Need a power hitter in the OF (1 Viewer)

Sweet Love

Just had my draft on Sunday (first time playing FB) in an 8 team, roto style 5x5. It looks as though I overvalued speed, so I could use another power bat. Here is my roster:

C - Suzuki,

1B - Howard

2B - Pedroia,

SS - Bartlett

3B - A-Rod

IF - Sandoval, Youkilis

Util - Weeks

Bench - Escobar, Doumit

Waited on OF, this looks pretty thin...

OF - J Upton, Span, Bourn, Borbon

Bench - Morgan, R Davis

SP - JJohnson, Vasquez, U Jimenez, W Rodriguez, Oswalt, E Jackson, Kazmir, Hudson, Kuroda

RP: Fuentez, Papelbon, Nunez

Bench - there are four bench spots so I need to determine who is riding pine to start the year

Here is a listing of some of the players available. I am guessing I will drop Doumit (unless someone has a better suggestion):

Chris Young, Colby Rasmus, Garrett Jones, JD Drew, M Ordonez, Swisher, Cameron, Willingham, Headley, Cust, Byrd and Scott

Any suggestions? Thanks!

You have a lot of speed to trade. Of the players you listed, I probably go with Swish although he'll hurt your AVG.

I like either Garrett Jones or Colby Rasmus this year. Not sure who you could drop for them, but you could play either over Bourn or Borbon for now.

I agree. You basically have 4 of the same player with Borbon, Bourn, Morgan, and Davis. I like Borbon and Morgan out of the 4 and would try to move the other 2 although I don't know how much you would bring back in a trade. I'd look at the teams in the league with a lack of speed and go from there. I like Swisher, Ordonez, or Chris Young of the players you listed, although none of them blow me away.

Are Matt LaPorta or Kyle Blanks available? If so, I like them much better than anyone you listed. Both are hitting toward the middle of their respective lineups and will be given plenty of time to play. LaPorta is a big prospect and Blanks is crushing it this Spring.

Both are FAs...you like them better than the others listed? I don't have a clue, just asking.

Yes. I'd pick up either or both over the guys listed.

Garrett Jones isn't even rostered? I understand things were a bit fluky last year but his numbers spread out over a full season make him a 40/20 guy. Now he most likely wont be but how do you ignore a guy who put those numbers up?

I'm new to this so I can't really comment, but it is only an 8 team league and I cornered the market on leadoff hitters, so maybe having another savvier owner would have drafted him? Regardless, it sounds as though there are options for me, so hopefully that lasts all year. Comparing to FF, I know 8 teams leagues tend to have very solid options on the WW on a weekly basis, so I am guessing that could be the case. I am leaning towards Blanks as he seems to have nice potential and while Jones' dual position eligibilty is nice, I already own Howard, Sandoval and Youk, and can't imagine I would ever need to plug him into the 1B slot.

Jones is rostered in 66% of Yahoo leaguesAn 8 team league makes a lot of difference. Replacement-level in small leagues is pretty high so trades are harder to make. In a normal league, I'd say hold your speed guys, bank some SBs and let the market come to you. But an 8 team league, there may be enough free agent speed guys to come along during the season to devalue your assets. It might be better to deal some of your speed sooner than later.
