Just some thoughts on the craziness of this FF/NFL season:

- After signing with the Houston Texans as an undrafted rookie and working his way up from the practice squad to the starting lineup, Arian Foster won the NFL rushing title with 1616 yards.

- After playing four different teams over the course of his first 7 seasons, Brandon Lloyd almost doubled his previous career high of 733 receiving yards to win the NFL receiving title with 1448 yards for the Denver Broncos.

- After being undrafted and cut from the Tennessee Titans in training camp, LeGarrette Blount latched on with the Tampa Bay Bucs and lead all rookies with 1007 rushing yards.

- After two undistinguished seasons as a backup RB/FB for the Denver Broncos, a college FB named Peyton Hillis was traded to the Cleveland Browns. He lead the team with 1177 rushing yards.

- After being out of football for two full seasons, former top 10 pick turned draft bust Mike Williams found a home with his ex college coach in Seattle and caught a critical TD pass for the 7-9 Seahawks en route to a playoff win over the heavily-favored defending Super Bowl champions.

You can't make this stuff up. When it comes to FF and the NFL, it's never safe to say never. You can't be narrow-minded or dismissive because almost anything can and will happen.

- After getting suspended in 2008 and quitting on your college football team in 2009, then falling in the NFL draft to 4th round. He lead all rookies in receiving, yards and TDs...Mike Williams TB

Sorry, this was an accidental double post. The server lagged when I was trying to post.

This is a great point to keep in mind. Very often I see posters speak in absolute terms. For example, earlier this season, there were multiple posts down playing BJGE. And later, many people were dismissive of James Starks' chances. The former was a very viable back down the stretch this season and the latter could be a hot commodity going into next season. The point is not that either is ready for enshrinement, but that we can be far to quick to reach a conclusion and stubbornly adhere to it.One thing in common from most of your examples is the change in scenery. That should be something we pay more attention to as... change breeds change.

it is insane, and I don't like the inconsistency.

it's the curse of the nfl's tiny 16 game schedule and the variable weather conditions.

doesn't make for as consistent of a fantasy game as the NBA or MLB.

Few games, combined with injury factor make fantasy football a harder and more random game, for sure.

I would like to add the coaching "situation" for the phins.

after trying hard to replace their UNFIRED coach with no takers, they turn around and give him an extension.

and just as surprising, he accepted it!!!

Therefore, predictions for next season:

Ryan Leaf comes back and leads the Arizona Cardinals to an undefeated season.

Tom Brady cuts his hair prior to week 1, fails to make another completion until week 10 of the regular season after it grows back out, and the Pats still make the playoffs.

The ghost of Pele signs on with the Bengals, and although they are unable to get a single rushing or passing TD, they finish 8-8 by only scoring FGs.

Al Davis convinces John Madden to coach the Raiders...who immediately sign Favre to a life-long contract.

Add in the stories of Mike Vick, Chris Ivory, Mark Clayton (at least for a few games), Ryan Torain, Stevie Johnson, and Darren McFadden and this was some year in the NFL.

Jamarcus Russel, Cecil Collins and Yatil Green form the 2011 version of aikman/emmitt/irvin for the new-look carolina panthers

There is a tendency to have certain preconceptions about players or situations and quite often that is the prism that one views things through. For instance I liked Stevie Johnson but didn't think that any WR in Buffalo would have any value as long as Lee Evans was in the picture (and maybe even if he wasn't) yet it turns out that Evans was not as good as I thought and given the opportunity Johnson exceeded all expectations once the Bills actually had a QB who could throw the ball.Hindsight is 20/20, but some of the players you mentioned are not that surprising now that I look at it after the fact. I remember in 2009 Cecil Lammey saying on this board that of all the RBs in Broncos training camp in August, Hillis looked the best of any of them (including Moreno). Also Brandon Lloyd had a familiarity with Orton in Chicago, so it was just as likely that he (not Gaffney) might emerge as Orton's top target (at least this should have been worth a late round flyer). I remember being impressed with Foster's YouTube highlights before his rookie season started, but for some reason I didn't follow through on it. And with Blount there were serious character issues, but he had been touted by some as a top prospect in college.I think the problem was that my preconceptions overrode my common sense to the point that when they started to break out and put up some numbers, I didn't think that it was legitimate. Oh well, live and learn, although I will probably overcorrect and go to the other extreme next season and grab a bunch of players that are just a flash in the pan.
