Need Advice on Draft Mix-up (1 Viewer)

Here is the situation. This is a 14 team redraft money league which we just moved from Yahoo Plus to CBS for this year. We have all played together for the past 5 years. One member is in England and always preranked his players on Yahoo and has done very well, finishing in the money twice. This year, with the switch to CBS he either forgot or did not know how to prerank. Unlike the autopilot at Yahoo, CBS pulls the best available player (I guess from their rankings) but does not fill in a full roster. This is the team that he received.....

By the way, CBS would not allow the commish to draft for him so even when we would rewind the draft and take back his pick, the same one, or similar would be made.

Peyton Manning

Donovan McNabb

Matt Hasselbeck

Domanick Davis

Jeremy Stevens

Carolina

New England

Pittsburgh

Baltimore

Tampa Bay

Denver

Buffalo

NY Jets

Vanderjagt

Vinatieri

Wilkins

Do we just give this guy his money back and give his opponent a win every week? Do we allow him to make trades and try to improve his team? Obviously, there are a lot of top defenses on this team along with arguably three of the top five QB's which many teams will have an interest in.

Any help/advice would be appreciated once you stop laughing....

classic . . . yes, give him a refund . . .

Also, remember this is a 14 team league with 16 roster spots so the waiver wire is slim for this guy to try and rebuild.

What happens to the team? Lock it up with those three QB's for the year?

yup. leave the team as is, unless you do a total redraft . . . good luck . . .

the CBS autodrafter fills in based on the min/max allowed positions in your league.

do you have them set up correctly?

either way, give him a refund if there's no way to redraft. pretty much sucks.

edit to say maybe offer him 1/4 price to stay on and make trades. i'm sure it'll make it interesting to see if he can pull it off. kind of a challenge if you ask me.

Give him a refund and freeze the team. CBSCRAPLINE SUCKS!!! Had problems with it last night in one of my drafts. It took 3 1/2 hours for a 10 team redraft 18 rounder. Total BS. I urge anyone thinking of useing them for draft to STAY AWAY!!

that's just over 1 minute per pick. what's the problem with that? sounds pretty quick to me.

agreed . . . my draft took almost 4 hours . . . max 3 min per pick, 18 rounds . . .

I'm not the commish so I don't know for sure. Will find out but it appears we missed that functionality when setting up the draft.

Seems to me you might be the perfect trading partner for Mr 8 Defenses here :)

If do-over isn't an option, freezing the team seems the most likely one. It sucks that it's happened to such a long established league though :( If redrafting, just do the draft through a different service (or pick off a list for him) and then edit the crap out of the league (a nightmare for your commish to be sure).

The 1/4 idea isn't completely horrible, since it would be a challenge - as long as you trust the guy not to go into cahoots and create a superteam for somebody.

Weird, CBS usually fills starter positions before drafting depth. One guy we had had ranked 3rd RBs above Ks, of course, but didn't get to draft them until his starters were in.

Between Manning, those kickers, and the Carolina D, this guy might win a game at some point this season. I'd hate to be his opponent that week.

We had a guy who had an emergency come up, so he couldn't participate. His first 3 picks: Clinton Portis, Dominick Davis and Neil Rackers.

He ended up with 6 QBs as well. We gave him the first shot at the waiver wire, but he's stuck with his team.

Offer him a refund, but let him manage the team with no chance to win cash. If he wants to pay the cash, let him do that as well.

It looks like the guy from England didn't put one bit of effort into the league this year. He paid and that's it... Tell that %^&*@! to bug off, and try harder next time.

CBS will fill out the roster, so the lineup req's must not have been set up right. The commish can draft for any owner at any time, the commish had to make my last pick for me this year. They just need to know how.Having said all that...uhhh...I'm not sure what you can do, if you can't set up a redraft. I'd definitely give the guy his money back though.

I dont see the problem. Every team has its strengths and weakneses. This guy is loaded at QB. DEF and PK. Plus, Jeremy Stevens is a nice sleeper TE for the second half of the year. I agree that the compter screwed him with the D Davis pick. Crap software.

Maybe there's some way he can trade with the other teams to redistribute the players?... maybe have an "expansion draft", e.g. let each team leave one WR unprotected and he gets to trade for one, ditto for the other positions he needs?

And give him WW priority for several weeks?

Seems like there's gotta be a creative solution somewhere.

Good luck.

the commish screwed up. they can draft for any owner at any time during the live draft on cbs. I did so for 2 of my live drafts on sportsline and was able to pick for all the guys who weren't available. Of course that doesn't help your situation now, but just in the future if this situation arises again, the commish can set up postion requirements and can draft for anyone.

It was our first season on CBS so the commish didn't quite know all of the ins and outs of the draft room.

We did discuss the option of an "expansion draft" where we protect a certain number of players but that got a cold response.

The owner has taken some blame and has already made one trade and just wants to field a competitive team at this point. I think this helps him have a respectable team and with one more trade he could have a contender....

Owner gives up Hasselbeck and Carolina Defense

Owner receives Jamal Lewis, Antonio Bryant, and Dallas Clark.

Thoughts on trade? He can still trade either McNabb or Manning for another starting running back or receiver. Remember, this is a 14 team league also so there are no stacked teams....

I'd give him a 50% refund, and let him go from there. He should be able to fill out a semi-competitive team with trading some Ds, QBs.

There are a lot of options, but I think first things first... he should at least be given the option of a refund.

After that, were it me I'd give him the option to continue with the team, without a shot at the regular payout. In fact I'd encourage him to do so. And anyone that got beat by his team would get roasted royally on the message board.

If you have a bunch of good sports in the league, you could even work a small bit of prize money for him if he can manage to win X games this year.

sounds like his problem.time to start trading and hitting the waiver wire.

Not sure why CBS didn't allow you to draft for the guy. As a commish, you'd have that ability.

Tell the guy to start making trades....

Other than that, you're stuck with what you have unless everyone wants to re-draft. You'd think a guy would want to be drafting live or figure out the que since you switched sites.
