Any updates on Keading? Last I heard he was expected to play (listed as "probable") but I also believe I read somewhere that Kris Brown is still on the roster. It makes me a little nervous that the team would burn 2 roster spots on a K if Keading were truly good to go. Any homers or those in the know care to chime in?

TIA

rotoworld is reporting one of the local beat writers is claiming gates will give it a try in pregame warmups and will likely play.........

Not sure what we can read into the signing of the TE. The fact is, if Gates gives is a go, everyone knows he may not last through the game, in which case they may carry one more TE than usual? Not rocket science here, for those with Gates and McMichael you wait and see. If Gates is active you play him and hope, if not, you go with Randy M.

Take note that the other TE, Kris Wilson is injured and questionable as well. This is likely part of the reason for the signing.
Ah, that does make me feel a bit better about the situation. I'm hoping they let us know his status for the evening early enough for me to squeeze McMichael in there.

In a move that could be as much about Kris Wilson's bad back as Antonio Gates' bad foot, the Chargers have signed tight end Kory Sperry off the practice squad in advance of tonight's game against the Denver Broncos.

Gates is questionable for tonight, though indications are that he will try to play. Wilson was limited Thursday and Friday and did not practice Saturday. He is also listed as questionable.

The Chargers released rookie outside linebacker Brandon Lang to make room for Sperry.

Sperry was signed to the practice squad prior to the season after being released by the Broncos. He spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, playing in eight games and making three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Here's a slightly different update from Acee at the UT.

Sperry, Brinkley active

By Kevin Acee

Monday, November 22, 2010 at 10:51 a.m.

The Chargers are raiding their practice squad to bolster their offense for tonight's game against the Denver Broncos.

In addition to signing tight end Kory Sperry, the team added running back Curtis Brinkley today as a precaution since Ryan Mathews will be inactive with an ankle injury.

Brinkley, an undrafted rookie, was also active Sept. 26 in Seattle but did not touch the ball.

Sperry was signed perhaps as much to provide depth in case Kris Wilson can't play due to a bad back as the possibility Antonio Gates won't be able to go due to his foot injury.

Linebackers Brandon Lang and David Herron were released to make room on the roster.

Any further news on Kaeding? If he doesn't go, most leagues would still allow for a Kris Brown pickup and start.

According to Marty Caswell on XX 1090 reporting from the Q, Gates has yet to come out on the field to test the foot. Only player she's seen on the field is Robert Ayers. She also said Matthews is definitely out. Her report is as of 3:20 Pacific.

NFL Network is reporting that although Gates is Q, he is expected to go tonight. Dont know the reporters name but if you watch NFL Netork's "Around the League", she is reporting this every 15 minutes or so.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that "barring a major shift," Antonio Gates (foot) will miss Monday night's game.

"He's Gates, though, so don't rule it out," cautions Acee. The Monday Night Football inactives should be available within the next 45 minutes. It appears Gates still is going to give it a go in pregame warmups, but that he is not optimistic. Randy McMichael is next up on the depth chart.

No news on Kaeding?
Phew. CBS: "Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding (right groin) is active and starting for San Diego in the Week 11 Monday night game against Denver. Kaeding has not played since Week 6 but went through a full week of practice leading up to the Monday night contest."Already kicking myself {pun} for dropping Cundiff in his matchup vs the Panthers.

Answering my own question, I am at the game. Kaeding is warming up just kicked a 52 yarder with plenty of clearance. He looks good to go!

Thanks, and to the others that replied as well. Gotta be confident in him if Brown is inactive.

Very interesting strategy by Norv Turner--Kris Brown is listed as the emergency 3rd QB, meaning he can kick in the 4th quarter or OT if Kaeding gets hurt.

Brown won't play in the first three quarters regardless of what happens with Kaeding, because that would make both Rivers and Volek ineligible for the rest of the game.
