Need Some Draft Advice (1 Viewer)

Advice Topic

I've posted this in the advice forum, but since it's IDP related thought I'd post here as well for advice. Need help determining a strategy over the next couple of rounds and need some players to target.

Who is left at SS?

How many picks between your current pick and next pick?

Who is left at DE?

Would anyone buy the Jones/Taylor combo?

I usually don't respond to such general advice requests. Too much time involved to make solid suggestions. If you supplied more info, and I thought I could spend 10 minutes generating a useful response, I would, but this sort of advice request makes it look like you haven't done much homework, and are looking for someone else to do it for you. I'm not saying that is what you are doing here, but that is how it looks to me.

Try to be a little more specific, and show that you've done some work on it, then present some questions.... I think that would generate more responses.

uhh, provided lots of info I thought in the thread I linked. Just thought I could link it rather than re writting it all again. But, here it is:Need some draft strategy help here. I'm in a 12 team IDP dynasty vet draft. We're in the 15th round, and I'm on deck. Need some advice on the direction my draft shoud take over the next several picks, I'm not liking the way my teams turning out so far and want to make some wise picks over the next few rounds.

Scoring

PASSING

TD 4.00/Yds .05/Int -2/

Rushing/Receiving

TD 6.00/Yds .10/Fum -2/

DEFENSE

Tackle 2.00 (Tackle for loss add 1)/Ast 1.00 (Assist for loss add 1)/Sack 3.00/

Fumble Recovery 2.00/Forced Fumble 2.00/Interception 2.00/Pass Defended 1.50/

Defensive TDs 6.00/ Blocked FG 3.00/Blocked Punt 2.00/Safety 2.00

Lineup

Offense: 1 QB/2 RB/3 WR/1 TE/1 FLEX (WR,TE, RB)1 K

Defense: 3 DL/4 LB/3 DB

My team:

Brees, Drew NOS

Johnson, Rudi CIN

Jones, Greg JAC

McGahee, Willis BUF

Taylor, Fred JAC

Chambers, Chris MIA

Galloway, Joey TBB

Houshmandzadeh, T.J. CIN

Ward, Hines PIT

McMichael, Randy MIA

Taylor, Jason MIA DE

Brooks, Derrick TBB LB

Merriman, Shawne SD

Tatupu, Lofa SE

1)

I'm not satisfied with Brees as my starting QB, should I use my next pick to get one of these while they're available: Brooks, Green, Vick, Favre, Roethlisberger, Leftwich, Warner. If not now, when and who? One team still has no QB and he picks after me this round.

2)

Should I be picking up more defense at this point? There are 42 LB's gone, and now seeing DB's go (10 gone now) and 6 DL gone. I'm an IDP newbie so unsure when to pick some of these, and who are the value picks at this point.

3)

Other noteable players remaining:

RB: Staley, Houston, Cobbs, Calhoun, Davenport, Blaylock, Adrian Peterson

WR: Jurevicius, Bryant, Wilford, Parker, Bruce, Booker, Reggie Williams, Engram, Stokley,

TE: Troupe, Clark, Alex Smith, Hilton, Kinney, Pope, Wiggins

Any advice for me?

With rushing yards worth 2x passing yards, Vick would be a great choice. Also, passing TD's (an area where Vick is lacking) are only worth 4 pts each, while rushing TD's (an area where Vick is the best) are worth 150% more at 6 pts each.

To compare Vick to THE KING...

Manning in '05 = 259 pts

Vick in '05 = 240 pts

You essentially get Top-3 potential in the 15th-round. Run! Go Vick!

Thanks... that makes it much easier to comment. I agree with Weiner Dog, I'd go Vick too, but Warner is tempting here too.

Then I think I'd come back with a DL. With only 6 gone, there should still be some good DE's left on the board. You still need two more starting DL's, so instead of depth, I'd look to fill that spot with a top ten DE.

One other stratgey I might consider is to go DE right now, and hope Warner, Vick or Green are still there in the next round.

I'd also take a hard look at what LB's are still available before going to DB's. The next LB you take will also be a starter, and with a start 4, you'll need yet another for bye weeks and injury insurance. Figure your 5th LB will end up starting at least 6-7 times for you. Be sure to watch the bye weeks, since weeks 6 and 7 I think it is, have more teams on byes than in previous years.

After the QB pick, it looks to me like you have a solid group of offensive starters with enough depth, at least for the next several picks. Letting others take the DB's now while you shore up positions that have a smaller pool to pick from is the way I'd go. I've mentioned this before..... 32 teams, X's 4 starting DB's each... there are more starters available at the DB position than there are at any other, and the drop off after the top ten is very slow, and more difficult to project.

If it were me, my next four picks would be DL, QB, and 2 LB's, not necessarilly in that order, unless a real value dropped in my lap.

Gotcha, thanks for the help yet again.

can I get some opinions on these players:

Joey Porter

Eric Barton

Pisa Tinoisamoa
I hesitate to reply this way because I don't want it to come off as not being helpful. But, especially when this forum starts to really get cracking as the season gets closer, the search function and already published FBG content will be helpful for you. Both FBG and non-FBG thoughts can be found in the following links.

Detailed projections, scouting report, and outlook for each of the following players:

Joey Porter

Eric Barton

Pisa Tinoisamoa

I'm 99% certain that those links are not subscriber content. If they are, let me know, and I'll summarize them for you.

Link to a string of posts from the IDP Interview about Tino.

Good thread about the Jets ILB situation with some insider thoughts from Rovers.

 The 'Outlook' portion of the player pages requires a subscriber log-in.
Ahh. Sorry, didn't realize that wasn't free, year round content. I was afraid of that, but not everything on the subscriber servers is subscriber only content. Here are the cliff notes.

Joey Porter -- Norton expects Porter to remain as productive as he's been. Whether that productivity translates to good value in your scoring system is the issue. He's probably worth rostering in all leagues as a spot starter or depth. There are some contract concerns with Porter, but expect that to be worked out during training camp.

Eric Barton -- Could be overlooked after last season's injury woes, but moving inside next to Vilma in a 3-4 situation won't help much. Some question about whether Anthony Schlegel might move into his spot at some future point. Again, Rovers had some solid thoughts in the aforementioned thread.

Pisa Tinoisamoa -- Magaw is high on him and he's won me over. Some question about whether he'd play strong or weak side linebacker earlier in the offseason, but it seems clear now that he's locked in at WLB. Solid all-around performer with the ability to make a higher than average number of big plays. Still a bit of a question about how the tackle stats will break down in a new scheme and alongside a talented, but green at MLB Witherspoon. Should put up solid numbers in that role and, IMO, unless your league values sacks very highly, easily the best option of the three.

I'm a subscriber, and have been living in these projection pages the past couple of days. I've read what the writers believe, just trying to lock down any additional info out there.

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure you knew what we had available. I'm always appreciative of the other insights, too. This board, IMO, is easily the best on the innerwebs.

I hope you've been comfortable during your time in the FBG IDP Pages. We've been working hard at keeping the fridge stocked and the grill cooking. Let us know if you need a wake-up call or turn down service. Enjoy the rest of your stay.
