Miami and New England RB Distribution (1 Viewer)

Wondering what we should expect for week one distribution? What's the split with Ricky and Ronnie and how about in New England between Maroney, Morris and Jordan? Here's my guess.

R.Williams 16 carries + 4 catches

Ronnie Brown 12 carries + 3 catches

Maroney 14 carries + 1 catch

Morris 7 carries + 1 catch

Jordan 5 carries + 4 catches (in Faulk role)

What do the sharks think?

I think you gave too many catches to Ricky and Jordan, and I'd shift a couple of those to Brown and Maroney, respectively. Otherwise that looks about like what I'd expect. If anything, the Miami total carries may be low because I think that's a team that's going to play Bill Ball - control the clock, play defense, keep the game short and close, and give yourself to win the game in last part of the 4th quarter. I could easily envision 35+ total carries between those two guys, with Ricky having a few more than Ronnie, but Ronnie getting more receptions.

So, for those of you in the Mia "know." Is Ricky going to see more touches than Brown this week?

Despite what Yudkin predicts, wouldn't it be interesting if Jordan touches the ball more than Maroney today....
Well, I got some things right. I said 50/50 pass to run split. 29 passes to 28 runs. Not sure how Brady getting hurt changed that.No one got the ball a ton today, certainly not Jordan (2 rushes, 0 receptions). THey went more with MOrris out of the backfield (5 catches).

I really do not understand the RB distribution for Mia. Why are they so in love with Ricky out there? I know you couldnt see a big difference between the two, but Brown appeared to me to be the better back. Brown has put up good numbers when healthy, just dont get it. I think Brown is a great pickup right now, but that coaching staff seems to be Ditka in love with Ricky????

no way they are looking at Ricky as the starter any more. Sparano said he expects it to remain kinda even but I don't see how it can when looking at the numbers for each back

Ricky: 10 carries for 24 yards, 2.4 ypc, 4 rec for 15 yards, 3.8 ypr

Brown: 6 carries for 23 yards, 3.8 ypc, 3 rec for 28 yards, 9.3 ypr

First off, neither back saw many carries, which makes little sense for this team. Second, Ronnie, while not exactly a world-beater, did more with his touches than Ricky did. I can't see Ronnie not seeing more looks than Ricky next week. Committees work when each back gives you something different. These backs essentially bring the same thing, except one is younger, faster, and doing more for them than the other.

I have to agree. I didn't get to watch Ricky much this preseason, but I saw nothing in that first game to justify the hype. Ronnie's not back to his old self yet, but he still outshone Ricky, who looked big and slow to me.

Just talked to a buddy of mine who is a Dolphin fanatic. There is no link just a fan's perspective, but he says Parcells talks about only one guy on the team, and only one guy and thats RIcky WIlliams. Apparently he does have Ditka love for him. Thats sucks.

Looks like Miami didn't do enough to improve their OLine, which makes sense because the receivers don't need much time to run as far as Chad can throw.

From Tony's press conference:

Why Ricky and Ronnie didn’t carry the ball more than 16 times combined (and why Pennington threw 43 times): “It really wasn’t a strategy. What happened in the game is we got into one of those deals where we felt like at that time we needed to throw the ball and open the offense up a little bit to get some things going. … If you go back and watch the tape, you’ll see that that happened.

“Ronnie and Ricky were in the game in some of those situations, they just weren’t getting the ball handed to them. Ricky makes a nice catch on a wheel route on a sideline, Ronnie catches a ball coming out of the backfield. They can get touches a lot of ways.

“I don’t really think there’s gonna be a scenario where one of them gets 30 carries and the other guy gets five. … I think it’s gonna be kinda even as we get on in this thing.”

See Dallas, circa 2004-07.

Someone please explain this to me. Of all the hard-### coaches (General Mangers) in the NFL Parcells seems to be one that would be the least likely to "like" Ricky Williams will all the problems he had in the past.

This may be the point that Parcells & Co. are trying to make, no? Ricky by all accounts has worked very hard, so this may be their way of reinforcing a new work ethic.
