Miter saws (1 Viewer)

I'm a new homeowner and am looking into buying my first miter saw. What type of miter saw do you have?  What do you recommend?  I see there are 10 inch,12 inch, sliding, compound etc.

Depends a lot on what you plan on doing with it.  Are you just cutting 2 X 4's or are you going to be cutting something bigger? Just doing fix-ups or are you planning on doing crown molding?

IMO if you're gonna buy one, get one with better capabilities. I bought a 12 compound mitre saw. It's heavier than necessary but I can cut more types of stock (including taller trim).

Not sure on whether you need compound/sliding, but either way, definitely get a 12". Before I bought mine, I asked for opinions, and to a person, everyone who had a 10" wishes he bought the 12.

The sliding function allows you to cut bigger pieces, like if you have to cut an 8" board or a 6x6. I prefer the sliding action to a chop saw. I almost never use the compound/bevel feature, but I don't think they make a non-compound sliding saw.  Spend a little more if you're going to do delicate miters and need accuracy. Upgrading your blade can make a big difference.

Get the 12" sliding compound saw.  Eventually, you will need all the saw.  Make sure you get a good extra blade now too.  Fighting with a dull blade in the middle of a project sucks.
