MNF - Pats/Bengals Predictions & Discussions (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
What I think the final score will be: N.E. 44 CINCY 24

What I want the final score to be: CINCY 3 N.E. 0

I happen to be one of the unlucky souls playing against C.J. and Moss!

:wall:

No Rudi = no real threat of a running game = no chance for the Bengals. New England has scored exactly 38 points in each of their first three games. I see no reason why they should score less than that on Monday night, short of a monsoon in the forecast. Can any of you honestly make a case for the Bengals winning this game? If they win, it will be by outscoring the Pats, not by stopping them. I can't see it happening.

The Patriots are on a mission to prove their critics wrong. This is their first time in prime time since the whole stealing signs (much to do about nothing) scandal. They are going to make someone pay for this in a big way on prime time. The Bengals just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Prediction:

New England: 50

Cinci: 13

New Englan

So I keep thinking this is the week the Pats focus more on the run game, then I keep remembering that the passing attack is superhuman. I'm sorry to say for you that the Bengals will put up more points than the Pats prior competition, however.

Pats 41

Cinn 27

Brady 25/34, 280, 4TDs

Maroney/Morris 18/135, 1TD

Moss 7/135/2

Palmer 23/38, 260, 2TDs

Rudi/Watson 16/80, 1TD

Chad 7/95/1

TJHoush 9/110/1

Pssst! The Bengals lost their last shootout. To the Browns.

Cincy's defense is so bad the Pats might put up 76 points this week so they can use the extra 38 points during their bye to keep the streak alive.

NE thrashes CIN and Sammy Morris runs wild for my FF team with a hammy stricken Maroney resting up for the Dallas showdown in a few weeks.

As a Bengals fan, I shudder at how bad Tom Brady and Randy Moss are gonna rip apart our defense. This game will be high scoring, but NE will still destroy us.

New England has scored exactly 38 pts in 3 straight weeks. I say without Rudi Johnson, Palmer will pass pass and pass some more.

NE 42 Cinc 28

The Patriot offence has been a model of consistency for a number years. Now with the edition of Moss it has reached critical mass. 30+ points on a weekly basis means there are plenty of fantasy points to go around.

The Bengals over the past couple of seasons have established themselves as a contender, however at this early juncture of the season they seem to have regressed into a one-trick pony, Palmer throwing to his two receivers, thats all they have.

I predict a relatively low-scoring affair with neither team being able to get their offenses in gear. Something like 23-19.

I think Cincy will have their best game of the year and I would not be surprised at all if Cincy wins this game. This is the NFL and everything changes week to week.

NEP 41

CIN 14

No way Cincy is in this game barring major injuries or crazy turn overs. Should be another behind-the-woodshed-beat-down-on-national-TV for the NEPs.

I can't think of one reason to back the Bengals in this game.

Cincy can't stop the pass.

Brady is unstoppable this season.

Pats have solid run & pass D.

Cincy's top RB is out.

Cincy will be able to pass, but not much else.

NE will tee off and go after Palmer once they get a double-digit lead.

I think the over is a very safe bet. As well as NE -7. That is a JOKE line.

PS

Forgot to add ... in case anyone thinks NE might be a bit unmotivated and flat ... this is the first post-CameraGate away game. Expect the team to be fired up and motivated by the hostile taunts.

:lmao:
Rudi sucks, so that can't be the reason they don't have a chance.

If NE didn't lose in CIN last year with decimated secondary, I just don't see how they lose this year.

WE all know how much firepower NE has added.

Last year in CIN, it was the Maroney show (140 yds, 2TDs) and I believe Dillon had a TD too. The Pats ran for 240(?) total yards on CIN last year and kept the high powered Bengals Offense in check.

Now, this year, CIN' starting LBers have a combined experience of 40 days (or so) on the CIN defense and Rudi Johnson will be inactive.

Nothing has changed in favor of CIN here. In fact, it's become much, much more difficult.

It almost seems like a trap.

As much as I thought the decimated NE team would lose to the 3-0 Bengals last year (and they didn't), I just don't see how the Bengals can hang with the 3-0 Pats this year (so, they probably will).

looking forward to a great game. I'd really like to see a high scoring affair.

And as a Pats fan, I really do enjoy watching Carson Palmer. He's a fantastic QB.

Anyone know if Asante Samuel usually just stays on one side of the field, or will he be in CJ's jersey all night?

(Hoping for the latter....) :banned:

:banned: After much thought and deliberation, I tried to think of a way that Cincy could win...It would be natural for Cincy to come out firing off their 2 big guns early, I don't think they are going to do that. Kenny Watson is a good runner, if they can establish him early, and get the Patriots worried about the run, it could open things up a bit for CJ and Housh, and slow down the pass rush. Cincy has a very good o-line, they are giving Carson time to pass like he had in 2005. If the Patriots go into the game thinking about contain in the secondary and use the LBs for middle routes, that could create holes for Kenny, so they just may be successful at it. As soon as the Patriots change things up and worry about the run more, then the long ball gets released and CJ and Hush start doing their thing. On the other side of the ball, the Patriots are going to want to get off to a quick start, not just to make a statement, but to force Cincy into a one dimensional team, if Cincy can play contain, and stop the big plays, just giving them short passes and runs, it could get them frustrated a little into making mistakes. Turn-overs are really the only way the Bengals D can hope to keep them in the game, if they can create some frustration, things could fall their way.None of this will last, because Bill will make the adjustments, and there are to many good players on both sides of the ball for New England.41 Patriots20 Bengals

Cinci's defense is too soft and the team in general plays too sloppy to compete with New England. I can't see them putting up a fight especially considering that Rudi is out. Moreover, the Pats just seem to have Cinci's number. The past few times they have played it's been pretty one sided.

I agree with this, Cinncy doesn't have the D to hang with NE, Pats would have to shoot themselves in the foot for Cinncy to have any chance of winning, and that rarely happens with Brady at QB.

If there's a weakness in NE's defense, it's their secondary ATM.

If there's a strength on Cinci's team, it's their passing game.

This is a decent matchup for Cinci and they will do better than many of the lopsided scores I see on here. The problem for them is they don't have anyone who can stop the run. Maroney finally finds the endzone this week.

New England 30 and Cincinatti 24

I am not as confident in the Bengals to point up alot of points. Besides Cle they haven't really exploded yet. Now, their defense forces them to have to throw alot but with Johnson out I think the Pats can focus on the passing game.

though I don't disagree with your post, please consider the following:from the NFL game notes in last year's week 4 game:
With starting cornerback Ellis Hobbs and safety Eugene Wilson sidelined by injuries, the Patriots had to improvise. Receiver Troy Brown reprised his role as nickel back, lining up on passing downs the way he did each of the last two seasons when New England was beat up.That knack for improvisation helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls this decade. It worked again on Sunday."They knew they couldn't stop us, but you need the team as a whole to succeed," receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said. "There aren't any (defensive backs) on that team that can cover us. That's why they played the coverages they did. They did a good job of mixing it up."
the NE secondary in last years matchup was made up of:A Samuel, Chad Scott, Artrell Hawkins, Hank Poteat, Troy Brown4 of these guys aren't even playing in the secondary right now. This group (minus A Samuel) is on par with NE current 3rd stringers (R Baker, M Mitchell, W Andrews.)with E Wilson, R Gay, E Hobbs, J Sanders, and B Meriwether now in the mix, this secondary is far superior to what it was a year ago.Don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to make the case the NE has a great secondary, only that their current secondary is far superior to what they were putting on the field a year ago.

Why is the point spread only 7? Who's betting on the Bengals?
:rolleyes:I can only surmise that Vegas thinks the sharps might jump on Cincy +7.5 as soon as they hang it.IMO, the best they can hope for is a push all around. They probably wish this game wasn't even being played.

I'm guessing that CIN tries to take away Moss and pressure Brady into quick decisions with lots of blitzes. I'm starting Welker and Watson for that reason. On the other side of the ball, Palmer will be able to take advantage of the NE secondary with CJ and Housh. I'm sure Bill has seen that taking CJ out of the game is effective and will coverages that way. The NE 3-4 is strong enough to stop Watson most of the time. So I'm starting TJ Who's Your Mama.

Note -- all of this in a PPR league

 I don't get this. If what you and other Pat fans repeatedly keep saying is true, then these guys are underachievers and unprofessional. Included in this statement that due to being so "motivated" they are going to play harder is the implication that they have not been playing very hard in past seasons or I suppose in Week 1 this year. It's ridiculous drivel for the media and fans and message boards, just like the Whisnehunt/Grimm/Tomlin hype. Essentially irrelevant. Also, if this is the key to success, then all the other 31 teams need to do is find some rule to break that questions their integrity and accomplishments. Then their players will be motivated to play harder. <_<

I get to play against a team that has Moss and Housh. My QB is Palmer so i'm hoping that he has throws to CJ alot. But my prediction for this game will be NE 49- Cin 28

Cincy will be down large & early. Being as one dimensional as they are w/out Rudi, I think Palmer to a large extent will be relatively ineffective (it pains me to say this b/c I own him).

Pats 47

Cin 23

Might be a shootout, but I doubt that Cincy's D can even slow down NE. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Pats go over 50. I'll say 49-31.

 If the Pats score less than 51, it's a moral loss.52-24, or whatever it takes both to exceed 51 & to double up Cincy's score.

Patriots 54 Bengals 20

If it weren't for the fact that Brian Billick is a complete idiot, the Bengals would be 0-3 today. The Patriots are significantly better than the Browns.

NOT trying to make this a WDIS, but I'm struggling over whether to start Welker or Galloway (against the Panthers). I'm thinking Welker will be open in what should turn out to be a shootout, but will Galloway perform better?

I mean, if Derek Anderson can put up the numbers he did, what can Brady do? Or will Belicheck run 60 times?

so no one thinks that NE will slow it down this week and try to burn the clock on the ground, knowing that cincy has a high powered offense?

ya Reg,I mentioned in my post that Cinci can't stop the run, they're linebackers are dinged up. I also predict Maroney gets into the endzone for the first time.Even with that said, it's not like the Rb's will just fall down to slow the clock. They're going to run, and run well and when they do use play action, it'll work like a charm.Iv'e got New England scoring 30 points. I doubt very highly I'm off by more than a TD either way. If Cinci holds them to less than 23 points I'd be shocked.

 is right. Don't listen to that crap. It's not true. I also don't believe the Patriots are going to score even 35 points this week. They don't do things in response to outside issues. They'll do whatever it takes to win the game at hand. I doubt anyone there cares about proving the league wrong. Pats 31 Bengals 21

From Lonnie Wheeler of The Post on the Bengals:

They miss a lot of people.

They miss their second, third and fourth draft choices from 2003. Eric Steinbach is in Cleveland, Kelley Washington is in New England, Dennis Weathersby is out of the game.

They miss their first and second draft choices from 2004. Chris Perry is hurt again. Keiwan Ratliff was released this week.

They miss their first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth draft choices from 2005. David Pollack had the neck injury. Odell Thurman is on his second year of suspension. Henry is unavailable for five more games. Eric Ghiaciuc has a chance to return to the lineup this week. Adam Kieft doesn't. Neither does Tab Perry.

They miss their second draft choice from this year. Kenny Irons is on crutches.

This doesn't even consider Rudi is out this week. They can barely field a team. I don't see how they have a chance.

 as a Bengals homer.

I remember when the Pats went into Cincy last year thinking that the Bengals have the weapons that could light them up and turn the game into a shootout. Then the Pats did something I wasn't expecting...they pressured the hell out of Carson. Jarvis Green was a monster with a couple of sacks and a forced fumble. The Colts did the same thing in their MNF game vs. Cincy last year as well, turning what many thought would be a high-scoring affair into a laugher.

Lost in the Pats' 38pts/game start is the performance of the D, especially the pass rush. Colvin and Vrabel have been excellent at coming off the wings while Green, Wilfork and Warren have been collapsing the pocket. Adalius Thomas hasn't really gotten into the blitzing act, so it wouldn't surprise me if BB decides to unleash him this game.

I expect the Pats to bring the heat and keep the safeties back so CJ doesn't get any cheap scores. TJ is Cincy's best possession receiver so I expect the Pats CBs to play bump-and-run on him for the short stuff and dare Carson to be perfect on his throws under an intense rush. With the Bengals missing Rudy and not having a premiere tight end, I suspect the Pats will be playing more nickel, using underrated Randall Gay to help on CJ and TJ.

I don't expect the Bengals to top 20 Monday.

I think NE uses this game as a practice for Indy. In other words, don't play ball control and come out firing. Look to outscore them.

I've followed the team my whole life. They play with a chip on their shoulder. Period. That's reality. As far as them being unprofessional by needing to be motivated blah blah, I think it's a pretty common perception (whether true or not is another matter) that teams that are just beating down the opposition can tend to put things on cruise control. That's when "trap" games occur or whatever you want to call them.My point was that given the totally hostile crowd in prime time, the team will be extra-motivated. Spin my words toward your anti-Pats agenda however you like.At the end of the day, you're right it really doesn't matter.Cincy has a horrible defense and they will get completely torched by Brady.
