New Torain handcuff?............... (1 Viewer)

Redskins signed RB Jeremiah Johnson to their practice squad.

Very interesting. Johnson had made quite an impression on the Texans in training camp and preseason action before going down with a toe injury. He has experience with Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan as well as the zone blocking scheme. Johnson is a more talented runner than Keiland Williams, so he could be called upon if Ryan Torain goes down with an injury. Dynasty leaguers should take note.

Related: Keiland Williams

I watched this guy in the preseason with Texans and he looked fantastic. With no time table on Portis and K.Williams obviously preferred as a 3rd down back this guy "fits the bill" in the Shanahan mold/ zone blocking scheme. And remember Torain jumped from practice squad to active roster AHEAD of Williams. A guy to stash if you have Torain and roster room

Great info - thanks for the insight.

I'm not disrespecting the thread, but who'd have thought going into this season we'd be talking about a Torain handcuff? The NFL is just nutty.

Carry on.

Johnson looked insanely good in preseason too. I thought he looked better then foster before he got hurt; and Foster looked awesome. Does anyone know if he is 100% healthy?

He had a toe injury- not sure on 100% health but Ward emergence made him expendableI agree- looked BETTER than Foster and Foster looked fantastic!

Yahoo lists JJ at 205lbs. I know it's only 15lbs but if the weight is accurate he projects more as a 3rd down back. If he is really 220 then i could see him taking on a more featured role.

threads like these that make me keep coming back to Shark Pool.

such information is available no where else and is worth keeping an eye on.

Clarification on injury/waiver from Rotoworld Texans waived/injured RB Jeremiah Johnson (dislocated toe). The plan is to work out a settlement and re-sign him to the practice squad. A highly impressive preseason performer, Johnson has been unable to stay healthy through two training camps. He missed all of his first season with a shoulder injury, and the injuries may increase the chances he clears waivers.Source: Houston Chronicle Texans RB Jeremiah Johnson's dislocated toe is expected to sideline him for up to a month. The Texans will apparently hold his roster spot after an impressive showing in preseason action. Derrick Ward is expected to handle No. 3 duties until Johnson returns in late September or early October.Source: John McClain on Twitter

Source on weight Wilkopedia- 205/209 from combine probably added weight since then....

Ok man, you got me confused now.....what team is Jeremiah on? Is he a Texan or a Redskin. I saw him in pre-season with Texas and he was going to be my sleeper of the year until he got hurt.

This is only a post on a Redskins message board, so take it for whatever that may be worth: James Davis.

The gist of it is that Johnson will be cut, James Davis (cut by Cleveland) will be signed, and that Davis is on his way to DC to practice with the Skins tomorrow.

skins will sport the all preseason hype '09 backfield - any guesses as to what this may mean?

indicator of portis health?

As a Torain owner in every single league this is quite concerning. I've been VERY high on Jeremiah Johnson since his college days. To this day I believe that JJ is superior to his old backfield running mate Jonathan Stewart --damn, Oregon has some high caliber RBs in their recent history! Anyway, I have always loved this kid. He is going to be a star somewhere. I'm debating whether i should rid myself of the Kheiland Williams handcuff now and roster Jeremiah? If I played in a dynasty league, i would find a way to get JJ on my team. Pure star material!Sometimes i think that I'm a better judge of talent than most of these NFL scouts. How is it that all these guys "come out of no where\?" One day they are on the practice squad and the next they are stud RB material (Arian Foster anyone?). Jeremiah will be next.

No way this kid is a 3rd down back. He can straight put you on your ###. Very powerful. Reminds me a bit of MJD.

JJ who ?Arrington ? ;)

The Redskins are woefully thin at RB. Portis is used up. Keiland Williams seems to have little upside. Ryan Torain is being featured right now and performing pretty good but he is not a fully polished running back and has a injury riddled past and looked tired when given a big role late last week and he also fumbled.

With Washington's bye week coming up I would expect Jeremiah Johnson will get a serious look during the bye and could even be active in week #10 if Portis isn't ready.

Torain's value is impossible to gauge right now. He could hold on to the starting job for the year. He could get into a committee with Portis when he returns. He could even be pushed by Jeremiah Johnson in the not too distant future and of course it seems like he is just an injury waiting to happen.

That being said, if you can get anything of good value for Torain right now you may be laughing later. He could be the ultimate Sell High Candidate.

Rick Maese, Washington Post

The team is expected to add to its practice squad second-year running back James Davis, who was released earlier this week by the Cleveland Browns. It was not immediately clear whose roster spot Davis would be taking. The Redskins had signed running back Jeremiah Johnson to the practice squad one day earlier.

Washington had only running backs Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams available Sunday. Chad Simpson, who has primarily been a special teams contributer, injured his hamstring in practice last Friday and wasn't available in Chicago. Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday he hoped Simpson would be able to practice this week.

At this point, with the cloudiness of RB's behind Torain (Keiland Williams, Jermiah Johnson, James David and Portis potentially coming back in week 10, and Shannahan's unpredictability, is it even worth carrying a handcuff for Torain?? Or should we be looking to roster a better/clearer handcuff like a Derrek Ward or a Deji Karim?

Jeremiah Johnson-RB- Redskins Oct. 27 - 11:10 am et

James Davis will take Jeremiah Johnson's spot on the Redskins practice squad.

That was short-lived, as Johnson was signed less than 12 hours ago. The Redskins evidently like the upside of Davis more than that of Johnson.

(KFFL) The Washington Redskins released RB Jeremiah Johnson Wednesday, Oct. 27, according to The Washington Post's Jason Reid.
