Mock [DYNASTY] draft (3 Viewers)

The Shark Pool has a thread covering indivudual's first round in a 16 team draft, but I'd like to see how a draft would actually play out.

My initial concept is a 16 team league, QRRWWWTKD + a flex R/W/T and a flex W/T. Or to make is simpler, remove the flexes.

Could also go IDP, but that becomes a lot longer.

I like the "reverse 3" concept, a regular serpentive works too.

Thoughts? Interest?

When you really....really think about this....if you're gonna go to all the trouble to do a "Mock Dynasty" Draft, you may as well convert it to a League and "Play 'Er On Out."That's a lot of trouble to go to to let it die.

Looks like a twelve teamer might be easier to fill.

It's not any easier or any harder. It's a strategy deal.I think you have to broaden the scope: if you state that it's a combined Rookie/FA draft then it becomes where to insert the Rookies.

The Rookie information curve is the hang up.

If you try to do that early in the information curve, it doesn't work because there's no information for that portion of the draft such as team affilitation, talent grades, etc.

An idea: allow for Rookies to be drafted in position-X designations (RB-X, WR-X, etc.). What this does is to allow for guys to insert Rookies into the draft by identifying there progression in the rookie position order.....as long as they attach a name, and a number, to the selection.

Example: if at the #3 turn, the first Rookie RB falls (RB-1), it's designated as that. Same with WR's, TE's. You get to spot the strategy that builds teams as some guys will rely on a combo of Vets and available Rookies, some guys will rely more on Rookies, etc.

If you think that a Rookie belongs as your #2 WR, and the WR-#1 Rookie is available, you draft him. If him equates to Crabtree, you identify WR-#1 and attach a name to it. If you want to draft a Rookie RB and RB-#6 is the next available in the progression, you attach a name to it and you draft the #6 Rookie RB, Name (RB-#X).

If it means that you may have to keep a seperate thread going for the rookies to ID the names associated with the positions but it allows a Mock dynasty to proceed before the NFL Rookie Draft.

There's interest from the two of "Us":

"We" are interested in "It".....however "It" is created and defined......and "It" appears to have dynasty implications and/or IDP implications; or maybe both (which means that if a Rookie, on either side of the ball, is good enough to make "your" squad for this, and for future years, you draft him wherever you want to draft him.)

You are also intersted in IDP stuff, as is Creeper who is a regular poster to the IDP threads. Same common ground.

The only way to get "There"....to a "IDP Dynasty Mock Draft" is to simplify "It" and define "It."

"It" is simplfyIed into "It's Componet Parts" WHICH are defined...the basic process is SIMPLYIFIED.

So, the component parts is Easy: take a model for an Yearly IDP Re-Draft....a one time competition by year.....and Define 'It" as just "That".......as a "Yearly IDP Redraft" competition!

Once you've done that and had a successful draft or several, you can branch off into Dynasty Leagues....but not before establishing the RESULTS of the base line model.

One you define that model, that if a Rookie is good enough to compete in this years competition, you can then draft a Rookie in where ever position FOR THIS YEAR'S COMPETITION.

That's easy and that's doable so to that end, I'll begin plunkin' around here in Fantasy Land.

You make some good points, I was just trying to see if there was interest before getting into details.

For the rookies, I'd prefer drafting "1.01 rookie pick" instead of the specific position, and then we'd get into the rookie draft come April - perhaps even doing a round or two before the real draft but that isn't too important to me.

The amount of work necessary for a Dynasty Draft....it's a shame to let it die. Plus, the results are dependent on the news cycle. A Dynasty Draft conducted this week yields a completly different result than one conducted third week of August.

Also, it's a lot easier to take a "canned template" League (say a "Zowned League") and do it. That way, you've got a scoring system, roster sizes, DEF/ST.....all that is a known and has an existing scoring curve to reference. If you create a new wheel, there's no known scoring reference and it just becomes touchy/feely.

Eliminate the 2 pts/reception for the TE's and play it out.

I joined one dynasty league forming on FFLicker, though I magine it will be a live draft. Slow draft on here works for me or however you guys wanna do it, GoBW should be able to make an appearance.

I'm more inclined to use PDSL scoring. I'm not intending to join a new league, it's the mock part that interests me. However, I could be convinced otherwise. I'd just need to think about it.

If this were to be in it's third year, how would it have gotten there?

1) It'd have a viable scoring system, one that related to real leagues.

2) It'd have a result.....to draft and not keep score is an exercise in fantasy flatulation.

3) It'd provide a reason for going to all the effort of doing it.

4) It'd be fun and provide an outlet for the "Mongul Draft Hoard."

5.) And last, but not least.....It would CONTINUE (see defn. "Dynasty").

Otherwise, just follow a Dynasty Draft generated by Draft Dominator....that's the same exercise. The only reason to do it to gain something from it....experience, knowledge, perspective, continuity......frustration......you get the drift?

Heck: if you want an ADP for Stafford or Moreno (in a start up dynasty), just ask.

Not interested in a Mock Serpentine Draft when it comes to Dynasty, but if you get the steam to do a Dynasty Mock Auction, shoot me a PM, and I'll not only be the first to sign up, but I'll bet I can recruit you around a 1/2 dozen high-acumen fellers from around these parts, who'd be glad to participate as well, maybe more if there's no IDP.

If you want to do Dynasty right, you have to consider disbursing the Players through an Auction. Plenty of folks who's agree that it's the optimal way to allow each Team to implement it's own unique strategy to building a Team for both short or long-term success, with every Owner having access to every Player dependent on how much of one's budget one is willing to allocate to each Player, Position, etc...if you want to go this route, I'm on board!

As far as making a League out of it - I just can't do it. Over committed already...but one way to get something out of the exercise would be to make it an 'Analysis Draft', with a requirement that if you're going to participate, you have to commit to a write-up of some kind that would provide some worth to it all. There are folks here who absolutely LIVE for that kind of stuff, and I don't think you'd have much trouble finding enough to fill out a 12-Teamer.

Now this, I'm on board with. And I think there's something to be gained by mocking an auction, I for one haven't ever participated in an auction league from the start - although I have taken a couple over.One thing I'm not sure of though - can we do an auction on line here? I think we can, but it might get confusing. If we do it here, I'd limit the # of players anyone can initiate bidding on to 2 at a time. Probably a 12 hour clock from last bid to close? Could take all summer.

They have several types of drafts available(custom mock redraft & auctions), football and baseball. I did half a dozen baseball mocks earlier. If you're not a member, just register for an account, it's free. Pretty good site. You can make it a private mock with a time limit and roster size. Also IDP if you wish. Here's the link. After you finish the mock if you want to make it a league you can probably set it up on Fleaflicker.com. as Couchmanagers is strictly a draft site. The baseball mocks were great. Good graphics, able to queque players.
