Some NFL trivia I put together.

1) Who was the first professional football player?

2) When were the rules for American football first codified?

3) How many undefeated teams have there been in NFL history?

4) Who is considered the Father of American Football?

5) Who are the 8 Heisman trophy winners in the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

6) There are 3 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame who are still active in the NFL in the capacity they were enshrined for. Who are they?

7) What team's draft class netted them the most Hall of Fame players in a single year?

8) (Edited) Which are the only two NFL team to have played in both the AFC and NFC?

9) After the 1970 merger, what was the first season that no division winners repeated from the previous year?

10) Since the NFL went to a 16 game schedule in 1978, who is the first team to have three consecutive seasons with perfect 8-0 home records?

11) The Houston Texans are a perfect 5-0 all-time against the Miami Dolphins, the second longest perfect record between active franchises. What franchise has the longest perfect all-time record against another team?

12) In one of the worst series of trades in NFL history, an NFL team traded the Cowboys the #2 overall pick used to take RB Tony Dorsett. In that trade, they received the Cowboys 1979 3rd round pick which they traded away, which the 49ers later used to take QB Joe Montana. What team was it?

13) If you rank television broadcasts from 1964 to the present based on percentage of US households watching... 2 of the top 5 slots are football related. #5 is the broadcast of Super Bowl XVI between the 49ers and the Bengals, the highest rated Super Bowl. What football-related broadcast ranks #3?

14) What NFL team has a flag on their helmet?

15) What NFL team's helmet has a logo only on one side?

16) All NFL team logos that have an animal or human head on them face to the right or straight ahead except for one. Which logo faces to the left?

17) What NFL team only made three 1st round draft picks in the regular NFL draft over a 22 year span?

Answers:

2) Rules first codified: 1876 in a meeting between Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Columbia. Also acceptable as an answer would be an 1873 meeting between Yale, Columbia, Princeton and Rutgers, though that rule set was more akin to soccer than to what we know today as football.

3) There have been 5 undefeated teams:

1920 Akron Pros (8-0-3)

1922 Canton Bulldogs (10-0-2)

1923 Canton Bulldogs (11-0-1)

1929 Green Bay Packers (12-0-1)

1972 Miami Dolphins (17-0 including playoffs).

4) Walter Camp is considered the Father of American Football. He is credited with innovations such as the snap-back from center, the system of downs, and the points system, as well as the introduction of the now-standard offensive arrangement of players (a seven-man offensive line and a four-man backfield consisting of a quarterback, two halfbacks, and a fullback). Camp was also responsible for introducing the "safety".

5) Heisman winners in the Pro Football Hall of Fame:

Barry Sanders

Marcus Allen

Earl Campbell

Tony Dorsett

OJ Simpson

Roger Staubach

Paul Hornung

Doak Walker

6) Al Davis, Dan Rooney, and Ralph Wilson Jr. ... nitpicks about Al Davis being inducted as coach/owner/AFL commission aside, all three were inducted as owners and are still active as such.

7) In 1974, the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted 4 HoF players in the first 5 rounds. WR Lynn Swann, LB Jack Lambert, WR John Stallworth, and C Mike Webster.

8) Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Bucs.

9) 1992 was the first post-merger season when no division champions from the previous year repeated. The Bills came close to repeating but lost the tiebreaker to the Dolphins.

10) The Denver Broncos went undefeated at home during the 1996, 1997, and 1998 seasons.

11) The Eagles have never been beaten by the New York Jets, with a perfect 8-0 record.

12) Seattle Seahawks

13) The OJ Simpson verdict ranks 3rd in percentage of US households viewing it.

14) Tampa Bay Bucanneers

15) Pittsburgh Steelers

16) Phileadelphia Eagles

17) From 1969 through 1990, the Washington Redskins only made three 1st round picks in the normal NFL draft. Those picks were Art Monk, Mark May, and Darrell Green. They traded the rest of their 1st round picks away.

4. George Halas

5. Staubach, OJ, Marcus Allen, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett, Paul Hornung,?

6. Al Davis,**** LeBeau, Dan Rooney

7. 74 Steelers (4) (Swann, Stallworth, Webster, and Lambert)

11. Colts over the Texans

13. Pats - Giants SB?

14. Tampa Bay

15. Pittsburg

16. Jags

17. Skins?

#4 is Walter Camp

#8 is not accurate. Tampa Bay and Seattle both meet this requirement, as Tampa Bay was in the AFC for its inaugural season and Seattle in the NFC, then swapped with Seattle the following season.

For 6, I know Davis and Rooney are...don't know the 3rd.

I'd like to add a question, if I may...who's the first "Mr. Irrelevant" to play in a SB?

I didn't know a lot of these and clicked the spoiler box, but #17 is very impressive and makes me wonder why more teams don't do this.

But then, when all some teams get for a 1st+ is Roy Williams, that explains it.

Thanks, came up with that one myself and missed them when I was scouring the season results looking for anyone who switched.

#3 is incorrect.
Thought you included playoffs...if just regular season1.1934 Chicago Bears: 13-0

2.1942 Chicago Bears: 11-0

3.1972 Miami Dolphins: 14-0

4.2007 New England Patriots: 16-0
I was including playoffs. So from that list only the '72 Dolphins qualifies as the other three were defeated in playoff games. But there are still other teams in NFL history who had undefeated seasons.Incidentally, this question was the one that started me down the road of making this trivia list in the first place. NFL Network was showing a Top 10 Records That Will Never Be Broken episode, and in talking about the '72 Dolphins they mentioned that the Dolphins were actually not the only NFL team to go undefeated.

Only the 1948 Browns had a true perfect season—but in the All-America Football Conference, not the NFL proper. Unlike the AFL records, AAFC records are not considered NFL records, as not all team entered the NFL.

Right, the question doesn't ask for true perfect seasons. If it did the answer would be 1, the 1972 Dolphins. It asks for undefeated seasons. of which there have been 5.
