The Best February Mock Draft In The History Of The World, Ever.

Friday, February 17, 2006 2:49a.m. EST

M.L. Brandow, Freelance Columnist

So here we are in February and the "Oh my mock is the winner and I'm going to make all these cool trades in my mock because they sound cool and I did them in Madden" mock drafts are starting to leak out. Let me start by saying: don't ever propose big and crazy draft trades before the Combine at least. Please.... And I read a full seven round mock draft online on some website last night, and I just smacked my forehead. Honestly.... what the..... I don't even.... why? And all the.... just wow.

It's Round 2 of the Mockin', and I know one thing for a fact: the Jay Cutler Juice is starting to wear off on me. I mean seriously, I think it is. It's getting old seeing him to go to Miami, and I think it was just more than anything funny seeing him over Vince Young in my last mock. I went to www.jaycutler.com, and it just seems like all this draft hype is just getting to his head. The Legendary Vanderbilt Quarterback has a very over-inflated view of himself nowadays.

Alas, I present to you a Mock Draft not holy enough for thou, Jay Cutler. And the Lord said Yay:

1. Houston Texans - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT Virginia

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DE, OG, MLB, OT, WR // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $5M Under

I don't think you could sell me on the Kubiak and co. spending the top overall pick on Reggie Bush when they've already got RB Domanick Davis (who was on pace for over 2000 yards from scrimmage last year), and pro bowl return man Jerome Mathis. Ferguson fills a dire need position here for the Texans and presents the most value for them if they aren't able to trade the pick, which isn't very likely to happen now that they've opted to pick up David Carr's $8M option bonus. Ideally, the Texans would like to swap with New Orleans or perhaps trade with Tennessee to still secure Ferguson and not have to pay him an entire king's ransom.

Other Options: Trade Down, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Vince Young

2. New Orleans Saints - Matt Leinart, QB USC

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OLB, QB, DT, TE, RB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $10M Under

It's safe to say that New Orleans will be taking a Quarterback here: Matt Leinart. This offense is well-built and possesses everything needed for a young pocket passer to come in and succeed. Leinart is the most NFL ready of the draft class, and unlike his yang Vince Young, does not need to ride the pine for the next two years to develop his skills on a pro level. Leinart will be the clear-cut starter from Day one, and provide (if not wins) at least something for the Saints fans to look forward to.

Other Options: AJ Hawk, Vince Young, Trade Down, Reggie Bush

3. Tennessee Titans - Vince Young, QB Texas

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: MLB, OC, DS, OT, QB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $10M Over

During Senior Bowl week you might have been able to convince me that the Jay Cutler would go to the Saints--I think everybody started drinking the Cutler Kool-Aid that week. But the buzz has started wearing off on me. While Norm Chow and the gang got to spend an entire week with the legendary Vanderbilt QB, the reality is that Vince Young is the guy that the Titans want if Leinart is indeed gone, which he is here. Young is a leader, and comes in to a team where he can get exactly what he needs to succeed in the NFL, a chance to sit on the bench for the next year, or possibly two years, and really get his mechanics and mind adjusted to the pro level. Since the Titans will still be in Cap Purgatory next year, it's likely that you will see a litle bit of Vince Young late in games that aren't winnable next season, but don't expect to see any significant playing time until at least the 2007 season.

Other Options: Trade Up, Jay Cutler, Trade Down, Winston Justice

4. New York Jets - Reggie Bush, RB USC

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: RB, QB, OT, DC, OG/OC // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $29M Over

Not having to trade up to still land arguably the best player in the draft? Priceless. While the Texans will continue to try and get the Jets to bite on the Reggie Bush Sweepstakes, Mangini and co. will play hardball--and win. A great situation for a team that's going to lay eggs for the next few years or so. Coincidently, when they finally get the cap under control, Mangini gets the players he wants, and Reggie Bush comes into his prime, the Jets will have a nice new stadium on the West Side of Manhattan to play in. Maybe Chad Pennington will be ready to play by then.

Other Options: Trade Up, DeAngelo Williams, Jay Cutler, Winston Justice

5. Green Bay Packers - AJ Hawk, OLB Ohio State

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OG, OLB, DS, DE, OC // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $22M Under

Simply put: the Packers need an outside linebacker. Sure, a running back would be a solid pick here with Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport are both unrestricted free agents, but there is a good amount of depth at RB both in the draft and in free agency. This is a chance for a team with a huge hole to fill to be able to do so with a game-changing LB who can anchor this defense and start to give it an identity Cheeseheads won't associate with rotten Limburger. This linebacking corps has seen only one pro bowl in the last 28 years (Tim Harris 1989).

Other Options: Mario Williams, DeAngelo Williams, LenDale White, Trade Down

6. Oakland Raiders* - Mario Williams, DE N.C. State

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OG, OLB, DT, DC, RB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $30M Over

The Raiders will continue to get younger and meaner on defense with this pick. A dominating Defensive End with an attitude problem? Couldn't pencil this pick in any easier. The next Courtney Brown or the next Julius Peppers? While the Raiders aren't getting any younger at Defensive Tackle (NT Todd Washington is entering in his 15th year and UT Warren Sapp in his 12th), pairing the 2005 Sack Champion in Derrick Burgess with this monster will generate about 30 sacks a year for the next decade. As evidenced by the Giants' and Panthers' DEs last season, you don't need anything special at DT to make a mess of the opposing Quarterback.

Other Options: Haloti Ngata, Jimmy Williams, Trade Down, DeAngelo Williams

7. San Francisco 49ers* - Michael Huff, S Texas

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OLB, DC, WR, FS, MLB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $18M Under

Whatever your favorite position on defense is, the 49ers have a big need. Thanks to some of the stingiest ownership in NFL History over the past few seasons, the 49ers are not only out of their salary cap problems, they're almost into the CFL in terms of talent level at some positions. While any defensive pick here would be solid, Huff is the best safety in this draft and can help shore up a secondary that has a slew of players that are Defensive Back 'tweeners. Just how bad was the 49ers' secondary last year? If you took all of the pass defenses of the past decade, the 2005 49ers would rank 311th (that's last place). In fact, just for kicks... can you name the last team to have fewer than 2,000 yards passing in a single season?

Other Options: Jimmy Williams, Chad Greenway, DeMeco Ryans, DeAngelo Williams

*-subject to coin clip

8. Buffalo Bills - Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DT, DC, OC, DS, OT // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $10M Under

Need Run-Stoppage? Enter 338 pounds of Two-Gap Offensive-Lineman-Eating Haloti Ngata. If he's here, he's definitely going to be a Bill. Everyone and their mother is saying this, and the only way they don't get him is if the Raiders take him. While the Bills' Quarterback situation is also far from settled, and it seems like JP Losman has somehow manages to piss off every media member, fan, teammate, coach and personnel executive in a 200-mile radius in just one short year. But reaching on a QB in the first round two years in a row? Doesn't sound very plausible. This has nothing to do with the draft, but don't you just feel bad for Takeo Spikes? I mean jeez...

Other Options: Winston Justice, Jay Cutler, Jimmy Williams, Trade Down

9. Detroit Lions - Tamba Hali, DE Penn State

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: QB, ILB, OT, DC, DE // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $9M Under

Okay, so the Santonio Holmes jokes are getting old, and probably not very funny to begin with unless you're Matt Millen. New Head Coach Rod Marinelli is going to want to stack that Defensive Line, and knows full well what building a Tampa-2 defense is going to entail. Hali will probably be paired with Shaun Cody or Kalimba Edwards (if Cody moves inside). Rest assured though, this will be one of the better Defensive Lines in the game by the year's end. While Millen, fresh from reading up on the latest Senior Bowl news probably wants to draft the legendary Vanderbilt Quarterback Jay Cutler here, Marinelli has a very strong personality that should be able to change Millen's mind. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that if Cutler were picked here, Millen would be fired before training camp. Maybe it'll be his last laugh.

Other Options: Jay Cutler, Jimmy Williams, Winston Justice, Trade Down

10. Arizona Cardinals - Brodrick Bunkley, DT Florida State

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: SS, RB, QB, WLB, OT // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $30M Under

LenDale in Glen.... what? While addressing RB with the 10th pick would be an easy write-off in the land of mock-draftdom, Denny Green already has his solution: Michael Bennett. Remember way back in 2001 when the Denny Green-led Vikings picked up Michael Bennett in the first round to be their super shifty outside runner? Well, in 2006, the Denny Green-led Cardinals are going to pick up Michael Bennett in free agency to be their super shifty outside runner. This defense lacks an inside pass rush, and Bunkley will complete a front four on the Cardinals that will be good enough to mask the deficiencies in the middle and secondary and really give this Cardinals team a chance to compete in the NFC. He'll also join his former FSU teammate in DT Darnell Dockett.

Other Options: DeAngelo Williams, Chad Greenway, Winston Justice, Vernon Davis

11. St. Louis Rams - Jimmy Williams, CB Virginia Tech

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DT, DC, WLB, OG/OC, MLB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $16M Under

Outside of being the consensus top Cornerback in the draft, Williams still plays with the hard-hitting physical mentality he had as a safety early in his football career. He can come in and star immeidately opposite one of my favorite sleepers last year in Ronald Bartell, Jr, and in a couple years, the Rams may be sporting the best pair of lockdown corners in the NFL. The Rams probably will start him at CB initially because of the greater need there, but if he struggles, they may move him over to free safety, where some draft scouts say he is more suited at the pro level. In either case, he's a big upgrade for a team that will need some major secondary help since most of their games in 2006 look to be shootouts.

Other Options: Chad Greenway, Vernon Davis, Trade Down, DeMeco Ryans

12. Cleveland Browns - Manny Lawson, DE N.C. State

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OLB, NT, DE, OT, OG // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $31M Under

Anyone remember how the Browns were all over last year's workout warrior, Shawne Merriman? Welcome to the new land of hybrid defenders. Crennel needs more playmakers on defense across the board, but namely OLB. Adding Lawson, who is maybe the most physically gifted defender in this draft. At 6'6 and running a 4.5 with a 45" vertical jump, if Lawson can put on about 10-15 football pounds for the combine, Crennel might mess himself. Don't be surprised if you see another OLB go to the Browns on Day 1.

Other Options: Trade Down, Chad Greenway, DeMeco Ryans, Mathias Kiwanuka

13. Baltimore Ravens - Winston Justice, OT USC

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DS, ROT, ILB, DT, RB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $15M Under

Justice can come in and fill a big need from Day one at Right Tackle, and be groomed to eventually replace Jonathan Ogden at Left Tackle. While Running Back remains a concern for the Ravens, the smart money is on them re-signing Jamal Lewis after he tests the open market. There's a good chance that they address RB on the first day, but it likely won't be until the third round, as there is a good crop of safeties sure to be available when the Ravens pick again in the 2nd round. There are other questions on defense, namely whether that 46 defense will actually catch on or not, but the more important question is who is going to protect Kyle Boller's strongside? I mean who wants to see him break another body part in the first week of the season? If there were more Pro-Kyle Boller people like me, this world would be a better place.

Other Options: Marcus McNeill, Trade Down, Darnell Bing, LenDale White

14. Philadelphia Eagles - Chad Greenway, OLB Iowa

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OT, OLB, WR, DT, TE // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $7M Under

With 10-year veteran ORT Jon Runyan headed out via free agency and OLT Tra Thomas going into his 9th year, the Eagles suddenly have a need at what has been probably their most stable position over the Andy Reid reign. When your star offensive players all go down with season-ending injuries, it's time to upgrade. There is a very good chance that the Eagles can strike a deal with the Browns and leapfrog the Ravens to grab Winston Justice, which the Browns would love, because they can still land the guy they want and screw over their division rival and pick up an extra 4th rounder, which the Philadelphia Eagles conveniently have (two extra, actually). But there's no trading in Februady mock drafts! So, we'll just put Chad Greenway here. The Eagles could use an upgrade at OLB, and although Greenway might not start immediately over incumbent Dhani Jones, he is likely to provide some help on the Strong Side. And with a motor as high as Greenway's and Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson's knack for suicide blitzing every 3 plays, there would certainly be a love connection here early on.

Other Options: Trade Up, DeMeco Ryans, Santonio Holmes, Vernon Davis

15. Atlanta Falcons - DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DS, OT, OG, DC, DE // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $10M Under

While Safety and Offensive Tackle are need positions for this team, neither presents a good value and/or fit here and the depth at both positions is deep enough to address later on Day 1. While Duckett finds himself on the trading block this offseason and incumbent RB Warrick Dunn nearing the end of his career, DeAngelo Williams would simply be too good to pass up at this point. Being that the running game is so pivotal in the success of the Falcons, this team is really only a few injuries away from being in the same position as the Jets were last year. Naysayers will point to Dunn's career numbers last season, and then the smart ones will point right back at Curtis Martin's career numbers in 2004. This team just can't afford to have any drop off at RB, and with Duckett likely on his way out (and there have been scant rumors of Dunn as well), suddenly picking up a game-changing all-purpose back like Williams doesn't seem so off base.

Other Options: Trade Down, Vernon Davis, Antonio Cromartie, Eric Winston

16. Miami Dolphins - Marcus McNeill, OT Auburn

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: QB, LOT, DC, OLB, WR // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $5M Over

Ronnie Brown is ecstatic to get his former teammate on the next level, and even happier that Saban didn't bite on the legendary Vanderbilt Quarterback Jay Cutler, like every draftnick this side of sports town has predicted since his godlike 6-for-19 Senior Bowl performance. McNeill's measurables are absolutely off the chart in terms of size and speed, and will tremendously upgrade the offensive line for the Dolphins. Should Chad Greenway fall to 16, Saban might have a bit of a debate on his hands.

Other Options: Jay Cutler, Antonio Cromartie, DeMeco Ryans, Santonio Holmes

17. Minnesota Vikings - LenDale White, RB USC

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: RB, OLB, ILB, SS, OG // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $24M Under

"LenDale In MinnesotaDale!" Remember that RBs Michael Bennett and Moe Williams are Unrestricted Free Agents and the WZ Onterrio Smith (that's Whizzinator) are not likely to return. And for all the hype and holler about the other members of the "Not As Good As Reggie Bush But Still Pretty Good Running Backs" Club, White runs the same 40 time (4.50) as fellow first round prospects DeAngelo Williams and Laurence Maroney--and White is carrying an extra 30 pounds of bruising bulldozerness. The combination of White and Ciatrick Fason present the thunder and lightning combination that was never fully realized by Childress in Philadelphia. Add to that Change of Pace back Mewelde Moore, and this may be the top rushing offenses for years to come.

Other Options: Laurence Maroney, DeMeco Ryans, Trade Down, Darnell Bing

18. Dallas Cowboys - Santonio Holmes, WR Ohio State

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OT, FS, OG, WR, QB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $2M Over

You'd have to be crazy to believe Bill Parcells and Jerry Jones would select an offensive lineman with this pick. Parcells is in Super Bowl-or-Bust mode this year, and no matter what happens, he's probably gone after this season. The last thing he wants is to draft a player likely to struggle his rookie year. Look for them to try to squeeze the last bit of NFL life out of Drew Bledsoe by giving him another first round receiver. A quick look down memory lane reveals a key stat: Bill Parcells doesn't believe in the 3-year rule for Receivers. Terry Glenn was drafted in 1996 in the last year of Parcells' stint on the Patriots and immediately put up 1132 yards and 6 TDs en route to a Super Bowl birth. Expect this logic to prevail again this time around in Parcells' last stint as an NFL coach (except maybe the Super Bowl birth part....)

Other Options: Chad Jackson, Trade Down, Darnell Bing, Ko Simpson

19. San Diego Chargers - Antonio Cromartie, CB Florida St.

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, OT, OG, DS, DC // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $21M Under

The Chargers are in a little bit of a pickle here. If there's a run on the top three tackles, they aren't going to want to reach on a second round prospect with the 19th pick. At that, there is a great likelihood that they use this pick to shore up the secondary. San Diego is really a tough team to judge at this point, because it seems like they really want that blue-chip Offensive Tackle, but if they feel Ferguson, Justice and McNeill might be gone, they may be aggressive and move up. They have the cap room, the gutsy GM and all the necessary ammunition to really shake up the draft board and get whoever they want. Heck, I've even read a draft scenario where the Chargers get Reggie Bush. With their recent history of drafting DBs that haven't yet lived up to their potential, consider this the "last straw." If Cromartie can't come in and be that lockdown corner they've been looking for, and CBs Quentin Jammer/Jamar Fletcher don't start living up to their potential, you'll likely see them spending some serious money on free agents to solidify the secondary. At that, this could really be the year that the secondary comes together and a game-changer like Cromartie might be able to spark some life into a flat-lining secondary.

Other Options: Trade Up, Trade Down, Chad Jackson, Ko Simpson

20. Kansas City Chiefs - Claude Wroten, DT LSU

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, DC, DT, DE, QB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $22M Over.

As their cap situation indicates, the Chiefs will be massaging every bit of cap room they have to gear up for one last final last run at a championship before entering into rebuilding mode. Key veterans on this team like Left Tackle Willie Roaf, Right Guard Will Shields, Fullback Tony Richardson, perhaps even Quarterback Trent Green may be going into their last seasons. The age on this team is about to be a major factor, and this year is Ring or Rebuild. Wroten is an underrated prospect that will give the Chiefs the interior pass-rush they need to give their LBs more freedom to move around get the job done--look what Chris Hovan did for Shelton Quarles this season. Regardless of who the Chiefs take here, look for it to be a player that can immediately make plays and contribute heavily to the team's last run at a Super Bowl Title for probably a while.

Other Options: Mathias Kiwanuka, Sinorice Moss, Vernon Davis, Darnell Bing

21. New England Patriots - DeMeco Ryans, OLB Alabama

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DC, LB, SS, RB, QB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: Even

The Patriots naturally need playmaking Linebackers to make their defense run (remember when Tedy Bruschi came back from injury?). Ryans is a general on the field and a leader in the locker room. Supposing Bruschi won't be around forever, Ryans could be groomed to replace him in a few years. If this isn't isn't a Bill Belichick player, then I suppose he'll take someone else--honestly, we might as well just leave a New England-sized hole in our mocks, because this is the most impossible franchise to read. How many of you saw Corey Dillon to the Pats? How many saw Logan Mankins in the first round? These guys are nuts. I'm just going to concede defeat and quit speculating. Still, Ryans would be a solid addition to a linebacking corps that could always use more playmakers.

Other Options: Sinorice Moss, Trade Down, Tye Hill, Bobby Carpenter

22. Denver Broncos (f/WAS) - Vernon Davis, TE Maryland

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, OG/OC, TE, DT, DS // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $26M Over

This Broncos team is about to be in a world of hurt in 2007. I have to admit, after last year's Shanahan Shenanigans, I didn't see this team as a .500 ballclub, let alone an AFC Championship team. That said, you have to wonder whether the Coach/GM will make a few more wild picks, or whether he's going to make smart decisions. I suppose it's part of a show of his skill as a coach that he can deal with such a terrible GM and still compete for Super Bowls on a consistent basis, but at that, I'm just not sure what the hell he's thinking or planning on doing with two first-round picks and so little room to maneuver. Vernon Davis is probably the best player available at this point, and giving Quarterback Jake Plummer another offensive weapon would be a good idea. There are a lot of almost-needs across the board for the Broncos, positions that aren't needs now that will probably be big needs next year, but at that, I believe this team is still in Super Bowl or Bust mode, so landing a Tight End like Davis that could potentially be a No.2 receiver for this team next year would be very solid.

Other Options: Nick Mangold, Laurence Maroney, Sinorice Moss, Gabe Watson

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sinorice Moss, WR Miami (FL)

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, OT, DE, DC, DT // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $8M Over

If it wasn't blatantly evident that the deep threat is key to the success of the West Coast Offense that Gruden runs, it will be when Joey Galloway slows down, if there's no one to take his place. Moss has all of the intangibles in leadership, smarts, etc etc that you can trace through all of the good blue-chip players on the Bucs over the last few years. Recent guys like Michael Clayton, Barrett Ruud, Carnell Williams, Alex Smith all have those same intangibles. While people knock his size, he's only a few NFL pounds lighter than Steve Smith or his older brother Santana. And NFL scouts all agree that his speed will translate to the next level. While many mocks will have the Bucs drafting a Tackle, truthbetold, it's just not a need that can't be addressed in the later few rounds. Although Galloway had a career year last year in terms of Yards (1287), catches (83), first downs (57) and catches of 20+ yards (19), just like Curtis Martin had a career year last season.... when it goes, it goes fast. When age does catch up, Galloway won't be much use, and if in 2006, his 12th year, he doesn't start to decline, rest assured he will in either his 13th or 14th, when Sinorice Moss emerges as that next big-play deep threat for the Buccaneers.

Other Options: Ernie Sims, Davin Joseph, Mathias Kiwanuka, Tye Hill

24. Cincinnati Bengals - Gabe Watson, DT Michigan

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DT, DS, TE, DE, DC // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $16M Under

Defense first. More offensive weapons would be very tempting here with a slew of playmakers still on the board, but the Bengals need to change their defensive philosophy from "let's try to not let them score so fast this time so our offense can rest" to "let's play defense." That all starts along the trenches, and the interior line needs some help. Add 330-pound Watson in and Odell Thurman might be the happiest Middle Linebacker in the NFL next year (and, of course, his corresponding IDP owners). Certainly this team will need to play some defense early on with Quarterback Carson Palmer's health still in question, and the invariable departure of sure-handed veteran backup Jon Kitna. Also, expect the Bengals to definitely land one of those six upper-echelon Tight Ends in this draft with either of their first two picks, because we all know when Palmer gets healthy, he's going to be pissed off and Rambo-ing for a playoff berth, so he can't have enough weapons.

Other Options: Leonard Pope, Ko Simpson, Mercedes Lewis, Darnell Bing

25. New York Giants - Tye Hill, CB Clemson

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DC, WR, OT, OLB, FS // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $3M Over

If the Giants don't pick a Defensive Back here, I'll donate $1,234,458 to the Michael Strahan for President fund. Did anyone else spend their New Year's Eve watching in Hi-Def as Raiders Quarterback Kerry Collins was still able to pass the ball effortlessly (ambiguous) late in the game, when the Giants had SEVENTEEN DEFENSIVE BACKS ON THE FIELD! Seriously, I think they had three or four DBs for every Moss and Porter that the Raiders had. And they still couldn't even break up a pass. A lot of people say that the Giants need linebackers, but until they get a cornerback who can play cornerback, it doesn't matter if there are five linebackers or -1 (like they did in the 4th Quarter in that game).

Other Options: Ashton Youboty, Darnell Bing, Donte Whitner, Jonathan Joseph

26. Chicago Bears - Leonard Pope, TE Georgia

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: DC, TE, FS, OT, SLB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $17M Under

This might be a bit of a stretch for the computationally-impaired, but ponder this: 11 of the bottom 12 scoring offenses in the league are picking in the top 13 in this year's draft. The lone outlier? Da Bears and their 26th ranked offense. It took what was one of the best single-season defensive performances ever to even put this team in position to win ball games. Expect that to change very soon. Add Pope and the pencil-in acquisition of pending Steelers Free Agent Wide Receiver Antwan Randel El, and this may be one hell of an almost-Offense next year. I just wish they'd let Cedric Benson run the football more.

Other Options: Ashton Youboty, Mercedes Lewis, Eric Winston, Darnell Bing

27. Carolina Panthers - Mercedes Lewis, TE U.C.L.A.

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, RB, TE, QB, DT // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $1M Over

Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Mercedes Lewis Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith Steve Smith. Yeah, that pretty much sums up the 2006 season for the Carolina Panthers.

Other Options: Chad Jackson, Derek Hagan, Dominique Byrd, Jay Cutler

28. Jacksonville Jaguars - Ashton Youboty, CB Ohio St.

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: OLB, TE, DC, DE, OT // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $17M Under

Jacksonville fans might remember this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qVgYeXTBmwA&search=nfl ... Do you know what's changed since week 16 of 2003? Not enough. The Jaguars' amazing Defensive Line habitually masks the deficiencies of this secondary. Bringing in a potential lockdown Cornerback would be too good to pass up here for the Jaguars. Although there are arguably bigger needs elsewhere (Offensive Tackle namely), the Jags won't pass up an opportunity to land a player from a proven college pedigree of Pro Bowl caliber CBs.

Other Options: Mathias Kiwanuka, Eric Winston, Dominique Byrd, Mercedes Lewis

29. Denver Broncos - Nick Mangold, C Ohio St.

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, OG/OC, TE, DT, DS // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $26M Over

As aforementioned, it's going to be difficult for the Broncos to not make some hard salary cap cuts and contract restructures that will put them in even worse shape in 2007. Mangold is the prototype Bronco lineman, and incumbent Center Tom Nalen is entering in his 13th year. Some might see this as a reach, but if recent history is any indication, Shanahan isn't afraid to take a little gamble. Plus, this is arguably a luxury pick for the Broncos, so reaching a bit for a player that fits so perfectly into their offense would make sense.

Other Options: Chad Jackson, Davin Joseph, Derek Hagan, Ko Simpson

30. Indianapolis Colts - Joseph Addai, RB LSU

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, RB, OLB, OG, MLB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: Even

The only real need on this team is Running Back, since the departure of RB Edgerrin James is all but certain. Addai is listed at 214 lbs and 6'0. That's exactly the measurables listed on nfl.com for Edgerrin James. Addai has a lot more in common with Edge as far as running and receiving skill sets, and will benefit greatly from a 2006 Offense that is likely to be more pass-oriented while Quarterback Peyton Manning builds up a relationship with his new feature back. Nevertheless, this team otherwise can afford to just take the best player available, because they have depth issues at Linebacker and potentially along the Offensive Line.

Other Options: Charles Spencer, Davin Joseph, Ernie Sims, Chad Jackson

31. Seattle Seahawks - Ernie Sims, OLB Florida St.

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: FS, WR, OG, DE, RB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $21M Under

With the success of Middle Linebacker Lofa Tatupu and Weakside Linebacker LeRoy Hill, it only makes sense that the Seahawks draft the third and final piece to what will very soon be arguably the best LB corps in the NFL. Sims is a prototype Sam Backer, and when he adds a few pro football pounds is going to remind everyone of that nasty Derrick Johnson or D.J. Williams mentality. Certainly the potential loss of Left Guard Steve Hutchinson or star Running Back Shaun Alexander will impact this first round pick, but with the cap room to retain both and still make a splash in free agency (if they wanted), look for this to be more of a best player available pick, and they'll see Ernie Sims as the answer.

Other Options: Mathias Kiwanuka, Ko Simpson, Charles Spencer, Chad Jackson

32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Darnell Bing, S USC

Scouts Inc. Team Needs: WR, FS, DE, OG/OC, RB // AskTheCommish.com Salary Cap Status: $1M Under

You think this team can get enough of USC Safeties? I don't. Anyone heard the Troy Polamalu Song? If not, go do a google search for it. Anyway, Bing will replace UFA Chris Hope at worst, and at best beat the tar out of him for the starting job amidst his college hero, Superman.... err... Troy Polamalu. Although I don't think there are any nicknames yet, I'd bet you there are some clever dynamic-duo-esque names out there for the Safety pair by the end of next season.

Other Options: Charles Spencer, Chad Jackson, Derek Hagan, Mercedes Lewis

Forgive me Jay Cutler, for I have sinned.

Your comments about the Pats are right on. It's almost not worth wasting your time guessing what they will do because anything is possible. I follow them beyond closely and even have some friends in the media and am still amazed by how well they keep their secrets. They have pretty much perfected guarding their info...which ironically is the exact opposite of how the Red Sox do business.

One thing about the Pats...BB has only used two draft picks on LBs since he's been here. One on the immortal TJ Turner (a #7)) and one on Claridge last year. On the flipside O line was another position they didn't use a lot of picks on (only one 2002, 2003 and 2004) prior to last year because they had a lot of success digging guys out of nowhere like Neal, Andruzzi, Gorin, Hochstein and Ashworth. Yet, draft day comes and they use a #1 and #3 on O lineman proving once again that it's near impossible to project what they will actually do.

"You'd have to be crazy to believe Bill Parcells and Jerry Jones would select an offensive lineman with this pick. Parcells is in Super Bowl-or-Bust mode this year"You are spot-on with this part of your analysis. Dallas wants to win NOW. They aren't going to wait 2 or 3 years for a guy to develop.

"A quick look down memory lane reveals a key stat: Bill Parcells doesn't believe in the 3-year rule for Receivers. Terry Glenn was drafted in 1996 in the last year of Parcells' stint on the Patriots and immediately put up 1132 yards and 6 TDs en route to a Super Bowl birth. "

This is an instance where you may not be as aware of some elements of the story. Reportedly, Parcells was strongly against picking Glenn. The pick was forced upon him. This contributed to the Terry "She" Glenn comments.

Late this past season, in a press conference, Parcells talked about first round WRs and OT. He said that both were very risky picks with high bust rates. For every Larry Fitzgerald, there is a Charles Rogers. For every Orlando Pace, there is a Mike Williams. Now Parcells did not mention the busts by name like he did the successes, but its not hard to find busts at these positions.

Accordingly, I don't think Dallas goes WR (or OT) at 18. With Parcells as a head coach, the most frequent draft spots in the first round have been defensive front seven, as shown here Parcells Draft History. With that in mind, as well as the team needs, OLB or NT seem to be likely draft spots.

At OLB, the team needs a complement to Ware. Fujita is a serviceable guy but is far from being the explosive playmaker that Parcells covets. And with the retirement of Dat Nyugen and likely retirement of Al Singletary, Dallas is thin at LB.

Greenway, Carpenter, Lawson, and Wimbley fit the mold of 3-4 OLBs and are likely targets for Dallas.

At NT, Dallas has 30+ year old Jason Ferguson. Glover is likely to be traded, not to mention the fact that he is over 30 as well. The only other NT on the roster is converted DE, walkon free agent Thomas Johnson. "Little Pepper" is much better suited to being a nickle passrush DT than a space eater NT. So with only 1 legit NT on the roster, and he being over 30 years old, this is a likely draft spot.

Gabe Watson is a likely draft choice for Dallas. He was seen talking at length with Dallas at the Senior Bowl. As an aside, Ware talked at length with Dallas last year at the Senior Bowl.

Overall, it is generally easier for defensive front seven guys to make the transition from college to pros. Olinemen and WRs often take up to 3 years to catch on. Given the desire to win NOW, Parcells' draft history, and Dallas' team needs, OLB or NT seem the most likely draft spots for Dallas at #18.

All in all, I enjoyed reading your mock. Lots of good comments and thoughts.

No way they even think about trading UP - paying More for 1 player in their cap situation.... I think they will be DYING to trade down regardless of who is there at 4.The stadium deal is long dead - They will share a place with the Giants in NJ forever.

I like the D'Brickshaw pick for the Texans at #1. I think they will end up taking Bush, but when he is nicked up after 3-4 years of running, and Ferguson is in the pro bowl for the next 10-12 years and Carr is in a wheelchair, they will wish they went the other way....

Honestly.....nice mock. I just wanted to comment on your Cowboy selection, and give you my quick thoughts.

I don't necessarily have a problem with the selection. It wouldn't surprise me at all. It would be for different reasons then the ones you articulated.

If you say Parcells is in a SuperBowl or bust mode, why would he take a WR? WR's very rarely make any impact during their first year in the NFL (There are some exceptions (Moss, Fitz, etc). Holmes has nice talent, but is not in the same league as my other examples. He will take some time to develop to the NFL game.

While Holmes makes some sense as far as a needs pick, I am much more inclined to believe Dallas will address either the LB/FS/OT positions. Based on your picks from 1-17....I say the Cowboys would take someone not even in your first round.

LB Bobby Carpenter Ohio State.

Just my 0.02.

Cowboys have very little depth at this position, and with such a weak FA market it must be addressed at the draft.

Great post, I always enjoy reading Mock Drafts.

I they are a thankless job, they take a lot of time, and most just end up cutting up your work.

btw.... Love the Lawson pick that high. I was hoping more people wouldn't notice Lawson and that he could slip to Dallas.

Nice job with Tampa Bay. I'd love to see Moss in Tampa and agree that too many mocks have us taking an O-lineman in the first, especially considering that all five o-linemen started all 16 games last year. They are a young crew and deserve time to grow more.

As for the rest though, I think in the top 5 you are focusing far too much on perceived team needs. Reggie Bush is a sure-fire pick and will not fall past #2 overall.

I like the Bengal pick. Honestly, a TE will not be the first round pick for them. Marvin had an interview with Bengals.com where he stated that a pass-catching TE is not a priority since there is not enough balls to go around. He makes a good point...2 1000 yard receivers, 1500 yd RB, Chris Perry...just not enough balls to go around. The Bengals will go DT with one of their first two picks, and I like that Michigan guy a whole lot.

Good read.

some comments:

LT is not as big a need for the texans as people think. Chester Pitts was really coming into his own last year.

Martz just said re-signing edwards is their top priority, i doubt they sink a first and a free agent money into DE with james hall also on the roster.

For a safety to go top 10, they have to be a once-every-five-years kind of guy. Huff is not.

I also feel Carpenter is the pick for Dallas unless his ankle doesnt check out.

I just don't see McNeill ahead of Jon Scott, especially to Miami, who loves Anthony Alabi as their LT of the future.

I completely disagree about Sims as a SAM backer. His ideal place is weak side in a cover 2.

Bing is more of a SS than FS. as fun as it would be to reunite Bing and Polamalu, I don't see it.

love the mock draft, with Brick going#1 to Houston..doesn't make sense to get a RB like bush ,when you've already got a top 10 rb in Dom Davis..remember,Davis has performed at that level, despite the lack of a quality o-line!! imagine how good he can be with a solid line in front of him!! it also makes Carr a sleeper pick for 2006..he's got talent, but even John Elway would be hard pressed to find throwing lanes in that offense...

still see leinhart or bush going to Tenn..

Nice job...a solid read.

My main points of contention:

1) Bush isn't falling to 4th unless he bombs in his workouts

2) Cromartie isn't going to be a 1st rounder

3) Wroten's drug bust is going to make it VERY difficult to reassert himself among a solid DT class in the first round

4) Vernon Davis will be long, long gone by the mid-20s

I really enjoyed having the team needs and the salary cap information included, great stuff

*abridged for clarityThe point of that wasn't to say that Parcells would spearhead the Santonio Holmes fan club in Dallas, but that when the guy is drafted, Parcells isn't going to go "oh hey, let's sit here and develop him for a few seasons." He's just going to have Bledose hurl 80 balls his way and see what happens.

I was unaware that Nguyen and/or Singleton were seriously contemplating retirement. Had I known that, would have probably put in Bobby Carpenter.

Someone else mentioned something about that, and you have me in agreement.

Carpenter is well-worth a first-round pick, and if Lawson somehow manages to stink it up at the Combine, I could see him going to Cleveland at 12.

1)LT is not as big a need for the texans as people think. Chester Pitts was really coming into his own last year.

2)Martz just said re-signing edwards is their top priority, i doubt they sink a first and a free agent money into DE with james hall also on the roster.

7)Bing is more of a SS than FS. as fun as it would be to reunite Bing and Polamalu, I don't see it.
*numbered for clarity1) I suppose Pitts could play LT, but who would play LG? I understand that he was a Tackle in college, but wasn't the reason he transitioned to guard because of his suspect pass-blocking skills? And Pitts at best is what, an average starter? Is that the guy you'd want as the only thing standing between David Carr and Dwight Freeney? At that, I do agree he was the best possible option for them last year, but the fact that a Guard had to play Left Tackle has to tell you something about the status of that position and just how big of a need it really is.

2) I suppose Mike Martz can say whatever he wants, but he's their offensive coordinator and won't have any say on how the defense is built or whether they will re-sign Kalimba Edwards. I think you may have meant Rod Marinelli, in which case I was unaware of this news. You have to definitely see that as a good sign if Marinelli wants Edwards to stick around, but at that, the DEs really need to step up, with Shaun Rogers eating up two lineman with regularity, and I don't see Edwards as anything more than a situational pass-rusher.

3) I guess I just value what Huff would mean to the secondary a little more than you do. But I'm not going to defend Huff's potential as a hall-of-famer when he hasn't played a down of football. That's the beauty of the draft.

4) You guys have me convinced, given the full set of facts.

5) That's another "agree to disagree" pick. I just feel like McNeill would be a solid addition and definitely a value pick here. The a good or bad combine might well shake him out of the first-round or elevate him to top-10 though.

6) I think he's a little undersized to play Will, and he played Sam in college. But I won't disagree he could make the transition in time.

7) Bing played FS as well. Maybe he's a little large and a half-step too slow to play the position in the pros, but he's also still a monster who would fit pretty well in their system.

The stadium deal is long dead - They will share a place with the Giants in NJ forever.
 I don't believe you!!!
As for the rest though, I think in the top 5 you are focusing far too much on perceived team needs. Reggie Bush is a sure-fire pick and will not fall past #2 overall.
I'd like to believe that as well, but in all honesty, I think the Titans are going to find a way to trade with Houston to take Matt Leinart No.1 overall, and I just don't believe the Saints would take Reggie Bush with McAllister. Of course, how crazy would it be to inevitably see Vince Young in a Saints uniform with all of the same problems early on (for probably the first season or two) that Aaron Brooks had his whole career there...I also think some people put way too much stock in "oh this guy is the best player ever" rather than focusing on BPA for the schemes that these teams run on either side of the ball. I don't believe Bush is the BPA for the Texans, I think Ferguson is. If you draft a guy in the first round who you would have to adjust your football plans to accomodate, that to me is when you get a big potential for bust. Plus, I'd like to see MSG actually cheer a pick for once.

They'll definitely address the DT position with one of the first two picks, but I disagree about the "not enough balls to go around." That's really an ego problem. The more weapons you have that can't be single-covered, the more problems you create, and the more unstoppable that offense becomes. Adding a big-play TE in the mix might well be the tipping point for this offense to just completely explode. And I want a good Bengals TE because I always want to draft Matt Schobel and he doesn't ever do anything.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that if Cutler were picked here, Millen would be fired before training camp.
Good lord, I wish that were true. I'd be all in favor of drafting Cutler then, if that would be the end result!

thanks for the quick reply.Pitts was actually very solid against the DE you mentioned, Freeney, last year. he's better than people think. that being said, I wouldnt argue against a trade down to get brick at 4, or even 2/3, but i see the texans taking bush if they stay at 1. as someone said earlier, bush is an elite enough prospect that someone will trade up for him at 2 or 3 if the texans dont want him at 1.

you were right, i misspoke, it was new DC Donnie Henderson, not Martz - see the Martz "not a miracle worker" thread.

I can see Huff to the Niners, but not at 7 - i would imagine that they would trade down if he was their BPA at 7 with some other good FS types in this draft.

I think its much easier to get away with being undersized at will than at sam, as you say, agree to disagree.

With Troy playing 4 positions, its important that the steelers FS can play centerfield, thats why i dont see Bing working - Ko Simpson would make more sense.

All our disagreements aside, thanks for putting this out there, very well thought out and spurring some great discussion

Not bad overall, just comments on the two teams I'm most familiar with. (Oh, and I don't see Deangelo in Atlanta, but maybe)

Other Options: Jay Cutler, Jimmy Williams, Winston Justice, Trade Down
While fans are hoping Millen is gone, it won't be drafting Cutler that would do it.I don't like the Hali pick, unless Hall or Edwards are gone. The DL is pretty solid as it is. No WR, no RB, Not sure about MLB as Lehman still has some promise.

I prefer the "other options" listed here.

As mentioned - drugs  But DT is a highly likely position here. Gabe Watson would work just fine. He's suppsoed to be very well suited to the 3-4, and while KC runs the 4-3, if he falls this far, I wouldn't be shocked to see a 3-4 team manuever into position, unless Miami grabs Watson.

Again, I prefer any of the "other options"

I like that fact that you have given reasons to all of you picks. I disagree with a ton of your logic, but at least you have thought about that you have done and are willing to go back and forth with others. This is a good mock for that reason and more people who do them should follow suit.

I am supposed to be working at the moment so I don't have time or energy :boxing: with you.

Good read, but Joseph Addai off the board before Laurence Maroney?

Reasoning please.
I agree Maroney is more likely to be taken first, but Addai is right behind Maroney in most rankings right now, so the Combine and workouts could easiliy make this a reality.

Hell, I thought Calhoun was ranked after Maroney for RBs, not Addai.

I have discussed this in a few other threads on this board, but because I don't believe you would be the type to remember what every poster has ever said, I'll restate my opinion on him.Maroney is a system back that comes from a Minnesota team that produces backup-caliber NFL backs. Every year there's like two guys over 1000 and double digit TDs. Usually they split time up there, so you have to wonder if this guy could even handle a full load for a few game stretch? If he's so good, how come guys that are battling for roster spots now were beating him out then? This guy is going to fall well into the second round on draft day, and anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong. He'd be good splitting time in a zone-blocking scheme (which NE doesn't run), and that's not worth a first round pick. Think Tatum Bell-ish...

He may well go to Minnesota, but I don't see them spending a first round pick on a back that they arguably already have two of in Ciatrick Fason and Mewelde Moore. Also, with him seeming to be a popular pick at No.17, I have to take the devil's advocate and claim that there is a hometown bias in effect here.

I believe Addai is a much more rounded all-purpose back with an overall better set of skills. It's just my opinion though. I think he's a better receiver, and that is very important for the Indy system.

At that, outside of Minnesota's zone-blocking scheme, the only other real fit for him (to me at least) would be the Broncos in the 2nd round.... It's not really a knock on Maroney.... well actually it is, but I think he has the capability to be a solid NFL back, but it has to be in the right system. A team like Indianapolis might risk getting JJ Arrington-esque production.

Whenever I make a prediction for a team, I always think to myself first, "who would be a great fit for this team, and why is/isn't he talked about?" That usually clears up a few smoke screens if I feel I can pinpoint some bias or homer picks. Of course it also leads to me having to vehemently defend some selections, but that's the whole point. A bold mock without an equally bold defense is worthless, and my goal whenever I write anything (not just pertaining to mocks) is to get people to take a step back, re-asses the situation and hopefully develop a stronger opinion based on new information that they may not have seen before. You'll notice a lot of these picks are different from my last mock, and I made a conscious effort to make stronger arguments and provide more information for the reader, so that anyone who looks over this will at least get something of value out of it.

Hope this answers your question, I won't be able to address any more questions probably until the end of the weekend, but I look forward to more :boxing: then. Got a big exam in one of my law classes on Monday, so I need to take a little break :)

Good read.

some comments:

:goodposting: Jimmy Williams and Winston seem to be the most probable options at this point. Cutler is silliness....never gonna happen.

If the Colts were to pass on Maroney the city would be shocked. IMO if he is there, its a given. They dont want a replacement for edge they want a different running game. Atleast thats what Polian says anyway.

You lost me here.
Brick would be the best pick for the Texans. They have a QB and a RB, elite tackles are gold. Also, with the Packers allowing Aaron Kampmann to test free agency, I could see them going with Mario! And I hope they do!

Sorry but an OT w/ the first will not happen.Maybe a trade down type of deal, but not with the first pick.

GB a mock w/o Bush (ie God) first.

As a Colt fan and re. "Nevertheless, this team otherwise can afford to just take the best player available, because they have depth issues at Linebacker and potentially along the Offensive Line.

?? If they they have depth issues at Linebacker and potentially along the OL, how can they just take the best player available?

The whole Addai/Morency/whoever thing concerns me because I'm hearing very mixed reviews on their worth there, despite what will likely be a big big need. That aside, they do need OL and LB help (and oh btw DT....still).

All I know is if they take a TE or WR Polian is toast.

Maroney is a system back that comes from a Minnesota team that produces backup-caliber NFL backs.
Marion Barber had some starter-quality performances as a rookie.
Every year there's like two guys over 1000 and double digit TDs.
Actually, Maroney and Barber were the first two in NCAA history to ever have back-to-back 1K seasons as teammates, so it's not every year, it happened twice, with the same two guys, one of which is in the NFL and, as mentioned, demonstrated starter talent.
Usually they split time up there, so you have to wonder if this guy could even handle a full load for a few game stretch?
So this logic doesn't concern you re:Bush-White too? Regardless, Maroney had 281 carries, easily demonstrating he can carry the load (for comparison, DeAngelo had 310 and he was the whole offense...Maroney also had 5 more receptions than him). Maroney had over 25 carries 6 times, Williams 7. Maroney had 2 games w/40+ carries, Williams none.
If he's so good, how come guys that are battling for roster spots now were beating him out then?
Please list these guys. No one beat Maroney out. RBBC due to having other talented options /= "beating out". The correct view of the situation is that Maroney was the more productive and talented back than Barber and chased him out of school early. From the rest of your comments, it pretty clear you haven't really seen him play, so there isn't much use in continuing to disect the analysis. I just wanted to clarify the factual misstatements. I'd just add that how can you possibly knock Maroney as a part-time player or (albeit incorrectly) note he couldn't beat out competitors, but pimp Addai over him. If anyone, Addai is a guy getting a lot of unsubstantiated love. He a 3rd down back his whole career and the only reason he got a shot this year was Broussard's injury. Broussard had the job coming in to the season...no RBBC, Addai was set to remain a 3rd down back. So he gets the job and has a solid but unspectacular year and continued to have durability problems (another plus for Maroney). If Maroney runs a sub-4.5 at the Combine, he doesn't get by Indy.

The 49ers have won the coin toss with the Raiders, so time to revisit your draft order...

49ers beat Raiders ... in coin tossBy Matthew Barrows -- Bee Staff WriterPublished 7:05 am PST Friday, February 24, 2006INDIANAPOLIS - The 49ers and Raiders finally met for their all-important coin toss Friday morning and ... drum roll, please ... the 49ers won. That means they will pick sixth in the upcoming draft while the Raiders pick seventh. The two teams will alternate positions in rounds two through seven.
Edited to say, OK, maybe not. WTF?Some are reporting its already happened, some are reporting not until 7:45 PM EST. Weird.
