Mason Foster (1 Viewer)

Bucs SLB Quincy Black missed several tackles in the first half of Sunday's win over the Vikings, and coach Raheem Morris says it was due to an ankle injury.Morris quickly benched Black and increased MLB Mason Foster's role, allowing the rookie to play in the nickel and dime defenses. Foster proceeded to rack up 10 tackles (7 solo), a sack, and a forced fumble. The extent of Black's injury is not known, but it's a good sign that he was in the locker room after the game talking to reporters. He's probably just day to day.

As a Quincy Black owner who had to start him, I'm curious to know what happened as well.

With gimpy Black benched, Foster steps upIf LB Quincy Black didn’t look like himself in the first half, it’s because he wasn’t.Coach Raheem Morris said he benched Black after discovering he had an ankle injury that presumably played a role in Black’s several missed tackles. Not that Black used it as a defense.“That’s not my thing,” he said. “If I’m out there, I’m out there. I don’t make excuses. That’s why when I don’t make plays, guys are surprised.”Black’s loss meant rookie Mason Foster, who has been playing only in the base defense, would be asked to also play in the nickel defense in passing situations. That’s a situation he has little experience with, one that requires him to get downfield in coverage. He had a costly pass-interference against WR Percy Harvin in the fourth quarter, an infraction that moved the ball 23 yards and led to a field goal. But the day proved a learning experience for the kid, who finished with a team-high 10 tackles and continued to stand out despite his inexperience.“I’m trying to erase all the mistakes but I know that if I do mess up, I can play as hard and as fast as I can,” Foster said. “We have great people around. The veterans and everybody else played great around me, and I play off of them.”Morris sent Foster on a blitz in the first half that resulted in Foster’s first sack – against Donovan McNabb no less – making it a day he’ll always remember.“It was a blitz and I came (through) free,” Foster said. “I think it was supposed to be a bootleg but one of our ends came free and forced (McNabb) back inside. I was just running to the ball. My first sack in the NFL. It felt great. Man, I’m excited.”
http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/content/gimpy-black-benched-foster-stepsIt sounds to me like he's probably not a permanent option in subpackages, at least not yet. But one to watch, I'm anxious to hear the FBG expert takes this week...

With Foster now locked in as a 3 down linebacker, and both Quincy Black and Geno Hayes apparently healthy enough to play this week, I'm wondering who will be Tampa's 2nd 3 down linebacker (Black or Hayes). Anyone have any insight?

http://rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6601/mason-fosterThe severity of Foster's injury isn't known. He was able to at least practice on a limited basis Thursday. SLB Quincy Black (ankle) is banged up as well. (fwiw Yahoo is stating that Mason didnt practice)btw this is all news too me, sorry if its been posted/addressed..
Does Dekoda Watson get more playing time since he has been playing well according to his coaches comments and was 2nd on his team in tackles against SF?

On the 13th, Mason Foster is actually here, he's just not participating in the workout. Rest of team in pads. Foster in a tee-shirt and shorts. per TB Twitter

Heres a morning link per Twitter http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football/bucs/article1196734.ece?source=rss_teams_Tampa_Bay_Buccaneers&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

I just found this on Twitter now (if hes limited or what not I dunno) But he is currently at practice (fwiw McCoy is not at practice) I really cant provide anymore info, but I did see Roto Info TB state that Foster is practicing today (this tweet is 10 mins after TB tweet of being at practice)

I think we may be good to go, but dont quote me on that!

Well as soon as he became an every down MIKE he started putting up garbage numbers. He became a starter in week 4... Week 4 : 3 solo 1 ast Week 5 : 2 solo 1 ast 1 FF Week 6 : 1 solo 2 ast

These numbers suck!!!!!
