Most Versatile Cheese (1 Viewer)

The government has mandated that you only get to eat one kind of cheese until you die in the Cheese Act of 2021. This will be the only cheese you can eat as a snack, with burgers, sandwiches, pizza, etc.

Which cheese do you select knowing it will be the only cheese you ever get to eat under any circumstance til death?

I'd vote mozzarella - It can be snacked on, used in sandwiches, pizza, chic/veal/shrimp parm, and in a pinch maybe even a burger.

Mozzarella is just fine on a burger and the only realistic choice here. Not giving up pizza or eating it with some other weird-### cheese.

Has to be cheddar. Better in pizza than mozzarella (sorry, fc) as it actually has taste and mozzarella mostly just has the stretchy quality. It can go in sandwiches, burgers, omelets, snacks.

No question in my mind.

I agree with this... I see parmesan listed above, and while I'd miss it very much, it just isn't versatile enough.

You guys aren't thinking deep enough. If all you're doing with cheese is slapping a piece on your burger or breading it and frying it then you're missing out.

That shredded mozzarella isn't good but when you are talking about the real deal, give me fresh mozzarella (preferably buffalo mozzy) I'm not a fan of the oily cheddar I see on some pizza

That's because all you ever see is it ground up in a shaker. Try making a good pesto with mozzarella. You could drown your pasta dish in gobs of mozzarella, but I'll take the subtly of some shredded parm. Shave it and it will work on a burger and give you way more flavor.

Love parmesan but never thought of shredding it on a burger. :mindblown:

I eat parmesan by the brick load... Literally, I'll just buy a chunk, slice, and eat... Prob my favorite cheese, but not versatile enough to be my only cheese.

Mozz can do almost anything in the cheese world.

The government can limit my cheese choices only after they pry the gun out of my cold, dead, hands. Tax me to death, regulate where I can smoke and how I can recreate, but keep your ### ####ed hands off of my cheese.

If we say cheddar, are we still allowed to use sharp cheddars and mild cheddars for different things, or do we have to pick exactly one type of cheddar? Ditto for other cheeses.

I say that limiting cheese selection is taking away my freedom of expression.

To the barrycades. Revolution!!!!!!!

Pizza/Italian food in general really is the x factor here.

If it weren't for that, my choice would be pepper jack. As the question stands, I have no choice but to go with mozzarella.

Agreed. I could probably adjust at some point and use cheddar like on a cheesesteak pizza but at that point, to me, it's really not pizza.

Parmesan is an intriguing option because a good grandma slice with a heavy sauce and a dusting of parm can be great. But if that's it? No thanks. I'd find parmesan in other forms to be too overpowering if it's all I could have.

Thanks to its enveloping aroma and exclusive taste, Parmigiano Reggiano is an irreplaceable element in the kitchen where it enhances the flavour, taste and aroma of soups, it enriches many meat courses, it embellishes salads, it accompanies aperitifs, fresh and dry fruit, and nuts. Parmigiano Reggiano is therefore a complete and essential food, it is the tastiest answer to a balanced and functional diet in today’s lifestyles, where physical wellbeing, vitality and dynamism are key.

Is this a quote from Giada?

Anyone from MA remember Ruggles Pizza in Boston?

They were great 'British' style pizza restaurants using cheddar instead of mozzarella.

May just be fond memory, but they were delicious.

Occasionally, when I'm too lazy to cook, I'll get a frozen pizza. And I always add some shredded cheddar on top. Love it.

if you seriously answer American, there is something broken with you. worst cheese ever created. its basically congealed cheese whiz. americans have invented some great stuff, but cheese is not one of them.

I'll be contrarian and say blue cheese \ gorgonzola. I've sprinkled it on pizza, salads, and pasta. Goes great on burgers, sandwiches, and with chicken wings. I'll eat it plain as well.

Beaufort (bo-four) by far. Easily the best and most versatile chesse I've encountered. It melts easily and is therefore a staple in fondue. It is similar to swiss but much tastiter IMO. Also similar to Gruyère but again, Beaufort is tastier and a little stronger. If I could choose only one chesse for the rest of my existance, it would be Beaufort but sadly, it's difficult to find in here. Even in Paris, finding the best Beaufort can be challenging. I highly recommend trying it should you ever find it.
