According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Shawne Merriman is "not on solid footing with the Chargers" and remains on the trade block with the NFL's October 19 deadline approaching.The Union-Trib also confirms that there's been "little to no activity," and why would there be? Beat writer Kevin Acee wouldn't even rule out Merriman being cut. As terribly thin as the Lions are at LB, I wouldn't be shocked to see if them try and resuscitate his career. He was a pick that Millen passed on in favor of (you guessed it) WR Mike Williams (he also passed on Demarcus Ware there) and as fans, we were up in arms. That draft is when we knew for absolutely certain that we had a rudderless ship on our hands.

He doesn't have to be a speed rusher for them. If he can stuff a hole and play side line to side line, that's what we need the most right now.
