MJD - Microfracture Surgery? (1 Viewer)

My understanding is that "spot microfracture" is much more effective than wholesale microfracture where there is absolutely no cartilage left in the knee. If MJD had microfracture surgery it sounds like it would be the "spot" variety. I would feel too worried.

Kinda like Marques Colston?
And Reggie Bush.....even a more fair comparison, since Bush and MJD are both "cutters" not "go up and get'ems". You must be a MJD owner? Sour grapes....then news that is. Sorry to hear it man.
 If you informed yourself a little before replying, you would learn that there are many different forms of microfracture surgery and each has a different impact on a NFL player and his future production. Even if this report is true, it's premature to determine the impact on MJD until we know what type of condition he has and what type of surgery was performed. He could perform just fine next year, like Colston. Of course, it is likely that Colston won't have as long a career as a typical WR of his caliber, so there is still a long-term impact for dynasty owners. But instead, you come back with "You must be an MJD owner?"

Doesnt sound like colstons at all, who had his patella done.

bone on bone could be similar to brandon roy's (nba player) situation and beyond the scope of mf. mjd playing this season may prove to be extremely irresponsible and damaging to his career.

Woah. Lets not overreact here. Roy has no caritlage in his knee...period. Meaning he couldn't have surgery - there was nothing to operate on. MJD had surgery, we just don't know what kind.

the jags staff was aware and monitoring his knee all year. if they let him play with an injury that could impact his career they are incompetent.

i doubt an nfl medical staff is incompetent.

Is this a set up for yet another Cutler reference who played a whole season w/o his medical staff noticing he had diabetes?

its hard for me to believe that allowing a players knee to deteriorate to bone on bone, or allowing a player to undertake a full season with a bone on bone situation already in effect, is the most responsible decision for the long term career and health of the player. i am not a doctor, nor have i done any research on such a condition.its certainly possible that he was bone on bone in the preseason and they deemed that not a high risk. or that immediate surgery would not save his knee from developing bone on bone. maybe that guy who does the 2nd opinion article can find someone to clarify.

[COMPUTER VOICE]: "You are right. Everything is just fine with Maurice Jones-Drew. He is going to have a great offseason and the best season of his career in 2011. Nothing to worry about with MJD. I see 2,000 rushing, 1,000 recieving, and 25 TD's. I think he should be the #1 overall pick in redraft leagues".

I don't think I would state it as sarcastically, but you definitely have to be concerned since not only is he having microfracture surgery but he is having it so late. I could definitely see this having an impact at the very least on his 2011 stats.
