New to IDP, trade question... (1 Viewer)

That one guy

Footballguy
Cameron Jordan is on my team and being pursued

Offered R Starks, K Misi, and 2 picks 7th and 8th rounds

2.2 to 2.0 tackle value for DLs/LBs, respectively. Wanting to get a 4th rounder in there too. Too much, too little, fair?

I don't like it for you at all. Jordan is a borderline DL1 who can get back in mid DL1 discussion if he bounces back to his 2013 numbers. Starks was waiver wire fodder even in DT required leagues and now he's likely becoming a rotational 3-4 DE in Cleveland, and while Misi will be starting at MLB he's just not a high tackle or big play kind of guy. Misi is primarily a good run defender who can play some subpackages, but he's not a true three down linebacker and I think they're ideally looking to find a better nickel option to pair with Jenkins. He's a decent LB4 in deeper leagues but to me there's not much upside with him, and the picks are garbage.

It's a classic quantity for quality offer. You'll likely be able to find guys off waivers in the early part of the season that are just as good as Starks and Misi (at least if the league is no bigger than 12 team with 55 man rosters). Also keep in mind that there is still some question marks surrounding Misi's long term role. They might decide to move him to SLB at some point and/or pull him out of subpackages completely.

16 team, 43 man roster...pretty deep, I guess

Point-wise it looks like a bit of a wash, judging by 2014 output and 2015 projected (which I know isn't reliable, just one of the few visuals I can use in the immediate as I try to get up to speed on IDP). Is it scarcity at DB that creates value? I'm in full rebuild, so gaining multiple picks at this point isn't something I'm against; just want to make sure getting full value, if not more since he's in win now mode

Maybe get Misi (he's at least a starter is my thinking) and ask for 4th, 5th, and 7th? We're in mid-4th right now and I haven't had a pick since the 1st; I guess that's the other problem, I really don't know who to target. The only IDP guy still on board that I know much of anything about is Bud Dupree and that's because I'm a Steeler fan

Last option and I'll let this decision run...

Jordan

-for-

K Misi/H Anderson (DE, IND)/B Heeney (LB, OAK)/7th rounder

From a rebuild standpoint, the young talent seems closer to quality for quality than original quality for quantity offer, no?

Would it be overly simplistic, then, to say "don't trade established DLs for someone else's later round fliers...always aim to get a known quantity for a known quantity when dealing with such a scarce IDP position"?

I would say don't trade a starter quality DE for multiple waiver wire level players/picks.

Misi is 2 down backer who seems to get nicked often and rarely fills up the box score. 3-4 DEs like Anderson often struggle for sacks/big plays.

IDPs, especially DBs are easy to find early in the season while others pay more attention to Offense. Be prepared to grab a couple of the waivers wire guys early and drop/replace them quickly if they don't pan out.

Cameron Jordan is more valuable as a 4-3 DE than all the "stuff" you were offered.

I love the trade for the other guy.

It's really the same as offense. If you are offered several WR3/4 types and a late pick for TY Hilton would you do it? The team getting the 1 difference maker usually wins those deals fairly easily.

LEts not forget that with the recent wave of position changes on MFL, true DE are becoming rarer. Finding a DE1 is now akin to finding a RB1. Dont give him away.

Based on this I am glad I held Chris Long.
