New draft order (1 Viewer)

It appears that there will be a different way of drafting in one of my leagues. It is aimed at "redistribution of the wealth". It won't have that much of an affect because it is a keeper league, keeping only one player. Anyway this is aimed at me and a couple others who have won the league in the last couple of years. This year they want us to keep one player and the draft order would be determined by how many fantasy points the kept player had. Least points gets #1 through most points at #12. And there will be no serpintine...straight up every round. So, I go through everyones roster and have a feel who they will keep and what the respective draft order will be. Initially my thought was to keep either Frank Gore or Willie Parker and end up with a pick from 5th to 8th or 9th. I don't know what I was thinking. If I keep Steve Smith, I get the number 1 pick and could pick up either Gore or Parker . I know how everyone has them rated and I think both will put up very good fantasy numbers. But I have this almost overwhelming gut feel that Travis Henry will put up numbers we haven't seen at Denver since Terrell Davis. Pour some cold water on me.

Yeah, dude, consider yourself hosed down. Smith/Gore, for sure. Don't outsmart yourself.

This is interesting, wonder how many folks would keep LT2 and take the last pick in every round over every other potential alternative.

When a league sets up rules aimed at you it is great to out smart them. Smith and the #1 pick is great unless everyone has the same idea. It is obvious that the #1 pick is more important than any one player. If I were the LT owner I would keep the worst player on my team to get #1 and LT. This system is set up for disaster and will probably only last one year.

Just to be clear, if you were the LT owner and you kept your worst player, you'd get Worst Player plus LT (the 1st overall pick).I'd keep LT, SJax and LJ no matter what. All the rest have question marks that would need me to see everyone'srosters and who I might think will be available.

 This is exactly what I was thinking too.

Given this strategy - I would keep someone who put up minimal points last year due to a starter in front of him, or being a rookie, or a number of other reasons. Since it isn't serpentine, that gives the top overall pick - that much more strength.

Perhaps someone like a Cedric Benson - who didn't put up a lot b/c he was behind Thomas Jones. Now he is the true starter so he is instantly more valuable than last year. Plus, while others keep Westbrook, Addai, Rudi, etc - you get an earlier pick - in every round!

I fail to see how this is the smart move?Option 1) If you kept LT, you get LT and picks # 12 & 13. Option 2) If you keep the worst player of all keepers, you get LT, this bad player and the #24 & 25 picks.
You didn't understand the post.

This means he gets LT, his worst player from last year and the 1st pick in EVERY round of the draft.

I deleted my post cause I went back and read - NO SERPENTINE - which changed everything.

you won't be able to keep Steve Smith as other will have the same idea as you

it'll have to be an emerging player that had low points ... Norwood, Cutler, etc

in what order do you set who you keep, worst to first?, first to worst?, blind?

that would make a big difference

my first thought is that i would much rather get the first pick in every round and keep a guy who didn't score as much the yr before

:headbang: Must have typed in before you got to it.

Trade Gore for Shaun Alexander straight up. While you may get beat out by some for the lowest points kept, you will still be retaining a top 10 player and be on the front end of each round.
