Please move this if it is in the wrong forum.

I had a draft scheduled for today at 7pm. I have known about this for months and had alerts sent to my phone for yesterday and today so I wouldn't forget. I have been working hard on this team since 2007 trying to make it a contender.

So today I show up at the draft a little before seven, and guess what? The draft was moved up an hour, so I missed it and ended up with 5 tight ends and no rookies. (It's a dynasty league.) This other guy and I posted on the message board about it and another league member says, I got an email from the commish today saying that the draft had been moved up an hour. And there were 8 people there, he says. So I guess most people got the message.

I had company this weekend and was pretty busy today, but I made sure I had the time blocked off for my draft. No I didn't check my email. Even so I don't think it was right to change it the day of the draft. No explanation so far for the change.

I take my teams very seriously, so I am pretty steamed. Am I making a big deal over nothing? should I just shut up and play or should I just leave (which I am very tempted to do). I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

That's a pretty bush league move by the commish. These things never seem to end well, and if he's the kind of league manager that would pull a stunt like this I wouldn't want to be in the league anyway. I'd walk.

That's ridiculous.

So they started early AND they screwed you on the draft picks too? Unacceptable.

Did they just send an email or did they at least try to call you? What was so dang important they couldn't wait an hour for you to arrive at the originally scheduld draft time? And if it was so important for somebody to be somewhere else let them leave early and draft the rest of their team from a cheat sheet.

If there is an owner absent unexpectedly in my league we have a set method of selecting his players from a source that cannot be influenced by other owners at the draft. One year we had a guy go to the hospital on draft night and nobody in our league knew where he was or what happened to him. He didn't get the greatest team, but we certainly didn't intentionally screw him by giving him 5 TEs and no rookies. I'd insist on either a do-over, or I play for free for at least the next two years.

So is that 8 of ten people or 8 of 12? Either way unacceptable.

I know it's tough to walk but I don't see any other way. It can be tough if you are friends and I suppose you have to decide which is more important.

That's not right. If he didn't get responses from everyone then he needs to stick with the original time and the team/teams that wanted the change should have made arrangements. Walk if they don't hold a redraft or do something that you feel is fair.

:coffee: As a commish in one of my leagues, one owner could not make our draft at the original time and we did not officially change the time until we spoke to every owner to make sure they could make the new time change.

Walk away and count any monetary losses as knowledge learned. No need to argue semantics, what's done is done.

You will be better off in the long run for it to have come down this way, because you won't be in this league anymore.

Bush league move by the commish. That's utter garbage. The draft needs to start over from scratch or the commish can pay your entry fee this season and next himself.

Agree that this is a total BS move by the commish. However, if you've already paid I wouldn't quit just yet. Are there any people in this league that you like? If so, I'd make a few lopsided (but not vetoable) trades with them. "I'm building for the future". At that point I'd ignore any emails until the night before the 1st game and then send the following email to all the league members: "I'm surprised that you haven't found a new owner for my team yet. I emailed the commish 2 weeks ago advising him that I quit."

Revenge is a dish best served cold. :banned:

Wow, I hope you don't call any of these people "friend" I wouldn't even bother with explanations. They know what they did and are trying to do to you. Just walk.

Wait, he emailed (no call or text) the league the day of the draft and when you didn't show, nobody from the league even called you? Either all the guys in the league hate you or there's more to this story.

Anyway, taking it at face value, I have no idea why you'd waste your time on a league run by a complete moron and filled with #######s.

If he is in a league he joined online, no one might even know his number. I am in 3 leagues with guys I have never spoken to.

I can't understand what could happen to make them start drafting without you. This story doesn't ring true really, cuz it is so inane. Have you paid $$$ and how much? What exactly did they say when you walked in at the scheduled start time, and what did they say when you asked why they couldn't wait? I can't understand why these clowns would think this was alright. Anyway, I really like the revenge part of this, especially if you had someone on your side or buddy up with someone else who got ####ed in this. Would like to hear how you play this out bro. :goodposting:

If I were the Commish I would have never started the draft without everyone there who said they would be there.

Really he is putting his own league in jeopardy. He has now weakened the league and if you leave and others leave that did not make the draft the league might implode on itself.

But to answer your question I would confront him and if I didn't like the answer (really he should offer to completely re-do the draft) I would walk as well.

I agree with the majority here—WALK.

But out of curiosity, what type of league is this? I assume it is a Dynasty/keeper league(?) Is it a local league with your friends? Money league? What does your roster look like?

I ask because it gives a better picture of the situation. For example, if it is a local league with friends with a minimal fee, designed to give each other grief, then I might be inclined to stay and laugh it off.

Or if your roster is still stacked, even with 5 TEs, your best revenge would be to win the league.

To the OP, I think we all have some questions as everything here does not seem to be adding up? What did the Commish say when you walked in late? How did you respond? It sounds as thought they drafted for you; how did you end up with 5 TEs (was it computer generated, or did they take turns ripping your draft apart).

Not blaming you here at all; just think a little more info would be helpful.

Maybe it's time to look in the mirror....

Isn't it obvious? Let's look at the facts:

1) No one told you the draft time was changed.

2) You got 5 TE's.

3) They pushed the draft through in less than an hour, knowing you would show up at 7 pm.

It's not that you should walk...I think it's pretty obvious that they WANT you to walk.

Like they (whoever "they" are) always say, there are three sides to every story.

What is the other guy doing, I am sure he is pissed as well? I think the choice is obvious here find another league.

if the draft was move last minute, the commish SHOULD have made sure everyone was there. it's almost like he tried to mess people up. i dont get it. i'd bail on this league immediately!

Bye Bye, see ya, hasta luego, see ya, see ya later, kiss my ###, so long, ciao, farewell, g'bye, stick it up your blank, cheerio, y'all come back now, god be with ye, khush, agur, pakul, bidai, I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

So we've all given our opinions and it's pretty much unanimous.

What did you actually do and what excuses did the commish give for this BS?

WOW! That's about as lame a Commish move as I have ever heard!

Almost as bad as the commish who changed the several scoring rules AFTER the draft.... made QB's 4 pt TD (was 7), changed TE +1.5 ppr (was 0). Really helped himself with that move.

If this is the first bad move the commish has made, give him a chance to explain it and how he hopes to overcome the problem. Plus he needs full disclosure to the league and all those who were wronged.

If this is not acceptable to him, I would walk without any explanation and share his dirty laundry here to make sure others do not get soiled by his leagues.

If he is willing to bend you over at the draft, why would you expect him to pay up if you actually won?

Take your ball and go home. WALK!

 Based on the facts you've given us I think it is clear they want you out of the league. I would either oblige them or if I were really po'ed I would stick around and play it cool about halfway through the season. Then I would start making moves to screw the other owners, especially the commish.

Sorry, I guess I should have provided more details. I am on disability, so I have to play in free leagues on the internet where we don't actually know each other. I don't have the money to pay to be in a $$$ league. Also, I am female, so it is not like I can round up a bunch of my friends and start a league. Most of them don't even know what fantasy football is.

We had 12 teams, 8 of the owners read the email and showed up for the draft. Four of us did not. When we got there, the draft was over and there was no one there we could talk to. No one gave any explanation as to why the draft was changed.

I know it was just a free fantasy league, but I still took it very seriously and had been in the league for three years.

I and one other owner posted on the message board that we didn't think it was fair, but no one replied except the guy who told us that 8 of them did show up. I dropped out of the league this morning, which really sux because I had worked so hard to get a good team. Next year I guess I will have to save up my money and just join a pay league.

Thank you for all the responses!

Maybe you and the other owner can startup your own league for free and round up some of the posters here?

Now things make a lot of sense. Maybe my earlier response was wrong. It just sounds like the league is going to hell and you got screwed first. With the huge number of quality leagues out there, you should be able to find something to join even now in the middle of August. Maybe find a $$$ league that you can pay over a few months.

You can find quality free leagues (No Mercy, for example), but you have to sift through the idiots, unfortunately, to find them. And Money Dynasty leagues aren't magically free of this kind of problem. You still get I-jerks since you can't see people face to face. Just keep plugging away and don't get discouraged.
