Marvin Harrison Week 9 Injury Update (1 Viewer)

I would think that this game is a harder and more important matchup than any other game they have on their schedule. NE is their competition for home-field and winning this game is just about their only possibility of securing it. Hmmm, looks like yet another GTD with Marvelous.

So, if Harrison doesn't play, and the Colts lose this Sunday, does that mean that Colts fans get to trout out the injury excuse like Patriots fans did after all three losses to the Indy in '05 and '06?
yes. Maybe the Colts have given up already and this Harrison playing the second time around will give them hope when these teams meet in the playoffs.
Better yet, maybe the Colts won't even show up to the game on Sunday, will forfeit the rest of the season and the playoffs and will lobby to move the team to the NFC so they don't ever have to face NE again in the playoffs unless its the superbowl...

A better question is: With Willie McGinest having gone to CLE, which guy is going to be responsible for the Patriots old "fake injury timeout" routine during one of the Colts drives into the Red Zone?

Harrison has been cleared to play this weekend. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean he will play.

Per Fanball:

THE NEWS

Doctors have cleared Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison to play this Sunday against the Patriots, but he still might sit out. "We really want him to be ready coming down the stretch," head coach Tony Dungy told the Indianapolis Star. "If the doctors say we really have a much better chance of him being healthy down the stretch by sitting out, then we'll sit him out. We'll all get together and make that decision.' A bruised left knee has forced Harrison to miss two of the last three games.

Our View

It was widely assumed that Marv was being "saved" for this week's "game of the century" against Indy, however, that assumption is fading fast. Stay tuned and be prepared to sit Harrison yet again.

Full link shows that it isn't that promising
Marvin Harrison has been given the go-ahead to play Sunday when the Indianapolis Colts meet the New England Patriots in the RCA Dome, but there’s no assurance the eight-time Pro Bowl receiver will suit up.

Coach Tony Dungy said the team still is weighing the benefit of playing Harrison against the Patriots against the risk of him possibly aggravating his bruised left knee. Harrison was held out of this morning’s practice, missing all of the Colts’ on-field preparation for New England. He has missed two of the last three games.

If Sunday’s showdown with the Patriots was a postseason game, Dungy said, “he’d definitely be playing. The fact that we’ve got eight games left and we’ve got a lot of games that we have to win, that factors into it.

“We really want him to be ready coming down the stretch. If the doctors say we really have a much better chance of him being healthy down the stretch by sitting out, then we’ll sit him out. We’ll all get together and make that decision.’’

Offensive tackle Tony Ugoh (neck) did not practice today. His status, along with that of linebackers Freddy Keiaho (ear) and Tyjuan Hagler (neck) might not be determined until Sunday.
If Ugoh doesn't play, too, that is really bad news for the Colts. Ugoh's gotten a bad rap on this board, but he's WAY better than Charlie Johnson at LT.

Vrabel, Bruschi, Colvin - the list of savvy, integrity-less players on the Patriots ends at 53.

I think Harrison is the type of player that if he is cleared to play, he will play. Hearing this news, I would be shocked if Harrison doesnt play.

He's been cleared to play but is expected to be listed as doubtful. When Dungy falls prey to the evils of manipulating the league's injury report you know it has become a joke.

Given the importance of the game one would think Harrison will play if he's physically able to - which the reports are telling us he is. But if he's doubtful one would think there's no way Harrison will play.

I really love this game sometimes.

Not when he will be a GTD in the late game. :goodposting:

More on this. Maybe we are seeing the end of Marvin Harrison. From RotoWorld:

ESPN's Ed Werder reports Marvin Harrison's knee pain could persist for the rest of the season, and possibly for the rest of his career.

Specialists reportedly informed Harrison of the news, but don't see surgery as a viable option because any procedure would cost him six months of rehab. There also would be no guarantee of success. Harrison has been medically cleared to play Sunday, but didn't practice all week and is listed as questionable. It's possible the Colts will limit his action until the playoffs. Rookie Anthony Gonzalez should be picked up in all formats.

Thank god that Harrison owner didnt take Henry/Selvin/Gates for Harrison/Lynch two weeks ago, phew. But this is bad news considering what a class act Harrison is, I think he will be back at some point.

Ed Werder was just on NFL Live and talked about Harrison but didnt mention a thing about knee pain. Sounded like he thinks Marvin will play.

a week and a half ago traded fwp and crayton for barber and harrison because i was in desperate need of wr help for last week and harrison didnt play and now this news. i am looking at 2-7 after this week after winning the league last year and losing in the finals two years ago. how the mighty have fallen.

####### redraft leagues :lmao:

btw i was offered crayton back for harrison from the owner but harrison was the reason i made the trade, so without parker back also there is no point, i guess.

Sounds like Marvin is trying to talk Dungy into letting him play:

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison has been told his knee pain is likely to persist through the remainder of the season and perhaps for the rest of his career, a source said Friday.

Marvin Harrison

Harrison

Specialists who have examined Harrison do not view surgery as a viable option because there is no guarantee of success and would require six months of rehabilitation.

Colts coach Tony Dungy said Harrison has been medically cleared to play Sunday against New England. Harrison is urging the coaches to let him do just that.

But Dungy wants to make the best decision for the whole season, not just one midseason game.

Harrison is officially listed as questionable for the game.

Harrison, in his 12th NFL season, did not play last week against Carolina. He also missed Indianapolis' Week 5 game against Tampa Bay.

He has 20 catches for 247 yards this season for the Colts.

Colts are denying Werder's report. I think the best way for them to deny it is for Harrison to catch 10 passes for 200 yards and 3 TDs on Sunday. :lmao:

From RotoWorld:

The Colts issued a statement concerning Ed Werder of ESPN's report about Marvin Harrison's knee.

"Regarding a published report today about a lingering knee injury for wide receiver Marvin Harrison, the Indianapolis Colts have received no medical opinion that comes close to validating the report," the statement reads. "The club will have no further comment on this matter." Werder has gotten things like this wrong before, but Harrison's status for Week 9 remains in serious doubt.

gotta love espn

Werder is also reporting that if Harrison does play Sunday he won't play every offensive snap. He'll be replaced by Anthony Gonzalez although Manning was quoted as saying the team will devise more ways to get the ball to Reggie Wayne when Harrison is off the field.

Dungy quotes from RotoWorld:

Colts coach Tony Dungy indicated Friday that with respect to Marvin Harrison's knee, the team is treating Sunday's bout with New England like any other regular season game. Harrison is listed as questionable.

"Our dilemma is that the doctors thought if he (Harrison) plays, he could have continued issues with it," Dungy said. "If we give him another week off, he probably would not have the same issues down the stretch. It will have to be a decision that's best for the season and not just best for this game."."

which really means He wants to throw to Clark.

If he's out, Colts fans will now have their excuse for this bloodbath.
I won't make that excuse if that happens. Now, if Harrison AND Ugoh are out, that's a little different. Ugoh >>> Charlie Johnson at LT - and I'd be shocked if the Colts win on Sunday with both of them out. Shocked. However, the fact that you're predicting a blowout gives me hope. It was ugly two weeks ago - wasn't it?

Keep the excuses out of the outcome. Regardless, Pat's win by double digits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more champagne for the 72 Fins !!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible..just possible that he has a bruised knee and the pain hasn't subsided enough yet. These are human beings we are talking about...not super heros....

I think he will play as soon as he is able too. I think we are over-analyzing and trying to read too much between the lines.

(Take it from someone that ruptured his ACL, tore his LCL, tore his meniscus and broke his leg all at the same time)

That had to feel good.

The Indianapolis Star expects the Colts to sit Marvin Harrison (questionable, knee) in Week 9.

Tony Dungy indicated Friday that he's treating Sunday's matchup with New England like any other regular season game, and that doctors have informed him that if Marvin sits out, he'll have a better chance of being effective long term. Look for rookie Anthony Gonzalez to take Harrison's place at flanker.

Sitting is probably the smart move. Obviously Marvin wants to play; but if it's better for the rest of the season that he rests it, he should rest it.It seems like this is going to linger, and the lack of a diagnosis/timeline is killing Marvin owners who drafted him early.

So...either:1) Werder is making up the chronic aspect of Harrison's injury or his source is wrong.2) The Colts are being tight lipped about a potential long-term issue for Harrison.Despite Harrison's greatness as a receiver he has never been one to seek contact. In fact, I've seen him run out of bounds when he could have easily scored to avoid even minimal contact. I wonder if what I've seen is Harrison's attempt to secure longevity in the game, or if he has problems with pain. I could see this being a rather significant issue going forward.
