NFC North Predictions (1 Viewer)

I agree that the Lions played well given the injury situation.

I honestly believe most are overstating the Packers injuries. Who really got injured? Ryan Grant 1,200 yards...okay. Finley who is just potential still at this point...Barnett an ILB that was fighting for a job in a 3 way battle with Bishop anyway. Brad Jones, Morgan Burnett spare me...

Backups sure they matter but Rodgers played all but 1 game. The WR core was relatively healthy(Driver was hampered but he isn't a stud anymore). The OL was intact the whole season. Clay Mathews, BJ Raji, Charles Woodson, Nick Collins, Tramon Williams all played the majority of the season.

So the core the Packers team played the whole year, yet everyone wrote excuses for them.

The Lions are playing with Drew Stanton as QB and they are the same ole Lions.
Grant, a 1200 yard rusher who did well in that system.Finley, a guy they were basically running the offense around. You mean the guy with 82 receptions in 32 career games. The guy that is hyped beyond believe in here but still hasn't sustained success.

Mark Tauscher starting RT Seriously? The guy that was out on the street the year before and now he was "lost" for the season

Nick Barnett starting MLB...you show your ignorance when you claim he was fighting for a job here Or i'm complimenting Desmond Bishop who should've been starting in 2009. Barnett hasn't had an INT or Fumble Recovery since 2007, never more than 4 sacks in any of his 8 seasons. He isn't anything great.

Morgan Burnett starting safety3rd round rookie safety is a significant part? That's a new one.

In addition, they then lose other guys as some stepped in for them.

There was nothing overstating what happened last year. Not in the eyes of a homer packers fan no.

Then lost Woodson and Driver during the Super Bowl and still won the thing.late in the super bowl

So spare me your spin on what really happened.
So Grant(you said did well in a system), Finley(who is hype), Barnett(who is lets agree on an average MLB), and a bunch of fringe players that could be starters but aren't studs. That's not a lot in todays NFL.

I saw on ESPN today Chris Carter said the Lions would make the playoffs. Paraphrasing what he said. There is always a team that half way through the season you say I should have picked them, that's the Detroit Lions.

The majority of the people think the order of finish will be:

Green Bay

Detroit

Chicago

Minnesota

You can go to the bank that this order will not be the correct order of finish. Not that it doesn't make sense today, but just knowing what makes sense on an entire division most of the time won't finish that way.

I would say everyone picking the Lions 2 is the biggest chance for let down. Any if the 3 teams that finish with 9 wins will get the 2 spot and I think most likely that's the Bears.

The only way the Packers don't win this division is if Rodgers gets injured.

So, you downgrade Finley going into that year because of his career numbers. Again, did they, or did they not pretty much run the offense alot through him those first few games and plan on him being a huge part of the offense all year long?Tauscher...yes, seriously. And he was "out on the street" the year before because he was recovering from surgery. Again, your ignorance of the topic shining through.

Barnett/Bishop...great compliment to him sure...still does not change the fact that Barnett was not fighting for his job. Psst...AJ Hawk most certainly was. Barnett's was safe til Bishop stepped in when he got hurt and finally put together a string of consistent games.

Starting safety is not significant when Bigby couldn't get and stay healthy?

Not in the eyes of Homer Packer fans? You might want to check out the very many articles written about that team last year from people who aren't Packer fans. They all seem to agree. But the homer Bears fan is the one who wants to argue the minutia. They had something like 15 guys on the IR last year including 6 or 7 guys who began the season as starters.

You can keep thinking it was not alot...Ill keep enjoying the image I snapped at Disney of Kevin Greene wearing his Super Bowl Ring knowing they beat the Bears on their own field to get there.

I won't bash your predictions because they seem reasonable based on what we know now. I think you will be a lot more

accurate however, if you wait until after the free agents have signed to see who ends up where. After all, if Nnamdi signs with either GB or Det, that might effect they ending record, don't ya think?
I doubt GB signs Nnamdi - T Thompson is notorious for not signing free agents. He plays with the guys he has and I think Woodson is good for one more year and they have some good young guys in the nickle that can step it up given the chance. Maybe Detroit??? :football:
Funny you should mention Woodson. :lmao:

Packers

Lions

Bears

Choke Vikes

Green Bay has the best team in the division on paper. After that are 3 teams in a flux. Lions should be climbing the ranks with the talent and coaching they have. Bears are getting old on D and will Martz's offense struggled last year in the bad weather. Choke Vikes need to find a QB, Williams sisters are done, and the secondary is terrible.

Packers could easily loose to the Falcons. Once the schedule came out Falcon players should have put a circle around that game. Falcons win in the regular season and than loose a game that cost them hosting the NFC Championship. That should have the players motivated to come out and put a beating on the Packers.

Bears in the last 10 years have not been able to repeat the success after a good year.

Going to put my 2 cents in here.

Finely was not the focus of the offense last year when healthy or will he be in the future. Finley and Jennings were close on targets while Finley was playing, just Jennings wasnt making catches. The offense did change some without Finley gone because there was no TE with his skills on the roster. McCarthy will run his offense and not focus on one player.

Nick Barnett has been over rated from day one and more over rated than Hawk. He doesnt make plays unless it is down field 5 yards tackling someone. Than he pulls out a sword to sweep threw the air. For his entire career Barnett has blitzed directly into a lineman time after time to get no pressure. Barnett wasnt in trouble coming into last year it was Hawk. Bishop did not get a shot before last year because he was not solid. It was well documented that he wasnt assignment sure and coaches were not sure he would get it. Bishop has athletic talent but he needs to make sure he can keep up mentaly.

Tauscher wasnt a huge loss as TT drafted a top tackle that fell to him in the draft. As a Packer fan glad to see that Buluga got to their spot, no way did I think it would happen. Timing some times is important. Packers draft a talented tackle and one of the starters goes down early so the rookie can take the reins. Going into the season it was a lot of hope that both Tacusher and Clifotn would make it threw the season. Clifton was nearly benched for his poot start also.

Watching the games...I watched Rodgers look to Finley often...sometimes even forcing it to him. It was obvious the focus was on getting him mismatches.Barnett...its funny that people always want to say the same about Hawk...only makes plays 5 yards down field. Its funny how two guys can lead the team in tackles yet people want to claim its always 5 yards downfield. Sorry, I disagree, I have constantly seen Barnett make solid plans at or near the LOS. Solid tackling MLB.Though, I believe he will be gone this year (I hope they could hold onto him, just don't see it happening).Tauscher wasn't as huge of a loss because a rookie came in and played well. But counting on that at RT is not exactly what you want to be doing in going for a Super Bowl.

You know it just bugs me that people think the Falcons are in Green Bay's class. The only reason they won the first game was because McCarthy errantly kept the challenge flag in his pocket on Gonzo's 4th down catch.

Take a look at the targets and it shows that Jennings and Finely are close. If the difference was greater toward Finley than we could say that the offense was centered on Finley.Barnett has made tackles at the LOS it is a guard or center when he blitzes into the line. Very average MLB, take off the gold and green sun glasses fellow Packer fan. That rookie was going to get playing time last year anyways. Would argue that Buluga was better than any tackle that the Packers had during the last Super Bowl run. Every Super Bowl team has to count on a young guy to preform at some starting spot, nature of todays NFL.

Falcons are one of the top teams in the NFC and the game is in Atlanta. You dont think they wont be pumped up for some revenge? I am a diehard Packer fan, but I realize that a team can be beaten any Sunday. Falcons have a very good offensive team, their weakness is on D. Can blame McCarthy for the non flag or the Rogers goalline miscue. Bottom line that day Falcons put more points on the board.

I guess what I am saying is that the NFCC game was more indicative of their respectively levels of play.

The guy is probably not going to be a Packer for much longer...its not green and gold sunglasses. I like barnett as an MLB...he is better than Hawk (in almost every phase of the game). He is also older and has other issues (including his contract and injuries) which is the reason Hawk will be back and Barnett won't be.I think he is at least average...slightly above average as an MLB. Still hurts to lose a starting MLB...its still a major injury to a team. The reason many of the injuries did not hurt as much was because of the GM.

You are correct if the Packers can jump out to a lead and have the D make a couple stops. Falcons dont have a team that can come from behind for two reasons. They are more of a ball control team and the defense is shaky at times. I think that people are not giving the Falcons credit for how good they are, they played very well during the season. Playoffs are one in done and the Packers surely were the team to beat last year in the playoffs.

when the mn vikings go and pay 5000000 duckets to donovan mcnasty they will be an instatnt contender for not just the devision but probably the whole nfl you heard it hear first folks

I don't think they lose to ATL and I also think they win one of the games @ DET or @ NYG for 12-4. This team is so solid all around, with young players all over at key positions. If Woodson can stay healthy and productive in his unique role I think the D will be just as good if not a bit better. Mike Neal is back for his 2nd year after an injury during the season. GB thinks he could be a real good DL. Plus all the offensive talent coming back that is proven. Grant, Finley and the addition of Cobb as a #4 plus returner. GB hasn't had a returner worth anything for years. If Cobb can fill the role well, that is just a shorter field for a great offense to work with.

Solid tackling MLB.

Though, I believe he will be gone this year (I hope they could hold onto him, just don't see it happening).

Tauscher wasn't as huge of a loss because a rookie came in and played well. But counting on that at RT is not exactly what you want to be doing in going for a Super Bowl.

Or because it wasn't as great as every says it is. Grant, Finley, Barnett and that's about it...even your own Packers fans agree with me.
:lmao:

i dont think any predition matters until free agency because that is when we will see who gets the big pieces they need to complete the puzzle and no matter what whoever wins the nfc norris dvision north will have a great chance to take home the superbowl especially if the playoff games are home games unless det or mn is the nfc champ but it probably wont be them

looking at NFC North:

1. QB: advantage GB; Det then Chi then Min

2.RB: Min, Chi,GB, Det...altho this is very tough because of young depth in Det

3. WR: GB, Det, Chi, Min (assuming Rice goes elsewhere)

4. OL: GB, Det, Chi, Min

5. TE: GB, Det, Chi, Min

6. DL: Min, Chi, Det, GB..... 3-4 def in GB lessens impact plays here

7. LB: GB, Chi, Min, Det

8. CB: GB, Chi, Min, Det.... last 2 have suspect CB (other than Winfield)

9. S: GB, Det, Chi, Min

Special teams: Chi, Det, Min, GB....but Cobb may change this...

Based upon last years records:Chi plays tougher schedule. Det gets last place schedule...

Det is on the rise and by end of year will be really good team...

Min has QB issue but if they sign D McNabb they could be competitive

Chi very good run game, very good Def, consistency at QB is issue

GB: lot of hype about # of guys returning off IR; best QB in NFC? all signs point to GB with best record...but injuries and offseason personal issues/locker room...pressure to repaat...

at this stage predict this order of finish:

GB

Det

Chi

Min

looking at NFC North:

1. QB: advantage GB; Det then Chi then Min Stafford with multiple big injuries over Cutler, who has made the pro bowl?

2.RB: Min, Chi,GB, Det...altho this is very tough because of young depth in DetI think Detroit should be 3rd, with GB 4th

3. WR: GB, Det, Chi, Min (assuming Rice goes elsewhere)

4. OL: GB, Det, Chi, Min Chicago should be 4th here, even with adding Carimi. Only if they get upgraded in FA with a solid player would I move them up.

5. TE: GB, Det, Chi, Min

6. DL: Min, Chi, Det, GB..... 3-4 def in GB lessens impact plays here Minny isn't #1 here, Ray Edwards is gone and the Williams wall isn't what it used to be.

7. LB: GB, Chi, Min, Det Urlacher and Briggs are pro bowlers almost every year, they should be #1.

8. CB: GB, Chi, Min, Det.... last 2 have suspect CB (other than Winfield)I would move Chicago down to 3rd, Tillman doesn't have consistency and Tim Jennings is average.

9. S: GB, Det, Chi, Min

Special teams: Chi, Det, Min, GB....but Cobb may change this...

GB

DetDetroit has probably the worst back 7 defense in football. They need to address the back 7, OL and let these young player develop before they get hyped to #2 in the division with 2 division foes making the NFC Championship last year.

Chi

Min

I also think they win... @ DET... If Woodson can stay healthy and productive in his unique role I think the D will be just as good if not a bit better.
If the Packers are going to be just as good, as last year, then wouldn't they lose to the Lions? Because they lost last year! ;) Just messing with you. They very easily could come out of the gate on fire and win 13 games. Who knows what will happen? Nobody does. So this is all just fun banter by all of us. I predicted that the Packers will win the NFC North and I think that's pretty much the consensus around here.

i dont think any predition matters until free agency because that is when we will see who gets the big pieces they need to complete the puzzle and no matter what whoever wins the nfc norris dvision north will have a great chance to take home the superbowl especially if the playoff games are home games unless det or mn is the nfc champ but it probably wont be them

i ment because mn and det dont have outsidegames because they play in domes duh but i guess they might have to play outside if another roof collaps occurs so i made the reservation in my statement so i hope that clears up your confusion confucious

I had the  because you said

then you said
unless det or mn is the nfc champ but it probably wont be them
. You said no prediction matters then you make a prediction. Get my point.

no dude i meant that there wont be an outside field home field advantage due to cold weather because mn and det play in domes so it would not be them who had that advantage unless they hvae anther roof collapse which probably wont happen thats it so feel my flow bro but noone can predict when a roof will coolapse so you are probably right unless it is a big snow hurricane season

Forgive me for not deciphering this correctly.

Min no longer has the best DL in this conference.Id take Detroit's over them right now. Suh is that good. And yes, the 3-4 may hurt a Dline...Id take GB's over Minnesota's DL right now.Id rank them Det, Chi/GB, Min right now.Edit...well, we will see on that, Id drop GB back if we do for sure lose Jenkins...it will be a wait and see approach with Neal there.

If you say so Bears fan.
That's all you see and it's sad. We could have critical discussions about each other teams, but you won't have any of it.
I have it just fine...when its honest discussion and not homeristic crap trying to minimize losing about 15 guys to the IR.

Statistically, there's a huge disconnect between GB (2nd), Chicago (4th) and Minny/Detroit (18th and 19th, respectively) in terms of points allowed. While I think that saying the Lions have the worst back 7 in football is either hyperbole or based on previous incarnations (def true 2 years ago), it seems to me they have to make huge strides in that area this year to compete with the Bears/Packers. Unless Avril/Suh/Fairley/Vanden Bosch wreak havoc on opposing backfields on a level rarely seen in the NFL.

Other than predicting that Green Bay is going to run away with this division this thread is an exercise in futility. Free agency is too important to ignore - especially for the Bears and Vikings. I doubt Minnesota is going to go into the season starting a rookie QB since they are a veteran team.

when the mn vikings go and pay 5000000 duckets to donovan mcnasty they will be an instatnt contender for not just the devision but probably the whole nfl you heard it hear first folks
Vikes may want to use Twins outfielders at WR because they may be more deft at shoestring catches.

Due to the lockout, lack of conditioning (in some cases) and the inability to evaluate and coach up players to install gameplans, I think the first quarter to half of the next season could be really skrewey.

It would be really interesting to see Detroit with Stafford for a full healthy season.

Otherwise, picking Green Bay 1st, then Chicago 2nd, then Vikes to finish 4th with Ponder or who knows what one year vet fill-in at QB, with an improving but still not good enough Detroit to finish 3rd is not groundbreaking.

Chicago could very well finish first also.

Not sure what Minnesota can do given the analysis I saw of their expected cap number.
Minnesota Vikings -- The Vikings are $5.148 million over, which will make it tough for them to keep Bernard Berrian. Releasing him would save around $3.7 million. Adrian Peterson is in the final year on his contract with a salary of $10.72 million. He wants a long-term deal, and if the Vikings accommodate it would free up a lot of cap room.
