===================================================================

After breaking my "high stakes" cherry last season with a 4th place finish in Tampa 2 (97th OA), I'm going back in 2007. I'll be drafting in Chicago this time.

Let's talk fantasy baseball... :nerd:

:coffee:

Are you going to have a daily thread about it, like Assani?
I'm sure that would be a real crowd pleaser..
Worked for him.
If you read it, I'll write. A day-to-day rant could be mildly amusing. It'd probably be more productive than reading colon blow threads. :)
;) I may eventually try it myself, but c'mon. "Look at me, I'm declaring jihad on my colon." Please.

I'd read it.I'm a big baseball fan, but don't play fantasy baseball, so I could live my daily life vicariously through you, and then if you win you could give me a cut of the winnings.
 2 readers is enough to get me on board for this. PS- I'll cut you in on winnings as long as you are willing to absorb the losses when the #### hits the fan.

My losses are having to read your "blog"

Hey Nips, what do you think about getting in on this? Meatloaf is already a participant, so it is definitely a hip scene for the superstar types.

Why does high stakes fantasy sports seem like a new concept to FBG? WCOFF and NFFC are very popular around here.

I know a lot of people who played last year and love it. Im on the fence for 07.
 Pickles and Hoss played last season, but Hoss died, so I don't know if they are planning on playing again.Rumor has it that Red Raiders and Capella are contemplating a 2007 NFBC appearance, but they haven't checked in here yet.

Shall we talk strategy?

What's the public opinion on draft position? We are allowed to rank our preference of draft position from 1-15 and through a "Kentucky Derby Styled" system, our draft position will be selected. For example.. If you rank your preferences: 5,4,3,2,1,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 and you draw the first pick, you'll get the 5th pick. Last season we got the 2nd pick, and it was #1 in our preference.

Anyway, in a 15-team league, where does everyone want to draft this season?

In straight draft formats with larger leagues, I prefer to be in the middle....maybe spots 5-9 or so. Reason being, way less picks in between yours. Usually there is a run or mini-run on a position and you either started it or missed it if you are drafting real early or real late. If you use your first 5 picks on offense..and you are drafting #1....and right after your fifth pick closers start going....well, you have to wait 28 picks or so to see what closers are left.

Also, unlike fantasy football, one guy isn't going to make your break your season. If you get the 5 pick, you probably will not get Pujols or ARod....but chances are your first round pick is going to be someone awesome anyway. It's not like football where teams that drafted LT2 first this year or LJ last year pretty much coasted into the playoffs.

g'luck....I'll check back if you post updaes....at least one person will be reading.

I'd say: 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 4, 3, 11, 2, 12, 13, 14, 15

Pujols is worth the pain of waiting, IMO. But then I'd be ok with waiting until the 5-10 range and take someone like Reyes, Utley, Beltran, Howard, Crawford.

I'd agree with this...after seeing how Pickles draft went last year,I wouldn't be surprised to see the top 4 go Pujols, Soriano, Crawford, Reyes IN THIS FORMAT...these guys go ga-ga over SBs.

It has to go that way. You can't win without plenty of steals.
Is Beltran done being a SB guy?
I think his days of stealing 30 and 40 are over. He can still do it but he tends to hold back quite a bit because of Delgado. It's apparently distracting to him while he's hitting or something. That said, there may be nothing to that and he may have held back because of the numerous leg issues he had last year. If he's stealing more in April, that was it.

How'd you finish last season compared to those BBT crashers last spring that were talkin' themselves up?

If you get the 5 pick, you probably will not get ARod.
Interestingly enough, ARod's ADP in the NFBC format at mockdraftcentral.com is #5. That's been a topic of discussion for us. He actually represents some value there.

I don't put much into mockdrafts or ADP to be honest. I'm not familiar with the scoring format enough to make an informed stab at where Arod should go. If available at 5, I'd more than likely take him in almost every common format.

The scoring format is standard 5x5 roto, the only thing that will throw you off is that there are 15 teams and generally all of them know what they are doing. No matter what the stock you put in ADP or mock drafts, you cannot deny that Soriano, Reyes, and sometimes Howard/Santana/Crawford will go ahead of ARod in some drafts this season. For whatever reason, it is popular to hate ARod these days. I think some guys let that get in the way of the consistency he offers. He's my #2 player, FWIW.

Well, in the case of the NCOFB (they run their own "mock" leagues which are a smaller entry price) the ADP is pretty important to consider.

I would dance a jig if I got A-Rod at #5..290/35/121 in his "down" season. A full year of Abreu ahead of him?
No doubt. I'll do the macarena on top of the draft table if we were to get the ARod with the 5th pick.

This is true. There are some "satellite" leagues they run that are for ~$100 with the winners getting an entry to the main event next season. Those are worth noting. Also, when you sign up for the NFBC, you are given a free membership to mockdraftcentral.com. MDC offers NFBCers some practice opportunities by setting up several "NFBC styled" mock drafts each week. Those are the drafts that the ADP comes from, I believe.

1,350 to win 5,000 in a 15 team league? What a complete ripoff.
I completely agree. A friend and I were going to sign up, but it's a complete ripoff. Who cares if there is a 100,000 grand prize? Even if they added 10k to each league prize it would still be a ripoff.ripoff :fishing: my fantasy football league that I run is $500 and the winning team takes home $3,000, not to mention all the weekly prizes and division winners money.

;) Their payouts are on par with almost every pay league in the industry. There are costs involved, such as renting out 4 convention centers for 3 days, 2 full-time salaries for Tom and Greg to create and maintain the NFFC and NFBC, advertising, draft supplies and draft facilitators, etc.The next time you and your pal decide to bring 360 people together from across the nation for a live draft at your house and guarantee 100% payout, I'm in! Talk about comparing apples to oranges.

Didn't say I never considered it  Just don't put much stock into it. If most of the people in the league are looking at the same material, it's to my advantage I know what material they are looking at, especially when I disagree with it.That being said, in a standard 5x5 scoring system, I'm pretty sure only Pujols I'd definitely consider ahead of ARod. Cases can be made for Reyes, Soriano, maybe Santana, Howard and Crawford. I think people are undervaluing a guy that can hit .328, 48 home runs, 130 RBI's, 124 runs, and 21 steals (from just two years ago), and has a pretty good lifetime career track record.
