Nate Burleson done for the season (1 Viewer)

Coach Mike Holmgren revealed Monday that Nate Burleson tore a ligament in his knee during the Seahawks' Week 1 game. Burleson will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.Seattle's passing game couldn't be in worse shape. Courtney Taylor was awful in the opener, but is now thrust into the "No. 1 receiver" role. Logan Payne and Jordan Kent, the team's only other healthy receivers, are candidates to start in Burleson's split end spot. Holmgren doesn't expect Deion Branch or Bobby Engram back this week. Matt Hasselbeck's fantasy outlook is declining rapidly, and Holmgren may have to lean on the run more going forward.

Didn't get a chance to watch the game Sunday. I expected a little more out of Courtney Taylor coming into the game...who is the guy to grab here? Or are the Seahawks in such a disarray that we all should stay away?

any free agent vets available they could go after? guys like Eric Moulds, Eddie Kennison? Courtney Taylor and Jordan Kent looked pretty useless against the Bills.

Holmgren said they will look to bring in a veteran WR and that it would nice if there were someone out there that had played with them before. Koren Robinson possibly? What else do they have to lose?

What is the outlook/schedule for Branch to return? I know he wanted to play this week but was not able to. Any chance he gets rushed back into action now?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but any mention of Morris on Countdown? Morris and Burleson were supposed to get MRIs at the same time today???

Man, who is Hasselback going to throw to? All their WR's are hurt.
I thought Engram was a nice value on draft day. I think he could really help some FF teams in the 2nd half of the season.ETa in response to mentions of Branch above, i think Engram is the one to own vs Branch. My $.02

They should give Eric Parker a call. He'd be a good fill in for Engram - great hands, runs dependable routes.

Just confirming:

Sports Radio 950 KJR AM reported on Monday afternoon that Seahawks WR Nate Burleson will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee in Seattle's season opening game this past weekend against Buffalo.

Burleson was being counted on to be Seattle's number one receiver while Deion Branch (knee) and Bobby Engram (clavicle) both eased their way back in to the lineup as they recovered from their injuries.

He went down in the third quarter after being Seattle's only spark on offense when he hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Matt Hasselbeck late in the first half to draw Seattle within seven points before halftime.

On the day, Burleson managed to haul in five catches for 60 yards and the one touchdown and finished as Seattle's leading receiver on the day.

Burleson came to Seattle as a free agent from the Minnesota Vikings in the 2006 season and has managed to post 73 receptions for 956 yards and 12 touchdowns in his 33 games with the Seahawks.

Burleson has also made an impact on special teams returning two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Check back with Seahawks.NET for more on this developing story as more information comes available.

The last 12th man out of the stadium, please turn off the lights.

Do not worry Seahawk fans- you still have the Mariners and the Sonics....oh wait, scratch that.

Can we expect Jordan Kent to step into a starter's role now?

WR1: Courtney Taylor

WR2: Jordan Kent

WR3: Logan Payne

WR4: Seneca Wallace

Something like that?

That's all there is. Unfortunately, Payne is brutal and it Taylor looked like a deer in the headlights this week. I think they have Michael Bumpus on their practice squad.

No. Kent is a project. He's a speed guy. He didn't even play high school football and only played 2 years of college football. He was a champion sprinter in college and also played on the basketball team (his dad is Oregon Ducks basketball coach Ernie Kent). He's still learning the game.

Holmgren is picking a good time to leave town.

This team is headed for a major overhaul.
As a Seahawks fan I was hoping the overhaul would begin last year as signs of this decline had started. I don't think things will look up for the Hawks for many years to come. Back to the basement of the NFC for the next 10 years.

Notable free agent WRs:

Troy Brown

Tim Dwight

Doug Gabriel

Brian Gilmore

Terry Glenn

Joe Horn

Keenan McCardell

Aaron Moorehead

Eric Moulds

Peerless Price

Koren Robinson

Troy Walters

Cedrick Wilson

Peter Warrick (was on Seattle roster in 2005)

 While some here thought Burleson was a steal in drafts this year (http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=418553&view=findpost&p=9148688 ), I thought Engram was the steal in the drafts I was in, available at the end of each draft. He should miss only 2 more games at the most, and should be a solid WR2/3 the rest of the year.

Seattle's next 2 games are against SF and St. Louis, and then they may get both Engram and Branch back after their week 4 bye (though Branch just had ACL reconstructive surgery in January). If they can survive the next 2 weeks, they should be in much better shape for the rest of the year.

So much for Chicago and Tennessee fighting it out to have the worst set of WR's in the league......

I don't know how you can say no. The cupboard is bare. It's him or Payne by default until Branch gets back or they sign a free agent.

Brady=Cake

Burleson=Icing

Thank god I drafted tons of depth...

Really tough break for Burleson. This could've been a huge year for him.

Oh well. At least he already got his payday.
