I haven't seen the following:

2008/I W.
1997 U Turn
1981 The Hand
1979 Mad Man of Martinique (Short)
1974 Seizure
1971 Last Year in Viet Nam (Short)

1. What are your top 5 movies of his (again, keep it to five)

I liked Talk Radio, JFK, The Doors. Kinda liked Platoon, Salvador, NBK, 4th of July

2. How many of his movies have you seen?

All but the above.

3. Anything overrated/underrated that you see on the list?

Platoon and NBK are overrated, IMO- just too over the top. Talk Radio doesn't get as much mention when I hear people talking about Stone- not exactly subtle, and some ham-handed writing/acting for/by the lead Begosian.

1. What are your top 5 movies of his (again, keep it to five)

NBK, Born on the Fourth of July, U Turn, Platoon, Any Given Sunday (Guilty pleasure movie)

2. How many of his movies have you seen?

2008/I W.
1999 Any Given Sunday
1997 U Turn
1995 Nixon
1994 Natural Born Killers
1993 Heaven & Earth
1991 JFK
1989 Born on the Fourth of July
1987 Wall Street
1986 Platoon
So 10.

3. Anything overrated/underrated that you see on the list? Underrated - among the general public, NBK. Overrated - JFK was interesting but very dry.

4. Is there anything that you can point to that he does well or the opposite - doesn't do well?

The visual styles in NBK were incredible. Can't do that for every movie, but surprised he hasn't done more of a sensual assault in other movies when fitting (with a slight exception in U-Turn)

5. Why did you give him the ranking that you did?

7 - Usually gives the viewer a lot to chew on. Have enjoyed most of his movies but only NBK appears in my Top 100.

Only a couple of his movies are noteworthy to me:

1. Salvador is my favorite. James Woods wore that role wonderfully.

2. NBK - some nice cinematography

3. Wall Street - fun movie. A bit dated.

4. Platoon - Morricone

The rest wouldn't keep me from changing the channel. Only one with some strong reviews here that I haven't watched is Talk Radio. I'll get on it.

Titanic.

Titanic won an Oscar, gentlemen. Oscar's go to who makes Hollywood the happiest. Oliver Stone's politics are right in line with the top brass of Hollywood, so they love him.
Titanic was a great blockbuster/romance movie. Not a movie I'll ever watch again, but I can still recognize it as a great movie for many people who are into that.
Titanic was a hit because it appealed to 11-14 year old girls who went and saw it 4x's in the theater.
Oh, yes, the incredible spending power of 11-14 year old girls made it the highest grossing movie of all-time. That caused the academy to nominate it for 14 Oscars.

The Twilight Saga owned that demographic. How did it do in all-time box office and awards?

I get it, you hate Titanic. Most of us here don't like it either, but your arguments are nutty.

Stone has made a lot of movies I really really like (Wall Street, any given Sunday, savages) and a few that I really disliked because I found them to simply be bad movies (usually the political stuff like JFK and Nixon). Born on the fourth is a movie that I alrernately really like and really hate depending on my disposition at the time. All in all, I would say that I probably tend to like his movies most of the time.
