This list is the giganutsI could just list all the '80s songs I took in the jukebox draft but that would be boring. So only repeating the obligatory Neil song.
Neil Young -- Rockin' in the Free World (1989)
Talking Heads -- This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) (1982)
Wham! -- Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (1984)
Paul McCartney -- Coming Up (Live) (1980)
REM -- So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry) (1984)
Phish -- David Bowie (1988)
Sade -- The Sweetest Taboo (1985)
The Jam -- Beat Surrender (1982)
Guns 'N Roses -- Mr. Brownstone (1987)
Robert Cray -- Smoking Gun (1986)
Regarding this list. I grew up in Boston. Extreme plays into all lists. I thought they were super talented and deserve a spot at the top of any rock list. I'm being indulgent, I know, but Extreme was a big part of my lifeAndrewClark said:Day 2 Of This Project -
TOP 10 POWER BALLADS
10. Def Leppard - Love Bites (If I didnt cave to modern day playlists, this would be 1) (also...what has 9 arms and sucks?)
9. Motley Crue - Without You (come on dude ok this one was my indulgence pick)
8. Heart - Alone (come on)
7. Ozzy Osbourne w Lita Ford - If I Close My Eyes Forever (if this not in your top 10 I dont want to know you)
6. Saigon Kick - Love Is On The Way (This was the singer from Tesla and I forget where the guitarist came from but this deserves a power ballad nod)
5. Cinderella - Don't Know What You Got Til It's Gone
4. Metallica - Nothing Else Matters - This is a stretch to call a Power Ballad but I would have it one if it was even debatable
3. Steve Perry - Oh Sherrie (Could also be yacht rock)
2. Guns N Roses - Patience (I dont feel bad about this one, could easily be 1)
1. Extreme - Wholehearted (this is going to be EXTREME-ly controversial but I think it encapsulates a power ballad)
I missed a ton and I misordered even these 10 - this is where I want discussion - your own 10 that I missed. I will keep the original post open and edited with all lists. Love to all. Im a pianist and singer so I def favor the piano ballads.
I was never a big fan of Extreme, although I will agree they were very talented - especially Nuno Bettencourt, who was as good as anyone on the scene.Regarding this list. I grew up in Boston. How have I never seen this? This is seriously upper super elite tierDamn zam. That link is amazing
Well I know what I'm doing today. Keep going. This is a thread for musical masturbation. Here's ten to start...then you can tell me if I should keep going.
Cool Places - Jane Wiedlin & Sparks
(Here's a surprisingly good live version)
New Church - Lords of the New Church
For punk rock fans. Lord's Prayer is good too, but you can't find that on Spotify for some reason.
Reptile - The Church
Along with Under The Milky Way, they had two of the 80's best songs...but that was about it
Chamber of Hellos - Wire Train
I also really like Everything's Turning Up Down Again and Last Perfect Thing
Wild Horses - Gino Vannelli
See also, Black Cars
Information - Dave Edmunds
See also, Slippin' Away
Twist of Fate - Olivia Newton John
See also, Heart Attack and Make A Move On Me
Everywhere I Go - The Call
The bass line on this song is just the BEST.
Veronica - Elvis Costello
A sad, but very heartfelt song.
Cathouse - Danielle Dax
Because it's obscure, has a boss saxophone line, and rocks!
All I see is a guy with a rainbow fist avatar talking about musical masturbation.Uh, WTF is goin on in here?![]()
One of my favorite Sir Paul solo'sI could just list all the '80s songs I took in the jukebox draft but that would be boring. So only repeating the obligatory Neil song.
Paul McCartney -- Coming Up (Live) (1980)
We're waiting to see where @krista4 ranks it in her solo Beatles countdown. One of my favorite Sir Paul solo's
Released on the very first day of the '80s!Random ‘80s From iTunes Shuffle:
(6) Rush - “Spirit Of Radio”
Love this. And while I'm not a big Springsteen fan, this is a good cover of Don't Change by INXS.
To be continued...
Love this one - I think it's her best vocal performance.
See above. Got sick coming off of some medication (SSRI withdrawals).Andrew what happened
Let's not and say we did. Also would I get banned for renaming this the "Musical Masturbation Thread"?
Hope you are feeling better! It was not at all a critique, just missed your thread!See above. Got sick coming off of some medication (SSRI withdrawals).
Yes you wouldAlso would I get banned for renaming this the "Musical Masturbation Thread"?
worse than disco?I consider Hair Bands from the late 80's to be the low point in music of the last 70 years. But nearly every one of those bands had at least one really good ballad.
I love discoworse than disco?
(rhetorical, like asking worse than Hitler)
