Plenty of Cam;'s threads but I didn't know where to go with this. Thought is might help those dealing with Cam value issues as we move into the second half of the year.http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/11/02/2741534/newton-passing-is-riveras-first.html

By Joseph Personjperson@charlotteobserver.comBy Joseph Person The Charlotte Observer Ron Rivera wants to run the ball... in time. But the first priority for the Panthers' coach is to continue developing rookie quarterback Cam Newton, who is on pace to break Peyton Manning's rookie record for passing yardage.Conversely, DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart - who two years ago became the first tailback tandem to rush for 1,100 yards apiece - are on pace to finish with their fewest carries in a full season. But as Williams has said several times this season, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski's scheme is nothing like the run-first attack favored by former coach John Fox."The thing we have to look at and understand is this is a group of guys that really were the focal point. But it wasn't bringing the kind of success that this team needs the last couple of years, for whatever reason," Rivera said Tuesday. "I think if we can get to a balanced attack and be able to have some success as a balanced attack, there will be a time like the Redskins' game where you've got to run it. You've got to pound it."The Panthers' 33-20 victory against Washington two weeks ago was the only game when they finished with more running plays than passes. It was also the only time this year the Panthers have led by two scores in the fourth quarter. While Newton continues to put up eye-popping numbers, the tailbacks have only one 100-yard game between them - Williams' 115-yard performance against New Orleans in Week 5. But Rivera said Williams and Stewart have not been a distraction or demanded more carries."I think they've handled it very well," he said.
I heard more of the interview on the radio. Basically he stated that the developement of Cam was the first priority of the team. Cam had exceeded their plan and expectations so they are going to expand the complexity of the offense and give him more. I got the feeling that he was saying Cam had accomplished their year one goals in 1/2 of a year and they are going to push the envelope in his developement. The direction of the brass is on the future, not winning games this year. That bodes well this year for Cam owners.
