I realize it was vs the Bronco's...but MJD looked very good yesterday. I'm not sure the extent of Taylor's injury, but I would think the coaching staff would see what MJD could do and start giving him the ball more than 10 times per game.

He's the most explosive player on their team and I myself forgot about that until yesterday. He has been way under utilized up until yesterday, and it took a Taylor injury to get him some looks.

1) get used to it. JDR will rotate Taylor and MJD as long as both are there and healthy. Greg Jones will get a few as well.

2) it was the Broncos.

it's not like MJD is new. They know what they have. Taylor will be fine. He actually looked like he could have come back in but they didn't want to take a risk with a head injury. He looked really dazed and out of it in the first half.

I understand what you're saying. But, the kid is tough and could handle a full load. What is it that doesn't makes the coaching staff not want to start him and spell him with Taylor occasionally?

I'll disagree with the bolded part because until MJF get 6-8 targets per game he will contnue to be under utilized. I have no problem with Taylor and Jones getting touches, but it's fairly obvious that MJD should be getting 12-15 carries and 6-8 targets per game and THEN Taylor and Jones should split the remainder. Unfortunately, JDR is doing the exact opposite. It's absolutely idiotic.

Sure, if the team needs one play, the guy is MJD.

But a football game is a whole bunch of plays, so when you look at it like that, it makes more sense to spread the load between a very good Fred Taylor and a great MJD so that towards the end of the game they are both fresh and able to make the crucial plays needed at the end of the game.

If you can keep MJD fresh with someone that is 90% as good at running the ball and equally as good at everything else, you do it. Also, FT is the team leader and giving him the start is good for the entire team and shows the coaches care about doing things the right way and reward dedication. In fantasy terms, you'd just run MJD out there until his legs fall off, but in real world football terms, the two back approach is best.

After watching yesterday, it looks to me like MJD and Jones could do pretty well without Fred. It remains to be seen what happens when Fred is healthy again but it looks to me like the other 2 could handle that backfield and make Taylor obsolete.

I'm not advocating that at all. All I'm saying is that MJD is the teams best player, and should be switching rolls with Taylor. He should be the one starting and getting a breather every now and then.

Whats funny is that the Jags played there best game of the season with MJD carrying the load, why cant Del Rio see this and cut out his loyalty to Fred Taylor?

Regardless of how Del Rio uses him, MJD is one of the exceptional talents in the league. He's has a complete game and is a class act on and off the field.

As for his touches, his time will come. As Taylor's amazing career winds down, MJD can play Barber to his Jones. Soon enough it will be MJD's team.

Maybe he will, but it's worth remembering that people were saying the same things last year before Taylor ended with 5 consecutive 100+ yard games and finished the season with a 5.4 average.

it's not like MJD is new. They know what they have.
They do? I sometimes wonder. Jones-Drew has gotten 7 carries or less in four of their six games this year. They are 1-3 in those games. That is inexcusable.
:goodposting: Exactly....those of us who drafted MJD did so because we can see the talent and assumed JDR could as well. Moreover, I don't think any of us are arguing that Taylor should be put out to pasture and that MJD should get 300+ carries this year. But prior to this game:

MJD had a per carry average of 4.1 vs. Taylor's 3.4

MJD had a per catch average of 8.5 vs. Taylor's 5.6

MJD had 3 TDs vs. Taylor's 0

MJD had been given 43 carries vs. Taylor's 69

MJD had carried the ball more than seven times in ONLY one of 5 games vs. all 5 games for Taylor

MJD had never had more carries than Taylor in any game this year

MJD was on pace for about 140 carries vs. Taylor's 220

MJD is 23 years old vs. 32 for Taylor

Oh, and if stats don't do it for you:

MJD has LOOKED better (faster, more powerful, shiftier) than Taylor all year long

I feel like Taylor is being played more just for loyalty more than anything else. JDR is a former player and I think he likes Taylors commitment to the Jags organization. Taylor at 32 would be more suited to receive less carries than the younger MJD. It just makes sense to everyone except Del Rio, IMO.

Not sure what it's gonna take to get MJD the lionshare of carries?

RB's with 60+ touches and their FPTS per touch. Give MJD the ball more!

Trust me. I know. I owned him last year. There were some frustrating games then as well. I got good value though. This year he went earlier than I thought he should so I didn't get him.

I agree, but there is no doubt that MJD could be a Top 3 RB in the NFL with 20-25 touches a game. The guy is a game breaker.
