Micheal Irvin's jealousy of Randy Moss (1 Viewer)

I know Michael Irvin likes to think of himself as a gamebreaker, but I am starting to think Irvin is getting pretty insecure about his minimal athletic abilitty relative to the game breakers of today.

It seems Michael Irvin takes a pot shot at Randy Moss every chance he gets.

Your first mistake is not hitting the mute button everytime Irvin speaks. That is what I do. Seriously....I do hit mute...I can't stand to listen to his blathering. I almost went with the fantasy football team name - "PLEASE SHOOT MICHAEL IRVIN" this year.

Can't believe I'm saying this as I can't stand Irvin, but I'd have taken him as a more complete receiver and teammate over Randy Moss anyday. Then again playing on one of the best teams of all time tends to reduce his potential for being a cancer.

Totally agree.Irvin can be tough to take as a analyst but he is probably a top 15-20 WR of all time. And even if you don't think he is, his team mates barely had a bad thing to say about him, to my knowledge. Throw in the rings and pro-bowls and I don't think he needs to be jealous of any talent Moss has or anything Moss has accomplished. As a Giant fan, I've always hated the guy. But, you can't really deny the type of player and team mate he was.

I bolded the part that I think Irvin has a problem with. I suspect he keeps an account of how other perceive him and Irvin's perception is people still rank Randy Moss much higher than Michael Irvin, and it bothers him. There is not doubt that Irvin is a better all-around wide receiver, but Randy Moss is a far superior offensive weapon.

In the right hands, Moss is more a gambreaker than Irvin could hope to be - pure physical gifts are on Moss' side. Much taller and faster than Irvin. Moss worked in that playground offense of "you run fast, I throw far" in Minnesota, but he's a bit limited in other places. I think Irvin could have helped any team he was on. I cant say that about Moss. I won't say its fact as Irvin could very well have caused Moss/Keyshawn type problems on other teams. Winning, having a coach that can deal with it, and a team full of leaders tends to take the acidic edge off guys like that.

one of the best teams of all time
You will (and should) get mocked for that.
Believe me, I hate the Cowboys so much that it pained me to refer to them as "one of the best teams" of all time, but its pretty tough to argue that team wouldnt have held its own and succeeded in any era.
I agree; and to clarify my original post was to buster c.
Understood ya perfectly. Just wanted to keep it all in one place.

Fair enough and similar to what I was saying. But even Jerry Rice's contributions to a team was limited by what the quarterback could do. Randy Moss was rare in that he was never limited by a quarterback. His physical ability was so superior even bad\average quarterbacks could put up perfect quarterback ratings with Randy Moss on the team.

Moss is one of the most overrated WR in the NFL IMO....He gets credit as as the best WR in the NFL even after playing like crap. It isn't fair the way better WR like Torry Holt (Yes I'm biased so what). Torry Holt's accomplished are better then TO, Randy Moss, #85, ect....and yet he still doesn't get the credit he should get. Sometimes I wish Holt would act like a #######, or do some TD stuff so he can get noticed as one of the best in the NFL. A guy like Steve Smith does something for 1 season and gets to be known as the best in the NFL.....If Torry would have played all 16 games last season he would have had better stats then Smith...

How can I discuss Moss last night and last year before the injury without coming off like a total jerk-wad here?

:-) That is why I used the past-tense. Moss' game-breaking ability was directly related to his physical gifts. Take them away and he is not nearly the same player; much like if we took away 8 inches and 100 pounds from Shaq.

So you are saying Moss is done?

I dont necessarily agree. Moss is too devisive to bring a team together and make those around him better. Unlike TO, he isnt out there laying guys out blocking, isnt making the tough catches, isnt coming over the middle, isnt running every route, and isnt a guy that a young QB can depend on play in and play out. Guys like Holt, TO and Smith are guys you can lean on. I'm down to thinking Moss is a home-run guy and not much else.
