I voted for the Braves also, although my vote may be skewed by some hopeful homerism. Nonetheless, I like what the Braves have put together and I think they have a solid chance to contend in the NL East. Starting with the sweep of the Phillies at the beginning of July, the Braves have gone 14-6 in the month of July. The Braves have been scoring runs more consistently with McLouth and Prado at the top of the lineup, and Escobar has been on fire since being dropped lower in the order. I think their offense has improved significantly since the start of the season. I kind of doubt that the Braves trade Vazquez for a bat unless they are able to get a very strong hitter in return, especially considering the thin market for starting pitchers right now. I keep hoping that they will trade for someone like Josh Willingham, a solid hitter with a reasonable contract who could be had without giving up too much. Even without adding another bat, I think the Braves offense has improved drastically and could allow them to contend with the help of their pitching staff. In a head-to-head series, I like the Braves better than the Phillies right now based on the Braves vast advantage in starting pitching. The Braves' offense needs to stay hot in order to have any chance of closing the gap.No love for the Braves? Their rotation is extremely good and they are about to get Hudson back. I hear they are trying to trade Vazquez for a bat...not sure if that will work, but still...I think they have a good team.

Yeah, Halladay would certainly make it much tougher on the Braves, especially if they don't have to give up J.A. The Braves are 14-6 in the month of July which is good. Only problem, the Phils are 14-4 in July.EDIT: The Braves are 14-7 after today's loss. They only lost 1.5 games this month to the Phils.derek245583 said:If the Phils get Halladay though it may be lights out.Buckfast 1 said:I voted for the Braves also, although my vote may be skewed by some hopeful homerism. Are you saying that the NL is JV compared to the AL?Bit tighter of races here in the JV League, especially the Central
That's true. The Braves are definitely going to have to stay hot and the Phillies are going to have to cool down for any closing of the gap. That said, the Braves are 7-2 against the Phillies head-to-head this year, having swept them a few weeks ago. There are 9 remaining Braves-Phillies games, and 6 of them are at Turner Field. Most people, as evidenced by this poll, seem to think that the Phillies will run away with the division. I'm saying that the Braves have a chance to give the Phillies a run down the stretch. The Braves are 14-6 in the month of July which is good. The poll results provide no evidence that people think Philly will run away with the division. The only evidence it provides is that people think Philly will win the division, be it by 1 game, 10 games or 100 games. That's true. Strange point to argue, but I think that the poll does provide evidence that most people think that the Phillies will run away with the division. When the results so overwhelmingly favor one team that suggests that most people don't think the division is going be very close. I was also basing my statement on some of the commentary I've heard on ESPN sports radio over the last week. I can't remember which baseball analyst they were interviewing at the time, but he specifically said that the Phillies would "run away with the NL East." It's certainly possible that the Phillies will win the division easily, but I just think it's too early to count out the Braves, considering their offensive resurgence (scoring 2 more runs per game with Prado starting at 2B) and continued pitching excellence.Snotbubbles said:The poll results provide no evidence that people think Philly will run away with the division.
