Per Rotoworld...

The Associated Press reports Louisville RB Michael Bush (broken leg) took part in his first pre-draft workout earlier this week.

He got a thumbs-up from surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who called Bush "99 percent healed" and his progress "remarkable." The blue-chip back underwent a second operation on his injured leg roughly a month ago.

Bush visit

The Patriots are hosting Louisville RB Michael Bush on a pre-draft visit today at Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots' scheduled visit with Bush was reported here a few weeks ago, and we're revisiting it to update Bush's recovery from a broken leg suffered in the 2006 season opener. Bush had a titanium rod inserted into the leg after the break, and had a second surgery earlier this year so a larger rod could be inserted.

As for his current status, Bush's agent, Todd France, sent a DVD to all 32 NFL clubs this week. The DVD includes fresh video of Bush following his second surgery, and shows him running 100 yards, box jumping, jumping rope and squatting 225 pounds, among other things.

"We wanted to be proactive," France said of sending the DVD to all teams. "I think there might be an image in some people's minds that he didn't work out at the combine or the pro day, and had a second surgery, and we were concerned that the perception might become reality. It was our version of a medical re-check, showing teams 'here is where he is.' We've gotten great feedback from teams who have seen the tape and are surprised at how far along he is."

The Patriots are one of a handful of teams meeting with Bush before the draft. Bush was projected to be one of the top backs in the draft before breaking his leg, and teams are likely double-checking their medical records on him before stacking their final draft board.

Is that the first time we've ever heard James Andrews deliver good news about someone's health? Usually the best we get when he examines someone is the sigh of relief.

Sometimes I think he's not even a real person. He's just some sort of Wizard of Oz for the sports medicine world.

For reference, Andrews was the Doc who gave Brees' shoulder the "A-OK" last year.

A 40 time before the draft, could boost his stock, but if he doesn't run, the doctor statement could actually lower his value.

My thoughts exactly. Please delete this thread mods... I'm admittedly a homer, but the kid is the real deal. I'd draft him and wait a year even if he wasn't healthy. This type of injury heals completely.

I think you might see something like you saw with Willis MaGahee. He got to sit a full year before trying to come back too early and doing more damage. I think Bush could be a beast in the NFL.

If he is 99% he will run a 40. This could be huge for his draft stock. I would want to see that and a few other things before I would bump him up too much.

I am not so sure with his somewhat recent second surgery. I take this to mean the bone is 99% healed now, but I am sure he has not been able to work out properly. The second surgery probably kept him from weight bearing on the leg for atleast a few more weeks. When was the last time he actually ran (probably when he got hurt - 8+ months ago).
