Mike Tomlin Intentionally Disrupted KO Return: Proof! (2 Viewers)

schefter reporting decision has been reached on punishment.

nfl will be changing team's name from Pittsburgh Stealers to Pittsburgh Cheaters

I really wouldn't mind seeing something like a 1 year suspension. The NFL doesn't have the stones to do it to the Steelers, but it would be nice to see some justice.
Not enough. $1 million fine, lifelong suspension and vacating all wins by the Steelers organization under Tomlin, including Super Bowl XIII.

Only then will justice be served
The NFL had better tread pretty lightly in this case, seeing as how an even bigger and more sinister organization is behind the Rooneys.
Irish Mafia?
Uhm, yeah... annnnd?
The Boyscouts?
Dan Rooney re-organized the IRA when he was the ambassador to Ireland.
That's why the ROTH limits are now $5500 & $6500 I guess

Irish Mafia, IRA or whoever couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag. Their organizations define ineptitude.

He keeps saying that he is taking responsibility. That he is owning it. But he isn't. Admitting that he did it on purpose, like the rest of the world already knows, would be owning it and taking responsibility. So I guess now he's a liar too.

I think his punishment should be that he has to immediately leave the Steelers and take over as Head Coach of the Vikings.
Wait! I didn't hear mention of forfeiting his first born yet...

(Full disclosure: I think he did it intentionally. ;) )

Not being a homer here, honest, cause I could easily do without him as HC of the Steelers. But, how can any of you know what Tomlin saw? Give me a break. He stands on the field all the time, most coaches do. Maybe he has done the exact same thing 100 times but never did the returner come so close to the sidelines(and Jones was getting caught regardless).

Fine him, suspend him, I dont care. $100K misses a game or two. It will solve nothing. And the Steelers suck this year anyway, so go ahead, suspend him 4 games, dont mean anything to a rational Steeler fan.

This is just another example of America getting too caught up in something meaningless. Its not like he shived Jones when he was running by.

But haters gonna hate. You're jealous cause we got 6 and you dont.

Absolutely not a Steeler homer here. Loser Jet fan. :hey:

I like Tomlin. But while there appears to be a lot of acting on his part going on right now, where he really should have used it was immediately following the incident. You know, sheepish grin. Slumped shoulders. Some head shakes for effect...

Instead, he walked around looking like a guy who just got away with murder- and was proud of it.

As for all the silly major suspension/fine/loss of picks talk?? Not me. A decent fine would be fine by me- one in keeping in line with other similar incidents.

Similar incidents suspended a coach for the rest of the season.

I saw a pic taken once of someone smiling at a funeral wake. I guess from that instance anyone who looks at that pic can assume that person was smiling because a person was dead. Right?

Right. :hophead:

1) He did it on purpose. Look at the reactions from Baltimore players; you think they'd be so indifferent if this sort of stuff wasn't regular, probably even expected? After the play, Tomlin is seen grinning like a guy who knows he just pulled some BS, and the people surrounding him (his players and staff) know it too.

Cheating goes on all the time--look at the Seadderall Seahawks (did you know that the current CBA prohibits the league from disclosing what a player tests positive for? Adderall is one of the most benign drugs on the prohibited list, and only the player can tell media what they got nailed for...)

2) The penalty will be entirely a political calculation. Goodell is basically a dictator in these situations: If the incident causes the kind of furor spygate did, Tomlin will get his balls handed to him. If it's one of those 'single news cycle' type deals that will go away soon enough, he'll get off easier. It's not a court of law; past incidents and precedents and all that don't matter nearly as much as some seem to think.

As Mike said, the team hadnt allowed a KR past midfield the entire season. Expected? No.
I don't mean that specific tactic was expected, I mean in general, dirty little tricks on both sides to win a big game are the norm.

They were pretty much the terrorist organization that threw in the towel after the War On Terror started.

Should be a two gamer and a first round pick in next years draft surrendered. It was deliberate act to interfere with an opposing player on the field of play. Saying he was just disoriented is an insult to the fans intelligence.

First time weighing in (or even seeing the video), but is it possible Tomlin saw the upman signal the play (which you see in the above video) was going along the left sideline? If so, it makes complete sense that he was able to stay with his back to the play and then peek at the last second.

He was on the left sideline. And he was watching the play on the jumbotron so no matter what the ref might've signalled, he was watching and knew which side Jones was on.

Not the ref, number 45(?), at the very start of the clip. He signals which way the return should go, no?

I'm not even sure what that means (what do you mean by "should", the kick was on the left and the return stayed on the same side the entire time), but doesn't matter. Tomlin's watching the jumbotron, he can see what side the return is on, no matter what the refs might be signaling.

Ah forget it, ha.

You can see him looking at the field out of the corner of his eye waiting for Jones to get close before he jumps out of the way.
...With a quick step to his right to launch his leftbound move. Jones in turn deviates his course.

Hey- Jones was going to get caught anyway, but that's not really the point.

The NFL should hammer Tomlin and the Steelers. There is no question that he timed his move based on watching the play unfold on the Jumbotron, which Tomlin has already said he was doing. Also, this angle makes it clear that Jacoby Jones reacted to his action and it allowed him to be caught from behind.

Tomlin should be suspended as well as fined and it should not be a short suspension. I've always liked Tomlin, but that was pure bush league! I wonder how mad the Steelers will be at hometown KDKA over this.

That's not any kind of proof.

I think Tomlin did it intentionally, but all that video show is him standing slightly on the field, then jumping out of the way. It doesn't show him stepping to his right, as the article tries to suggest.

Again, I think Tomlin did try to influence Jones by being on the field, but that video doesn't "prove" anything of the sort.
Going to have to disagree with you, Bayhawks. If you watch the video all the way through and watch the slo-mo they show, he clearly violently jumped to his right just as Jones was reaching him while he was watching Jones run toward himself on the jumbotron. It seems conclusive to me that he either intentionally interfered/cheated or that he has Tourrette's Syndrome which he's done a great job of keeping under control until now.
I'm sorry, "violently jumped?" All that it shows is him moving from on the white paint (line?) slightly onto the field. The move covered no more than 6 inches, and he never had both feet off the ground at once. Therefore, it was never a jump, and the very subtle 6" move could hardly be called a "violent" movement.

Again, I think it was intentional, but your "proof" is nothing of the sort. It's the same video that has been seen many times before. Tomlin's story that he was watching the return on the jumbotron, then realized he was in the way, matches that story. Maybe he will say he saw on the replay that Jones was going to score & he stopped walking because he was dejected, than he realized he had "inadvertently" edged onto the field.

Again, I think he did it on purpose, but your video doesn't prove that.
He watched on the Jumbotron until the breakaway ball carrier got close to him and then took a sudden jab step ON TO THE FIELD OF PLAY IN THE DIRECT PATH OF THE BALL CARRIER. I am assuming you didn't actually watch the link that was posted by KDKA with the slo-mo which clearly shows this. It is not the same video that the networks were showing prior to KDKA's release of this angle. Tomlin, and you, can say whatever you want, but the video shows he clearly intentionally got into the ball carrier's path, jumped away, and then laughed about it. The video doesn't lie but Tomlin does.

If Payton got a one year suspension, Tomlin should get at least 4 games. And the Steelers should forfeit a significant draft pick. Your possible explanation of his action is as ridiculous as my suggestion that his dormant Tourrette's Syndrome suddenly awakened. I won't argue semantics with you...violent, sudden, whatever. He cheated intentionally. That is inarguable. I believe Tomlin is confusing "intentional" and "pre-meditated". I'm sure it wasn't planned in advance, but he got an opportunity to disrupt a huge, decisive play and he instinctively took advantage of that opportunity. Just because it wasn't pre-meditated doesn't mean it isn't cheating, and he knows it. The lies only make it worse and further the damage done to young players and coaches who are influenced by the NFL.

If Jones is directly behind (as he was), how is looking out the corner of his eye going to let him see Jones get close?

Does he have an eye behind his right ear?

I think you need to re-watch the video.....

Tomlin glances over his shoulder as Jones is approaching and then jumps out of the way at the last second.

Must be a Steelers fan....or someone that doesn't have the ability to look over their shoulder without turning their shoulder....

$100K to Tomlin, NFL to consider forfeiture or modification of draft pick(s) once NFL Draft order is set.
I am not sure of the rationale for penalizing the organization unless you think the team was behind the action, condoned it or tried to cover it up.

I love how $100k is considered a light punnishment, when most people don't make that in a year lol! He got fined more than a player who intentionally tries to hurt a QB with a nasty hit. He may also lose Draft picks. That seems pretty harsh doesn't it? I'm in no way a Steelers fan and wish the worst for them (bitter Hawks fan) but I feel that is a pretty good punnishment. If he tripped him I would see a bigger punnishment, but it is impossible to prove intent even with that grin. He could have accidentally done it and then been like "wow I just saved us a TD on accident" and smiled about it.

:lmao:

The draft order should have no bearing on the pick forfeited. Rooney was very influential On Goodell getting the commish gig so this isn't surprising.
