Neighbor Situation (1 Viewer)

I live in a subdivision and the neighbor in question lives directly across the street from me. Their driveway is right across from my front yard. About 2 years ago it was pouring outside and I let the dog out and noticed a Silver truck in my front yard. My front yard has about two feet of flat ground near the street then there is a little grass ditch and then a 5 foot hill. Well, the bed of the truck was against my hill and the back bumper was in the hill pretty good. No one was with the truck. Checked outside 30 minutes later, truck still there, so I called the sheriff. He comes out, runs the plate said it was my neighbors and despite 4 cars in the driveway no one answered the door when he went over there. He asked me if I wanted it towed I said no. Couple hours later it was gone with huge tire tracks left in the yard.

July 2nd my wife comes home from work at 3:30pm. Let’s the dog out and sees a green car in our yard. Same place as the truck. She knows it is the neighbors. See looks and notices he is in the car. She starts walking off the porch and he guns the car, spins the tires and gets free and pulled into his driveway. My wife is walking towards him and he goes in house and shuts the door before she can get to top of the hill. My wife did not tell me this happened until Saturday because she forgot about it.

When she told me Saturday I was pissed and wanted to go over there and decided not to. I have not ever really spoken to them and do not know much about them. They been there 5 years and none of the neighbors around me know them. I am all for being private but when their guests park on my lawn and you now have ran two vehicles into my hill, I am starting to get pissed. Especially when I have a dog that could be out there when this crap happens. But honestly I do not know what to do, if anything. I just don’t understand people like this.

What is the play here?

Edit:

He is not parking there, when his car/truck hits my hill, half the car/truck is in the road. It is like he is backing out of his driveway and not stopping and runs into the hill.

Can you build something that would prevent a car from parking there without damaging the vehicle first?

Bury some 2×4's with nails sticking up under the grass and ditch he keeps parking his cars on. After a couple flats he will stop

Or something that achieves this

You go over and talk to them. If they don't answer file a complaint. There should be a record of the first incident and now you can document this one as well. If they've done any damage sue in small claims court. But you want the incidents documented so that if something bad happens the history is on record.

Poop on their car? Slice their tires? Slip them a note saying their car will be towed if parked on your property?

Next time there's a vehicle parked in your yard, slash the tires.

Also, put a big rock where the vehicles park.

Put me in the talk to him first bucket.... First time is a friendly please don't do this again, you don't need animosity with your neighbors. If it happens again though, then you need to reconsider options.

Go over and talk to them. If they don't answer write them a note and leave it for them. If they continue doing it, get the cars towed every time they park there. It'll stop.

Put large rocks on the grass ditch part. He won't physically be able to back up far enough without running into one of those.

This is the answer.

Pick up (or have delivered) several boulders that are tall enough to reach and damage the undercarridge of an automobile but not tall enough to allow the vehicle's bumper to avoid the serious damage.

Install an insanely bright flood light on your front porch. Keep it on all night long. When they complain, tell them you're having issues with trespassers.

People realize it's not a voluntary parking situation, right? He's backing out or letting a car roll across the street into his yard. Boulders are the best answer here. Talking to him will do no good. It doesn't seem like it's a purposeful action. It just means he's a complete idiot, or a drunk.

Talk to them. Let them know that if this behavior does not stop that you are going to start calling the police to have the vehicles towed. Oh and definitely bang his wife.

This is what I am thinking. We caught him twice, I have no idea how many times this has happened.

My wife went to talk with him and he hurried in the house and shut the door.

Go to the gas station, and fill up a bunch of diesel fuel in a portable gas tank. Walk over there late at night and fill up their vehicles with the diesel. Problem solved, they won't be driving anywhere anymore...unless the truck is diesel, then you did him a favor.

My dad had neighbors like that years ago.. he got the town to install those concrete-reinforced pillars through which cables are normally run as an old-timey guard rail. Only no cables through his, just the concrete posts. That not only stopped the neighbors from driving on the yard, but it also stopped the snow plows from chewing up several inches of lawn every winter. It looked like hell, but it solved the problem and it didn't cost him anything. When I sold his house last December, those posts were still there.

The other option is to lay behind the car and have your wife run up screaming "You've run over my husband and I'm calling the cops!". Fake an injury, find a shady lawyer and then sue the crap out of him.

I can't do spikes or nails. Too many kids outside playing/riding bikes, old couples walking and people walking their dogs everyday. I like the boulder idea, I just need to see how close to the street I can put it and if there will be enough room from there to the hill.

Given that you know nothing about them, you need to tread very lightly. If they're inconsiderate enough to do that, they could potentially be psychopaths who would do much worse with little provocation. If you're not able to get a read on them, I wouldn't even talk to them about it. Go with the boulders. Five years and no one knows anything about them? Huge red flag IMO.

Take it from me, YOU DO NOT WANT CRAZY NEIGHBORS. You'd be surprised how quickly something trivial can escalate when you're dealing with a nutjob. Feeling unsafe in your own home sucks.

All seriousness, a sign that says "Private property. You'll be towed if you park here." doesn't work? Seems like the least amount of effort.

Home depot is having a buy one get one sale on boulders.

Took the words right out of my mouth. The last thing you want is neighbors that close to you doing all kinds of destructive #### to your house when you're not home.

That is outright bizarre. I'm surprised the cops didn't tow him without even asking the first time they came out. Doesn't this block traffic or at least create a hazard?

The road ends in a cul de sac. I live on the corner so it is at the beginning of the road. Probably 20 homes off that road and about a little less than a mile long.

No one has spoke to the parents. In fact they might not even speak English. I do know a little about them. They have two boys that are between 8-12 that I see a lot outside. in fact the school bus drops them off at my house but almost never see an adult outside or even coming or going.

My neighbor to my right has an email list for people on our street to inform them about news in the neighborhood and is in charge of community watch. He has went over to meet them several time and they will not answer the door.

Reclusive is good. They're more avoidant rather than aggressive. So most likely any type of physical barrier like a boulder, fence, tree etc. would not start a war.
