Midwest vacation destinations (1 Viewer)

You did it!!! Any details on why you chose it and do you need suggestions
we wanted beach, to be close'ish to Michigan Adventure and hoped to duck in to Grand Rapids & South Haven. girl my wife works with is from MI and vacationed in Holland as a kid. said it was cool for what we wanted.

looks like a nice little town with some surprisingly good looking food options. New Holland Brewing looks nice. definitely going to stop there... and for sure Founders.

really, i just want to get the hell away from here for a few days. really looking forward to it

we're going to Holland MI
I work in Holland.  Great town.

Zeeland (twin town with no discernible border between them) has some good food also.

Get Captain Sundae - their Tommy Turtle is one of the best ice cream thingies there is.

Holland is very nice. A buddy of mine goes there every summer with his wife and now with his wife + daughter. New Holland is nice and is the most family friendly brewery I have ever been to. Founders is not so family friendly but I often see couples there with their kids so it's normal. If you have a room with a kitchen and are so inclined to cook, Holland has an exceptional farmers market.

What are your dates?  I haven't previously commented in here because I didn't have any ideas that others hadn't already come up with, but I'm kind of emotionally invested in this.
Seriously figured you were coming into say you own a house there that he could use.

i actually have family in Paw Paw :excited:
Ever fish PawPaw lake in Coloma? I lived in Coloma during my elementary school years. Snow mobiles on the lake too during the winter.

Holland is going to be a good location for you. You are in easy driving distance to GR and the amusement park. Lots of beautiful beach in that area. Have a blast!!

only ever been to Coloma once. we stopped and took pictures at Ship Rock. but that's in Wisconsin

been years since i've been to Paw Paw. we definitely went out on a pontoon boat somewhere but no idea what lake.

didn't want to start a whole new thread, sorry for the vering out of the lane of this thread.

@mr. furley  Heading to green bay to take in a packers practice.  Staying at a waterpark hotel.  We have done this before and will probably hit Bay Beach with my 12 and 10 yr old boys.  Looking for some other options for activities and food.

Is the railroad museum any good?  Maybe should spring for the lambeau tour?

Kroll's is on the list of possibilities.  Any other Bar and Grill, pizza, or brew pub restraurants?

Thanks

the only water park hotel i can think of is near Lambeau and very popular. great park in there. kids will love it. my 8 and 10 year old kids think it's the greatest thing ever.

Railroad museum is cool.... if you are in to trains or history. there is some memorabilia in the building but it's mostly just train cars. interesting but nothing i'd go out of my way for unless you're a hobbyist. (it's actually very near my office  :oldunsure: )

Definitely do the Lambeau tour + Hall of Fame. if you're a Packers fan and this if your first time, it's a must.

Kroll's is OK. it's more nostalgia and proximity to the stadium that draws people these days. burgers are fine, food is expensive relative to comparable options. right across from the stadium Hinterland is fantastic. a little pricey if you're bringing kids ($25+ plate) but great food + good beer.

Sammy's pizza is right on Oneida a bit south of Lambeau. i love their pizza. it's usually pretty busy but worth it. there's another joint not far from Lambeau called Heartland pizza that's very good. a bit slow for no real reason, but good pizza.

also near Lambeau, The Distillery, Stadium View and Anduzzi's are popular. each are sports bars but Stadium View and Anduzzi's have rooftop decks and good bar food. There's also Texas Joe's for good ribs that's nearby.

for breakfast i would recommend Oak Street Cafe in De Pere which is probably a 10 minute drive from your hotel.

downtown Hagermeister Park is popular. good pub grub + lots of beer options + big deck/riverwalk area. on a nice day, it's a great place to be. Titletown and Copper State are brewpubs downtown that are across the river from Hagermeister. both good. Titletown being more relaxed. it's in an old train depot and has retained the history. Copper state is more "upscale" somewhat. less interesting but still fine.

in that same little are is The Cannery. good food. new(ish) place. more of a modern rustic (if that's a thing) feel.

if you want upscale restaurants, there are a fair number i'd recommend.

regarding Bay Beach, it's great. $0.25 tickets for a ride. most rides are 50 cents or $1. it's not Six Flags but the city has really done a lot to make it more friendly for older kids. they won't be bored. if they do get bored, there's Kastle Karts across the street for go-kart racing, mini-golf, batting cages... or there's the Wildlife Sanctuary if you wanted to go on a bit of a nature hike. you might to confirm hours for Bay Beach as they cut back once the kids are back in school.

we have a college summer league baseball team here but it looks like their season wraps this weekend.

if you come after September, there's a junior league hockey team here that's popular. tickets are cheap, beer is cheap, games are fun. the league has produced NHL players and coaches. would definitely recommend taking in a Green Bay Gamblers game, if possible.

depending on your interests, i have more recommendations.

eta: there's also the developing Titletown district.. which is across the street from Lambeau & that shares the grounds with Hinterland.

there's a small park for little kids, a 100 yard football field, a place to test your 40 yard dash time, there's a small cafe, a sledding hill, some outdoor bar games (horseshoes, cornhole, etc.). it's kind of nice for now. supposed to be developing in to a full fledged entertainment/shopping district with time.

Furley, a kid who help coach my son's summer hockey program plays for the Gamblers, I am hoping my son and I can get up there to see him play.

 let me know if you do. they're fun games. it's a nice venue. not a bad seat in the place and you can more or less sit right up close for cheap.
