C'mon. We had our hopes when we drafted him, but guys like us drafted him to pay off BIG ***in a couple years***. You had to be prepared to sit on him if you drafted him or you would have drafted K.Smith or Forte. As of now I am kicking myself for taking him with the 1.03 rookie pick. If Parker is back and possibly Moore I think he has little value next season.
Parker will be the #1 back in Pittsburgh in 2009 unless he is injured. In looking at Willie Parker's age - around 28-29 (next season).....Does anyone think that Mendenhall will emerge as the lead RB in Pittsburgh in 2009 - or do people out there think it will take another year before we see Mendenhall make an impact?
Forte was the next guy that was drafted followed by Smith. I was hoping for the 5-10 this season and then him taking over next season but his injury delayed everything by 1 season at least. I just hope that not drafting Forte was not a big mistake in 2 years. I bought K Smith to have 2 rooks in this draft.C'mon. For a year maybe 2. He was drafted as a replacementWell, I look at it from this direction - Mendenhall was brought in to complement Parker, not replace him.
If M'hall gets no better than what we saw out of him so far. I'll admit, I was unimpressed but many people that watched spring ball said he was in the top tier of atheletes on the field (Holmes #1, Timmons & Harrison in the discussion). RB is supposed to be an "instant transition" according to a lot of people in here, but in reality, RB is one of the easiest positions to transition to the pros but there is definately a learning curve for that position too. It's unrealistic to think that he won't improve over time, and I would say that he looks a lot more like a future bell-cow than Parker did in the beginning of his career. Parker's contract, and age are a near-sure-fire-bet to not get another large contract from Pittsburgh, let alone the injuries over last year & this. If he doesn't take a paycut on his next contract, he won't stay in Pittsburgh, and it will be M'hall in a RBBC or better. I'm betting on the better.Edit to clarify - I'm speaking of 2010 and beyond. I agree that he's a 5 touch/game guy next year, maybe more if he shows improvement or Parker is injured. Moore is too good in the 3rd down role to give M'hall many looks there.RBBC for the forseeable future.
FWP was the feature back last year, has been the feature back when healthy this year, and will be the feature back next year unless he is injured.duece2626 said:RBBC for the forseeable future.
Even Perry got a chance eventually.Mendenhall will eventually be given an opportunity to contribute. I wouldn't expect startable numbers in 2010 though. His main hope is to take over for FWP when he leaves after next season. The Moz said:He gets Chris Perry'd I doubt he has any impact at all.
The way I see it as well. This will not be much of an RBBC next season. Mendenhall does not compliment Parker as a previous poster mentioned. If anything, MeMo will still see passing down work next season. Mendenhall will have to wait until 2010 to be the feature back, barring an injury to Parker. I think a healthy Mendenhall would get 1st and 2nd downs, with Moore seeing passing downs if Parker was injured.Even Perry got a chance eventually.Mendenhall will eventually be given an opportunity to contribute.
