Mike Bell starting at RB

Rookie passes Tatum Bell, Dayne on depth chart

By Bill Williamson

Denver Post Staff Writer

Ron Dayne fell Monday to No. 3 at running back on the Broncos' depth chart. (Post file)

In a stunning development, Broncos undrafted rookie free agent Mike Bell has catapulted into the starting lineup in Monday morning's practice.

Bell has leapfrogged Ron Dayne and Tatum Bell. Bell remains the No. 2 back. Dayne has fallen from No. 1 to No. 3.

Mike Bell has impressed coaches with his hard running and the way he fits the Broncos' system. The Arizona product is a Denver native and a lifelong Broncos fans.

The move doesn't necessarily mean Mike Bell will start opening day in St. Louis on Sept. 10, but it gives him the inside track. He'll likely start against Detroit in the preseason opener Friday.

Ahaha, the Dayne haters are going to have a field day with this one!

Unfortunately the Bell vs. Bell threads are going to get very confusing.

The Denver Post reports the most eye-opening player in the first week of the Broncos' training camp is RB Mike Bell, who worked his way into the mix for the starting tailback job. The undrafted rookie free agent from the University of Arizona has been a surprise thus far, and he could work his way up the depth chart this week. Bell has shown he fits Denver's running style, and some in the organization have compared his performance in camp to RB Terrell Davis' in 1995. If Bell has another strong week of practice, he likely will get significant playing time in the preseason opener Friday at Detroit, where he can show the team if he is ready to compete with RB Tatum Bell and RB Ron Dayne for the starting tailback job. Denver HC Mike Shanahan often lauded Bell for his work and strong running style in camp.

Not nec the starter yet but could be soon. Not sure if its hype or beat writers thoguhts, but how much fun would that be.

Mike Bell starting after a few days of practice?

Does anyone see this as anything OTHER than a motivational ploy?

People have said the same about Dayne and Anderson last year to motivate Bell...but MIKE BELL? C'MON!!!

Full disclosure: Cedric Cobbs owner in 2 leagues (at least for now  )

THis is the actual Denver Post report, which came out before the practice session when Mike Bell was running with the #1 team (both articles by the same guy BTW).http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_4145103

The most eye-opening player in the first week of the Broncos' training camp? Mike Bell, who worked his way into the mix for the starting tailback job.

The undrafted rookie free agent from the University of Arizona has been a surprise thus far, and he could work his way up the depth chart this week. Bell has shown he fits Denver's running style, and some in the organization have compared his performance in camp to Terrell Davis' in 1995.

Denver coach Mike Shanahan often lauded Bell for his work and strong running style in camp.

Bell was projected to be a mid-round pick, but a poor 40-yard dash time at the NFL combine and his pro day hurt his chances. Denver signed him and gave him a $20,000 signing bonus shortly after the draft.

Bell is a Denver native and a lifelong Broncos fan.

"I just want to give everything I have and compete," Bell said.

I have some friends who have been to every practice session and said that he has been the best back. Maybe they just want to throw him up there with the #1 O and see how he does.

very :goodposting:he has been the best back (according to cecil's, and others bronco camp reports), but has done it with 2nd stringers...lets see what he can do with the 1st string

Why not Mike Bell?

It's not like he'd be the first, second or even third guy to emerge from obscurity and find success in the Denver system.

Certainly amusing though that a guy named Bell emerges at the top of the pecking order, yet his first name isn't Tatum.

I read somewhere (a FBG poster) that it was more a case of Dayne and Bell, being the more veteran backs, are pacing themselves a bit, while Mike Bell is running with the frerocity of an undrafted free agent.

Anyone think this holds any water? (Apparently Mike Shanangans doesn't).

No. And if they actually think so they are idiots and are about to lose their job.

Yeah, I don't think "pacing themselves" will go over that well with Shanny. Especially T. Bell (time to use first initials, no?), who has the door wide open for him.

:blackmfingdot:

Seriously, the biggest thing about this is the possibility of him going much lower than even MA did last year.

After today, wille Mike Bell have the biggest +% change in the "Most Added/Dropped" section in the history of fantasy sports?

Interesting to say the least but I cant believe yahoo doesnt even have Mike Bell :hot:
:goodposting: ... i've been trying to add him for over a week now,
Not in myfantasyleague.com either. I'm in the middle of 3 rookie drafts right now, this should throw a nice wrench in things.
We both just tried to pick him up. I saw something on another site earlier (wasn't this one, so I won't say which one), and tried...but nothing.I posted a message on our board. I just picked up a replacement for him, but to be fair, we need to flip for him.

As a gneral rule, these sites don't add any UDFA until he makes the squad in some form. Some wait until its the 53 man others the practive squad is ok.Personally, I am not adjusting anything until a couple of games play out in the pre-season or Mike S. makes a declaration.

Your commish needs to add him as a custom player: go to >For Commissioners >Setup >Players And Rosters >Enter Custom PlayersHave already seen one draft where and owner picked Jos-Schmo and put Mike Bell in the comments and it got hosed upMFL is not updating FA lists until the next round of NFL cutdowns.

Just for kicks, here's a look at Mike Bell's career at Arizona.

Played in every game all 4 years.

Gained over 1,000 yards in his last two seasons (if you don't count negative yardage).

Averaged 4.76 ypc his senior year and 4.60 his junior year.

Scored 5 TD's in each of his final two years.

Since when don't we count negative yards?

i'm more inclinued to believe this report than williamson's schlock about:
He'll likely start against Detroit in the preseason opener Friday.
Likely????I'd bet TBell starts if RDayne doesn't.

 exaclty - he's not "likely" to start until the team evaluates him with the first unit in practice.

Marc come on.The article that the mastermind is quoting is by Williamson and posted several hours before his report about Bell "working" with the first team.
