Nick Barnett signs with Buffalo (1 Viewer)

Adam Schefter is reporting the Bills have agreed to terms with ILB Nick Barnett on a three-year, $12 million contract.

If healthy, not a bad get for the Bills after losing Posluszny. Considering the price tag, Barnett's experience in a 3-4 and productivity, one could argue the Bills came out ahead.

Interested to hear what Jene and the crew think Barnett's upside potential/tier is in Buffalo...

"If healthy." Man, that pretty much describes the entire Buffalo defense, including the recently departed Poz. Although I think Barnett's upside and fit in Buffalo's defense is better.

love this pickup. hope he can stay healthy and get back to his old form.

at that price, he's barely making more than Brad Smith got. could be a steal.

also, Merriman looked pretty good to me at training camp today.

It's been 2 years since the knee, last year it was his wrist so hope he stays healthy.

Just a FWIW:

The Bills spent $42M on Drayton Florence, Nick Barnett and Brad Smith. The Jags spent $42M on Poz alone.

I'll take Florence, Barnett and Smith. Nice job Buffalo.

I haven't heard much yet about Barnett. I'm assuming he fills Poz's empty spot as the every down ILB? I'd like to think he's going to be really solid this year, as I think I can sneak him in as a LB2 type player at a much lower cost.

What are you guys expecting out of Barnett now that he has a nice home? Without much proof out of camp, is it safe to assume he's a lock as Poz's replacement?

I don't think he can start practicing with the team until tomorrow, but I think he's pretty much a lock to start in Poz's spot as long as he's healthy.

Thanks for the info. What was his injury last year? Is he completely recovered from it? I just can't seem to find anything about him anywhere.

Broken wrist early 2010. Torn ACL 2008. Not much reason for concern with the wrist injury. He was released because they could get Bishop (who was playing well) much cheaper and believed Hawk was a better roster fit (age, for SILB, etc.) than Barnett. There's lots to like with this situation. Still plenty of opportunity, DL improved with Dareus, not too much competition for tackles from the corners/FS and Andra Smith/George Wilson are solid but not spectacular. Barnett will play the most favorable spot in the defense for tackles and is a lock to play every down.It might be a little optimistic (and not really indicative of his true ranking with regard to tiers), but Barnett's currently in my top 12.

ayodele put up great numbers the 2nd half of the year. where does he fit in now?
he's a UFA. don't think he's in the Bills plans right now.they have Barnett, Davis, Sheppard, Moats, Torbor, White all set to play inside right now.

I think Barnett is a possible steal. Some people may forget how valuable he was in IDP leagues just a couple of years ago before losing time on the knee and wrist injuries. I think that his value increases going from a crowded LB corps in GB to the Bills where he seems to be the major playmaker in the Bill LB corps. I suspect that because of the injuries over the last couple of years that he will not be too high on many guys boards and will easily outperform his ADP. I am glad I kept him in the dynasty leagues that I have him.
