Miles Austin week 10 (1 Viewer)

Going with Steve Johnson over Austin this week. Have a few trade requests out that people are mulling over. Hopefully Austin does something this weekend and I can give up the headache (trades being considered are for Best, B.Jackson, and one other that escapes me right now).

I think this is the ultimate rear-view mirror "don't sit your studs" thread. Wait till the end of Sunday, and this thing will be filled with palms to the face after Austin goes off. Just a feeling.
I have the same feeling, I think he does better than most are projecting.

macdaddy, I don't believe I'm overreacting. That's what I was told after the Jags' game when I said that while I was very happy with Austin's overall numbers I was concerned that once again he went a large portion of the game not being involved in the passing game. I was told by some that I was nuts to be worried and Austin's elite talent (which I agree he has) was back in business. So what happened against Green Bay?2-16-0I don't think anyone can argue that Bryant has been more productive than Austin since Kitna took over. That's not an opinion. That's a fact. Maybe that's all a product of matchups. If that's the case, why would anyone expect things to get better this week against the No. 2 pass defense in the NFL?Like I said, if someone can make a convincing argument for why they think Austin's fortunes will turn around and he's a worthy starting option this week please let me hear it because the last thing I want to do is bench a guy who was an elite WR just a few weeks ago. I simply don't know if I can afford to start him and have him put up another dog of a game.
I will tell you what happened against Green Bay. Kitna overthrew Austin on a sure LONG touchdown bomb down that field when Austin had completely burnt the entire defense. That was his shot for huge impact in that game. Other than that... Green Bay was all over Kitna and he didn't have a chance to do much of anything.

Didn't stop Kitna from continuing to get the ball a ton to Bryant.

I'm starting Austin over Gaffney and Lee Evans. No way he can have a week as bad as last week.

I'm gonna ride or die with him...

This is the worst thread of ff decisions I've ever read. I'll be back to gloat when Austin blows up this week, or even if he doesn't. Lee Evans over Miles Austin, that's a good one.
I saw two red tailed hawks today before the games started, seriously I did, right out behind my backyard in a field. Miles Austin's success today reminded me of that and I just wanted to share it with all of you.

Not too enthused 2/68/1
He's clearly the No. 2 WR on the team as long as Kitna is the QB. I'll take the TD but I think the days of Austin posting big reception totals are done for this season. Kitna absolutely loves throwing to Bryant. Bryant is an incredible talent but Austin's pretty damn good too. Unfortunately, the passing game seems to be Bryant first, check down to the RBs or Witten and then maybe look to Austin.

Austin's days of lapping the other Dallas wr's in stats are LONG gone. I don't even think Romo coming back changes that.

I think a healthy Romo next season helps Austin be a Top 15-20 WR. Rock solid WR2. I think Bryant could be Top 10. He really is impressive.

This will eventually work out in Austin's favor. The double coverage that he gets is leaving Dez Bryant man on man most of the time. With Dez getting so much action... this will work back in Austin's favor as teams start to pull off of him a bit. They tried to go man on man with him on his touchdown catch and he shook the defender out of his shoes. Witten didn't get much of anything today... so it was just an odd offensive day anyways.

I tend to agree. I see Miles in the category right below Marshall, Jennings, and Wayne. If I was a betting man, which I, I'd say he's peaked.

Austin was open most of the game, kitna just doesnt look his way much
It's been that way pretty much every game since Kitna took over. Austin's been open a lot but Kitna doesn't look his way. I know some people don't like it when I say Kitna's ignoring Austin but I think that accurately describes it. When Kitna looks downfield his first read is almost always Bryant. That's the way it is and after four games, and now a victory, I don't see that changing. It's obvious Garrett wants to get the ball to Bryant and isn't feeling compelled to create ways to get the ball to Austin, something that happened frequently last season. The torch has been passed but if Austin can get some TDs hopefully he can be a WR2/3 the rest of the way.

I just hope Romo comes back week 15-16. Great matchups and it will be the Austin show again. I can't believe that Kitna fails to look his way more often. Austin is an absolute monster on quck slant routes. Just get the ball in his hands.

Also... it will DEFINITELY lean back in Austin's favor when Romo comes back. It's all about chemistry guys. Kitna has better chemistry with Dez because he worked with him so much as the back-ups. Romo has basically no chemistry with Dez and clearly hasn't gotten any more with him since he has been out. Romo and Austin have chemistry as good as any other QB-WR combo in the league.

i started him since Nicks went down.......got away with it thanks to the 60 yard run.........they keep trying to throw it to dez in the flats and hopes he breaks a play, dont know why they can do it with austin too

you see teams are starting to expect the short passes to dez, almost every other pass gets batted down, the saints intercepted one just like clay matthews did in that packer/cowboy smackdown a couple weeks ago....

Because they are overly enamored with Bryant and devising creative ways to get the ball to Austin (which Garrett did a great job of doing last season and earlier this season) simply isn't important to them. All of the bubble screens and quick hitters they used to run for Austin are all going to Bryant now. As far as yesterday, we really saw Kitna's limitations take both Austin and Bryant down. Kitna lacks the ability to throw the ball downfield so everything was in the intermediate zones, primarily to Witten and check downs to Jones. The Saints were able to really press down on the WRs because they knew (or appeared to know) Kitna couldn't beat them deep. The Cowboys' passing game is extremely limited with Kitna and defenses may be wising up to it. So Austin had only three receptions (although he dropped one for what would have been a minimal gain and should have had a TD if Kitna hadn't thrown a terrible pass) and Bryant had none. Williams was more active but he did a lot of his damage on slant routes.Overall for Austin, the good news is he's scoring touchdowns despite rarely being involved in the passing game. So he's getting it done to make him a viable WR2. Also, if more defenses start putting a safety over the top on Bryant the way the Saints did that should give Austin more freedom to work. Of course, then you have to hope Kitna can get the ball to him. Your feelings about Austin's potential there will depend on how much faith you have in Kitna as a quarterback. Sadly, the days of Miles Austin catching more than 3-4 passes in a game may be gone until Tony Romo returns.
