Mowing your Neighbor's Lawn (1 Viewer)

Sorry, this thread is not about pubic hair or any other euphemism.

I was walking around the neighborhood that one of my friends lives in. It's a typical suburb. Many of the houses share a front lawn that have the property border going right through it without a fence or any other indication of a border. In some of these cases, you could tell that one neighbor had recently mowed the lawn, and the other had not, creating a very noticeable ledge along the property border.

The question came up of whether or not you would just mow your neighbor's lawn to avoid the unattractive look of the "ledge" and since it would only take a couple of minutes anyway (these are not large front yards at all).

I can see it both ways. On the one hand, it only takes a couple extra minutes to mow the entire lawn, making it all look nice. On the other hand, mowing your neighbors side of the lawn sends the message to your neighbor that he never has to mow his, because you're just going to do it for him.

Anyone in this kind of situation? I'm torn on what I would do.

If he asked....... yes.......but otherwise absolutely not.....This would be similar to invading a neighboring country. You just don't do it.

Only if they are old folks and even then ask first. It isn't your property stay off without an invitation.

I wouldn't be worried about him thinking you were going to do it. I would be worried about sending the message that he doesn't do it often enough so you have to do it for him.

I have a neighbor who is very particular about his lawn. He mows at a snail's pace, making sure that the "lines" in the grass from the wheels of his walk-behind mower are straight. It takes me an hour to mow my lawn. It takes him two and a half. I would never venture over.

I don't see a problem, as long as it's discussed and neither of you care.

A friend & me did once this a few summers ago. Had the place looking great, but a few days later found out we did his neighbors lawn by mistake.

One of my neighbors takes much care of his lawn and I'd hate to mess it up. I pull the blade up if I have to cross over for any reason. The other two don't give a damn. The hell with their lawns.

I've done it a few times. The leaves from her yard blow into my yard, so I'll do a quick once over to suck up the leaves that'll end up on my lawn anyway.

every single time. We talked about and agreed as far as i remember.

there's about a 1-2 foot section next to his driveway, while my section is ~10 feet wide. Would look stupid if I mowed everything but that little piece. If grass is long because I was out of town, he will mow a strip. I promptly cut it again whenever I do my yard.

My neighbor builds developmental aircraft and crashed one of them, so while he was in the hospital recovering I took care of his lawn weekly. I guess it depends on your relationship with your neighbor because if my neighbor on the other side had it happen, his yard would be a swamp/forest...

Where would your mowing end? You would need to mow every lawn that borders yours and then do you keep going or is that enough?

One of my neighbors and I share a small strip between our houses in the front and side (back is fenced in so no sharing). Only about 6 swipes of the mower and 4 of them are on my property. When either of us mow, we just do the whole area instead of leaving a small little uneven area. Other than that though, I am not mowing another half acre.

Just mowed my lawn an hour ago. Didn't do the neighbors section, which isnt very big. Hard to see in this pic but his from the street its really noticeable. He never does mine so I don't do his.

Why is there a car parked on the lawn?

Because their teenage daughter always has someone over and only have a single car driveway, so the dad parks his car there sometimes.
