wasn't Pujols just coming off his single-A season? Anyway, i thought he DID make the opening day roster in 01.just looked him up on B-R. Only 104 plate appearances above LOW-A.Pujols went from a 954 OPS in low-A in 2000 to a 1013 OPS in St. Louis in 2001.Encyclopedia Brown said:Still find it hilarious how the "Professor" kept Chad Hutchinson on the Opening Day roster over Pujols, and only brought Pujols up north when Hutchinson blew out his elbow.
Yeah he was called up a few weeks in, I thought Tatis got hurt or something and Pujols came up to fill in for him.I remember it because he was a DL pickup in one of my leagues for Gary DiSarcina. Now, why DiSarcina was on anyone's team to begin with, that I cannot answer...wasn't Pujols just coming off his single-A season? Baseball Reference has him with 161 games played in his rookie season.Yeah he was called up a few weeks in, I thought Tatis got hurt or something and Pujols came up to fill in for him.I remember it because he was a DL pickup in one of my leagues for Gary DiSarcina. Bobby Bonilla had a hamstring injury in one of the final exhibition games. That allowed Pujols to open the season with the Cards, and the rest is history.Baseball Reference has him with 161 games played in his rookie season.Yeah he was called up a few weeks in, I thought Tatis got hurt or something and Pujols came up to fill in for him.I remember it because he was a DL pickup in one of my leagues for Gary DiSarcina. We can have a Barry Bonds v Albert discussion at our cornhole in February.Best player I have ever seen. Its beginning to not even be close.
The number of people in baseball who totally missed the boat on a guy who will go down as one of the all-time greats is staggering.Still find it hilarious how the "Professor" kept Chad Hutchinson on the Opening Day roster over Pujols, and only brought Pujols up north when Hutchinson blew out his elbow.
I stand corrected. I guess my fantasy league missed the boat on him by a few weeks, maybe that's what I was thinking of.Bobby Bonilla had a hamstring injury in one of the final exhibition games. Where would you have put him 4th? I don't think he should have been any lower then that.Ryan Howard really did not deserve to be third in the voting.
Barry pre roids was good - but not near Pujols good. No one talked about him as one of the greatest ever, in the discussion with Jimmy Foxx and Musial.Wait - CORNHOLE? 4th or 5thPujolsRamirezFielderHoward/TulowotzkiOr something along those lines. He certainly did not deserve any votes over Hanley Ramirez. Fielder had one more HR, same number of RBI, but his OPS was 1.014 to Howard's .931.Where would you have put him 4th? It's a toss up between those guys. I think the voters took into consideration the fact that Fielder played on a team with a losing record. Not that I agree with that line of thinking, but it does exist.4th or 5thPujolsRamirezFielderHoward/TulowotzkiOr something along those lines.
