Mayo Injured (1 Viewer)

Jerod Mayo-LB-Patriots Sep. 14 - 7:42 pm et

Jerod Mayo left Monday night's game and was taken to the locker room in the first quarter against the Bills with an apparent right knee injury.

Fellow linebacker Gary Guyton stepped on Mayo's leg during a long run by Bills' running back Fred Jackson. His return is questionable for the rest of the game.

thats all i got...

yeah...I was rolling with Mayo and Beason....... and got punked with the Ram's bull#### of JACKSON JACKSON JACKSON come get him we are going to run him and throw to him all day long......phfftttt lol

I see its posted twice already but I think it also deserves to be here with these sad stories. Posluszny to the locker room for X-RAYS

Rotoworld was reporting initial belief of the Pats med staff is that the knee injury is not as bad as Brady's last year.

"According to beat writer Chris Gasper, the "initial belief" is that Jerod Mayo's right knee injury is not as serious as Tom Brady's torn ACL of a year ago.

There is no official word yet on the extent of Mayo's injury. He left Monday night's win in the first quarter and didn't return. If he's out for an extended period of time, it's a huge blow to the Patriots' defense as Mayo is one of the better young inside linebackers in the game. Gary Guyton stepped in for Mayo."Link

not as serious as brady's. that's ambiguous.belechick also said he didn't believe it was 'season-ending.'

something smells. oh wait, that's just what you get out of the patriots.

I just want him out for one week... the game against the Jets! :sadbanana:

MCL's can vary widely in how long it takes a player to return. I don't think we'll know about Mayo for sure until he actually plays again. I also lost Ulacher in that same league, and Poz an Mayo in another. Also had Beason.... and T Gooden. Injuries are killing me this year. I know no one cares.... but lamenting lessens the pain.

I think.

Well I am packing it up for the season... :lmao:
looks like your team is, too.psPatriots defensive snapsThomas leads way on defenseSeptember 16, 2009, 9:08 AMBy: Mike ReissA look at the snaps played by Patriots defenders in Monday's win over the Bills, and how the team adjusted after linebacker Jerod Mayo left the game with a right knee injury (snaps are not official tallies, as they are charted independently in the press box, so there is a small margin for error):LB Adalius Thomas -- 54 of 54 snapsCB Leigh Bodden -- 53 of 54LB Gary Guyton -- 52 of 54S Brandon Meriweather -- 52 of 54DL Vince Wilfork -- 43 of 54DL Ty Warren -- 42 of 54DL Jarvis Green -- 39 of 54DE Derrick Burgess -- 38 of 54S James Sanders -- 38 of 54CB Shawn Springs -- 38 of 54DE/OLB Tully Banta-Cain -- 31 of 54CB Jonathan Wilhite -- 25 of 54CB Darius Butler -- 18 of 54S Brandon McGowan -- 18 of 54DL Mike Wright -- 18 of 54OLB Pierre Woods -- 15 of 54LB Jerod Mayo -- 9 of 54LB Rob Ninkovich -- 5 of 54(Note: The Bills ran 48 official plays. Penalties which were not official plays were added to the snaps to account for the 54-snap total.)ANALYSIS: The Patriots opened the game playing the 3-4 alignment on seven of the first nine snaps. When starting inside linebacker Jerod Mayo left with injury, the team switched exclusively to a four-man line the rest of the game. ... Second-year linebacker Gary Guyton had his role most dramatically altered by Mayo's injury. Guyton initially was subbed out in the team's sub package, but became a full-time player after Mayo left the game. ... Rookies Pat Chung (safety) and Ron Brace (defensive line) dressed but did not see action on defense, while rookie Darius Butler was fourth on the cornerback depth chart, seeing time in both sub packages and the base defense. Butler was on the field late in the fourth quarter, which is a strong reflection of how he is viewed by the coaching staff. ... Brandon McGowan trumped Chung as the third safety. ... OLB/DE Tully Banta-Cain has been a surprise contributor, leaping over Pierre Woods on the depth chart.

Looked like a high ankle mechanism until Mayo couldn't get off the field. Would've guessed the MCL after hearing Belichick say "knee" so it's good to get that confirmed. Expect at least a month on this one.

Reiss' information above is dead-on as usual. The Pats were already working the 4-3 into their plans and the depth at DL and LB will almost certainly make them a 4-3 team if they hold their roster as-is, with the potential for some funky nickel packages to get as many pass rushers on the field to cover for the relatively shaky secondary.

Guyton looks to be huge here, especially since it's Wednesday and there's been no sign of an impending Seau signing to hold them over until Mayo returns. That could still come next week, depending on how quick Mayo's recovery seems to be progressing.

Though he won't necessarily be equally Mayo's expected output, Guyton is an excellent pickup.

Bumping for any intel nuggets from Mr. Yudkin...
I generally don't go into the IDP forum, well, pretty much ever. That being said, most of the available info is in the thread in the Shark Pool. Long story short, some folks are saying standard Level 3 tear = 6-8 weeks. Not everyone is on board with that diagnosis, as some people may have heard a Level 2 partial tear which might mean only 3-4 weeks. From the people I heard talk about it, each player will recover and heal at a different pace, so no one really has a firm answer right now.Guyton is expected to fill the void in Mayo's absence if the defense can be productive in the middle. They may alter some of the defensive sets more without Mayo, but in terms of who would stand to benefit hte most IDP wise it should be Guyton.

Meriweather moved WAY up in the official forward rankings.

Is this due mostly to the Mayo injury?

I was at the game and also have Guyton. I wasn't impressed with him at all after Mayo went down. He was hardly around the ball and looked lost out there IMO. I actually thought Pierre Woods looked better than Guyton ( I realize one was OLB and the other was ILB). I wouldn't expect anywhere near Mayo's #'s from Guyton.

I think that much of that was because Guyton was put in a position to do many things that he hadn't really had the chance to practice. I will judge him more on what he does this week and next. He's a young guy, and though he doesn't have Mayo's talent, I think with a week or two to practice and get his mind in the right place he will be fine.
