?

This is a very big game for Indy.
 Because........This is a big game from a fan/media perspective, period. Yeah they're rivals and undefeated and all, but no way are the Colts going 16-0 and we all know they're cruising to the playoffs, so it really means little when you get down to it. If they lose, so what?

CBS Sportsline:

Marvin Harrison, WR INDNews: The Indianapolis Colts practiced again without eight-time Pro Bowl receiver Marvin Harrison on Thursday and may not have him against New England on Sunday. Harrison, the Colts' career receiving leader, sat out for the second straight day with a bruised left knee that has already forced him to miss two of the last three games. "If he doesn't practice (Thursday), I'd say it's doubtful he'll play Sunday," coach Tony Dungy said before the Colts' workout. "I know he's looking forward to it, and we're looking forward to it."Analysis: Dungy had said Wednesday he expected Harrison to be back on the field Thursday. That didn't happen. Harrison has seven touchdowns in his last five regular-season meetings (with at least one score in every game) against New England. Harrison's history against the Patriots is great, but it doesn't appear as though he will get to showcase it Week 9. Harrison has been playing more like a No. 2 Fantasy WR than a No. 1 this season. He is still a solid Fantasy play when healthy. Continue to track his progress leading up to Sunday, but start making plans to be without Harrison.

Then they possibly lose the tie-breaker for home field advantage with the Pats. They might not want/expect to go undefeated, but they sure would like to play the AFC championship game at their place instead of outside at Foxboro.

I agree with the injury comment. This would be a terrible way to go out. I believe he still has 2-3 good years left in him. He's Jerry Rice calibur (the only WR who managed to have decent seasons after age 35).

It does not sound good.
Agreed. For Harrison to miss a game with this significant importance strongly suggests he has a serious knee injury. No way this is a "bruised knee" as the Colts have been saying. The question now is when will he be able to return? Next week, two more weeks, three weeks, a month?

I think it must be fairly serious. But looking at his game logs, he got hurt in the Denver game. Took the next game off(Tampa). Rested up during the bye. Came back the following week against Jacksonville and was only good for 3 catches and 16yds. Took last week off(Carolina). So, during this stretch, the one game he attempted to play was the game following his bye. And he didnt do much. He wasnt doing anything at practice today. The only vids I saw of him, he wsa just walking around in shorts doing a little light catching and throwing on the sidelines. And it looked like little more than just staying busy while out on the field. I dont think he's going to end up playing, since its a long season and this is only one game, but if he plays I dont expect much. jmho.

There have been rumors he had a torn meniscus and had knee surgery during the Colts bye week (Week 6). These are just rumors but they seem to be looking pretty strong right now. If the usual rehab window for this type of surgery is 2-3 weeks it fits with Harrison basically being on the shelf the last three weeks with one minor exception. The only question is did he do any further damage by returning against the Jags and thus pushing back his possible return.Any Colts' homers heard more on these rumors about knee surgery? Just wondering.

Nobody knows anything...however I will say the Colts fan forum seems upbeat that Harrison will be able to play Sunday. They are feeding off a Dungy Quote that says Harrison could have played last week if the game was meaningful.

jmo, but I think Id keep that information logged under the 'rumor' heading. I doubt very seriously he had surgery without any public knowledge whatsoever. But I doubt even stronger he would have played against Jax if he had any kind of procedure. But he still has no wraps, braces, covers of any kind on the knee. Its either an extremely deep bone bruise or a strained ligament. Just speculation.

just passing the info I was reading, But the diehard colts fans are saying the Colts have a morning and afternoon practice. We know for sure that Harrison didnt practice the morning session and it was between the morning and afternoon practices when Dungy made that statement. Anyways, Harrison playing is a major concern to me as I would need to hit the WW if he doesnt go, but I wont stress out too much until the Friday report comes out. That is the one that really matters.

I'm definitely stating it's a rumor. But I have heard it in a few places and was just curious if anyone else was hearing something similar. I just think it's something worse than a bruise if he's basically been on the shelf for a month. Something's seriously wrong with him if he isn't expected to play this week. This game pretty much is a playoff game given the AFC title game implications. For Harrison to sit out - assuming he does - that's a pretty strong statement he has a serious injury of some kind.

I agree and I appreciate the optimistic vibes. I'm just real concerned about him as well. I traded for him this week knowing the risk but firmly believing if he was even close to healthy he'd play given the importance of this game.

Coachspeak because he doesn't want the Pats scheming against Marvelous :hophead:
I wish this was true. Odds are more likely he's seriously hurt and Dungy isn't cluing us into that.
I just traded for him in hopes that he's there for the playoff run...I think I'm pretty safe to make the playoffs without him.He was a decent buy low...I'm actually kinda hoping he just takes his time.

What did you give up? I have been offered Harrison for Selvin Young and Driver. Looking for the stretch run.

I would take this trade. Young is a non-factor at this point and Driver is reaching the end of his career. Harrison probably has a good 2-3 years left in him. He'll come back and be just fine. They will need him during the playoffs. They aren't going to just write him off for the rest of the season.

Keeper LeagueI gave: Ronnie Brown, DeShaun Foster, Chris ChambersI get: Selvin and MarvinI think Marvin will be okay for the stretch, but I won't know if this trade can win a championship for me until the Henry situation shakes out.

i would be shocked if marvin had secret surgery. i just can't believe he would have played against jax if he had surgery less than two weeks earlier.

if marvin isn't healthy enough to play this week, it doesn't neccessarily mean that he has a serious injury. he still could come back in a week or two but just can't play this week.

it is a strange situation since he did play against jax but then sat out last week. did he aggrevate the injury in that game or did he sit out last week to get as healthy as possible for the pats?

it wouldn't shock me if indy is trying to beat new england at their own game by being secretive about marvin's status. it could be harder for new england's defense to gameplan without knowing if marvin is playing or not.

unless we get some good new information, i think it's too risky to start marvin this week because i think he's much more likely not to play or be a non-factor than he is to have a big game. if he is/was healthy, i see the potential for a shootout and a monster game so if he is healthier than the colts are leading on than it would be painful to have him light it up on your bench. i'm pretty sure i'm still not playing him though. as of now......

So, if Harrison doesn't play, and the Colts lose this Sunday, does that mean that Colts fans get to trout out the injury excuse like Patriots fans did after all three losses to the Indy in '05 and '06?

yes. Maybe the Colts have given up already and this Harrison playing the second time around will give them hope when these teams meet in the playoffs.

Colts' Harrison cleared to play SundayBy Mike Chappellmike.chappell@indystar.comNovember 2, 2007Marvin Harrison has been given the go-ahead to play Sunday when the Indianapolis Colts meet the New England Patriots in the RCA Dome, but there’s no assurance the eight-time Pro Bowl receiver will suit up.Coach Tony Dungy said the team still is weighing the benefit of playing Harrison against the Patriots against the risk of him possibly aggravating his bruised left knee. Harrison was held out of this morning’s practice, missing all of the Colts’ on-field preparation for New England. He has missed two of the last three games. If Sunday’s showdown with the Patriots was a postseason game, Dungy said, “he’d definitely be playing. The fact that we’ve got eight games left and we’ve got a lot of games that we have to win, that factors into it.“We really want him to be ready coming down the stretch. If the doctors say we really have a much better chance of him being healthy down the stretch by sitting out, then we’ll sit him out. We’ll all get together and make that decision.’’
meh...guess it could be worse.

So... Rotoworld has Harrison medically cleared to play, though still listed as doubtful.

Not a Pats fan or hater, and absolutely don't believe it to be true, but wouldn't it be great if Dungy were pulling some of Belichick's Injury Report shenanigans against him? Classic. :goodposting:
