I said Johnson to Detroit weeks ago and will be re-affirming that stance shortly. The Lions brass is doing a great job filling holes in other need areas to make Johnson seem like the logical pick. They added a RB with some skill (no Peterson), added a tackle (no Thomas), added a DE (no need for Adams/Anderson) and avoided Brady QUinn's workout all together. The pick is going to be Johnson...amazingly concise ths is.

He may not be on the board. I have heard chatter to the effect that the Raiders are not enamored with Russell and may be leaning towards Johnson. From The Sporting News . . .The pick is going to be Johnson.
LINKDRAFT BUZZ: The Raiders returned from the NFL Scouting Combine less convinced that Louisiana State QB JaMarcus Russell is their man for the top pick and with more questions than before after taking a long look at him during the process. Publicly, the Raiders said nothing about Russell or any of the other players who attended the Combine. Privately, several Raider officials questioned Russell's work ethic, said they are concerned about his weight as a long-term issue, and cautioned against making Russell a lead-pipe cinch as the top pick. It now appears just as likely that the Raiders will target Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson in light of his posting a 4.31-second 40-yard dash and saying all the right things during an interview.

There is no way they can pick Johnson after telling BMW that he can't play unless he is down to 220. The rest of the team would lose all remaining respect for Martzinelli and question any of his rules. No chance Calvin Johnson will play under 230 and both are the same height. With as much charecter I think Johnson has I still think there is no way he will play for the Raiders. I heard he was almost hesitant to come out because he worried that Oakland might take him. If the Raiders pick him I would not be surprised to see him pull an Elway/Manning kinda thing. Does Johnson have the kind of pull that the other two had? Maybe so.He may not be on the board. I have heard chatter to the effect that the Raiders are not enamored with Russell and may be leaning towards Johnson.

The Raiders are doing all the can to sign a veteran QB to start with Calvin Johnson as their #1 and then draft a 2nd tier QB to pair with CJ later on.The Bucs are in the process of blocking that move by overpaying for Garcia and trading for a Plummer that they know will never take a snap there. After they (Bucs) secure Calvin Johnson with this tactic, they will ship Plummer off to Houston for a pick and Carr will go...who cares as long as it isn't where any of my WR's are.He may not be on the board. I have heard chatter to the effect that the Raiders are not enamored with Russell and may be leaning towards Johnson.

MJD and MIchael Turner were both SIGNIFICANTLY better in college then Booker. I expect him no higher then round 3.The draft also looks empty / wrong without Lorenzo Booker or Brian Leonard in Round 2.The other RBs are valuable sure, but I don't think either back makes it out of the bottom of Round 2. Philadelphia and several other teams are interested in Leonard.
Beware the smoke screens and the counter-hype.Cleveland would be extremely foolish to pass on ADP. Houston could also still grab a RB.It's a delicate balance - teams don't want to show their hands, but they also want to prompt other teams to trade up because they'd lose out otherwise. The question is - with Cleveland, Houston and other teams looking in other directions how far do we think the RBs might fall? It's amazing how out of date over just a weekend a draft can become.
FSU used him wrongly - don't fault the player for FSU's mistakes.Booker is a Top 7 RB amongst the rookies. After ADP and MLynch, the next 3 on several boards are Bush, Irons, and Leonard, with Booker close behind. It could be close on Booker (Round 2 vs. Round 3), but Leonard doesn't get out of Round 2.MJD and MIchael Turner were both SIGNIFICANTLY better in college then Booker. After reading this post I understand why the Lions have struggled for so long. Adding Foster as a replacement for Thomas is laughable.I said Johnson to Detroit weeks ago and will be re-affirming that stance shortly. Agreed, i really don't think their past mistakes in the draft with WR's will make them pass on the best talent in the draft.Their mistake was drafting guys with low character, not WR's.I said Johnson to Detroit weeks ago and will be re-affirming that stance shortly. as long as CJ can run a sub-4.4, he can play at 290 & double at NT in goal line defense...There is no way they can pick Johnson after telling BMW that he can't play unless he is down to 220. Tony Hunt will go ahead of all everyone you listed except Lynch and AP.FSU used him wrongly - don't fault the player for FSU's mistakes.Booker is a Top 7 RB amongst the rookies. After ADP and MLynch, the next 3 on several boards are Bush, Irons, and Leonard, with Booker close behind. I have to disagree here. BMW can't hang with Calvin Johnson when it comes to the speed and separation that are needed at the NFL level. If BMW could post a sub 4.4 40 he wouldn't be riding the pine and be on his way outta Dodge. Johnson's work ethic is >>>> BMW's, too. There is no way they can pick Johnson after telling BMW that he can't play unless he is down to 220. Not so fast. The tackle they added (Foster) isn't all that great. He's yet ANOTHER guy with a weight problem He isn't even guaranteed a starting job. He'll have to beat out J. Scott. He's a nice acquisition for DEPTH nothing more. As for the DE (white) he's never been a full-time starter (I believe he started the last couple games last year) . So there is still big needs on both lines. Don't be surprised, if they don't trade down, to see them take Thomas. Also don't be surprised to see them take Gaines Adams (who they LOVE). I love CJ but there is no way my Lions take him.I said Johnson to Detroit weeks ago and will be re-affirming that stance shortly. Not sure why they threw in a 7th rounder when they would have only had to give up a 2nd rounder in the first place (not that it makes much difference).Patriots | Welker costs two draft choices Mon, 5 Mar 2007 14:55:06 -0800Technically they still do (for now). The Pats no longer have there 2nd round pick...

I'll bet my right testicle against your left that Olsen does go in the firstOlsen isn't a first rounder either - I don't think any TEs go until Rd. 2.
Something about (too complicated for me to remember after a couple hours and several drinks) a "poison pill" in the contract about how many games he played in Florida throughout the year.FWIW, Al Davis loves SPEED in his WRs and DBs. Calvin Johnson qualifies. That is why there is so much rumor about Moss. Moss is too expensive and has quit on the team two years in a row and Davis wants him gone. If they can deal him for even a high 2nd round pick, the 1st overall will be C.J.2. 2.1 may be an O-lineman and the high 2nd may be a QB or vice versa.

Hunt's omission is noticeable, I did overlook him (I did say Top 7 yet listed six, oops).I don't know if Hunt will go third. There's varying opinions on that.Tony Hunt will go ahead of all everyone you listed except Lynch and AP.FSU used him wrongly - don't fault the player for FSU's mistakes.Booker is a Top 7 RB amongst the rookies. After ADP and MLynch, the next 3 on several boards are Bush, Irons, and Leonard, with Booker close behind. The Pats pissed off Miami management by including a poison pill in the offer sheet saying that if Welker played more than 4 games in the state of Florida in any given season, the entire $34.5 million contract would be guaranteed. You're talking about 2 very different players. In general, I find it hard to believe or respect much of anything you post on this board. But their teammates on the D-line will sleep well knowing the same garbage on the o-line is still there to give up more sacks. As good as Johnson is touted to be, I can't imagine how Detroit fans would flip out if Millen took another receiver in the first round. Come on Matt! Go get another WR!Good lord.DBs in the NFC North won't get much sleep when they're about to face the Williams/CJ combo.![]()

It's quite possible. I think most of the teams in the league will have CJ, Bowe, and Ginn higher on their boards. Lots of teams will also prefer Meachem, Jarrett, and maybe even an unheralded second tier guy like S. Smith (who could be a surprise round one pick ala Reggie Wayne). There's a lot of depth at WR in this class, so there's less incentive to reach early.Does Sidney Rice really fall to the 2nd?
