My Spring Break (1 Viewer)

I went to the doctor last Friday to check my progress. They cut the cast off and put me in a room while I waited for the doctor. I was kind of amazed at how swollen my foot and ankle still are. But I was also pleasantly amazed that I could move my ankle in almost any direction without pain. I had solid hope for a boot instead of a cast.

The doc comes in, looks at my foot and asks how I'm doing. I tell him OK. He grabs my foot and starts moving it around while poking it and asking "Any pain?" There wasn't much pain, luckily.

He says, "OK. We'll get you in a boot today. You'll wear that for 2 weeks. Then 1 week after you're out of the boot, you can drive again. Any questions?"

I tell him that I'm out of pain meds and the meds they gave me to replace the Percocet don't help. He kind of gives me a weird look, pauses, and then says, "Hmmm... OK. I guess I can give you some stronger pain meds, but really, 6 weeks after breaking your foot, you shouldn't have all that much pain anymore."

"Uhhhh... I broke my leg 13 days ago. Not 6 weeks ago."

At this point, he tells me, "Bad news. All that stuff about the boot... forget it. You're in a cast for 4 weeks. Then the boot."

Dejected, I say, "That blows. But at least I've already knocked out 2 of the 4 weeks in this cast. So not all bad, I guess."

To which he says, "Ooooo.... More bad news. I meant 4 MORE weeks in the cast."

The only good thing is that he gave me more pain meds. Although I'm still in some pain. If all goes well, I should be back to normal the first day of Summer.

Worst... Spring....ever. :(
How in the world do they mess that up? Don't they have the date that you orginally came in? Our healthcare system is downright scary at times.
This was my thought, too. They're supposed to be one of the best facilities in the area. Yet, so far, they have sucked the big one. First visit, saw the doc 2 hours after scheduled time. Second visit, saw the doc one hour after scheduled time and then he didn't even know anything about my leg.

He was more concerned about whether I was trying to get pain meds than my actual health.

Honestly, that is where are healthcare system is going. CYA about what you prescribe patient care be damned. i can rarely get in front of my PCP (i have met him all of 3x over four years) so when i do go in with an ailment of any type the residing doc i see won't give me a script (i have a disk in my back that is non existent). Getting any meds other than advil generally takes me at least 2-3 visits. At 50 a pop plus time off I generally just try to tuff it out. Complete B/S IMO.

Cast finally comes off tomorrow morning. I can not wait. I'm am so looking forward to getting a good night's sleep. 6 weeks of crappy sleep is really messing with me.

Still have to wait another 3 weeks until I can drive again, though. :sadbanana:

Drove for the first time yesterday. And played 36 holes of golf this past weekend. I'm at about 98%.

So with insurance, the final tally for my two months with a broken leg and kidney stone come to a whopping...

:drumroll:

$2,100

Stupid ambulance ride cost over $900 out of pocket. Next time, I'm gonna take Flava Flav's advice and call a cab. :(

Glad you are feeling better GB. Sorry about the ambulance bill.

It would have been only $300, but you had to ask for the siren.

Missed this the first go around. Story for the women should have been: "I'm not sure HR would appreciate me telling the story of how this happened." They'd leave you alone bit you'd have been the primary topic of gossip for months.
