No "Official Ninth Pick" Thread? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
sorry if there is one, but i have been searching and have not found a thread for people with the ninth pick.

i had the option of choosing the ninth or the tenth or the eleventh pick and decided on nine, hoping a RB i like might fall to me.

in mocks i am seeing that i have a decent shot to grab gore or barber.

i would then rather grab moss than portis or lynch were gore and barber to be gone.

if i do grab moss in round one, which i consider a worse case scenario, i would then likely just go for it and then grab another top notch WR in round two. someone like andre johnson or edwards.

i am seeing a lot of decent RBs falling down to round six, whereas the WR options by round five seem a bit yucky (a guy like coles or bowe or white or evans would be my WR2).

if i can grab gore or barber, i will probably then either go for jones-drew in round two (though there will be plenty of RB value later and i am not sure he warrants such a high pick) and then maybe hope for some sort of megatron/boldin/holmes/cotchery/marshall mishmash in rounds three and four and then in round five go back to a RB i like...maybe even reach for perry. or perhaps someone like graham or ronnie brown is out there. in round six i will probably find i dislike all of the WRs and will decide just to wait on a WR3 and grab someone like meacham or courtney taylor much later in the draft and i will greedily grab another RB like deangelo williams.

i don't know...anyone have any thoughts?

and if there is a ninth pick thread, i apologize and please delete.

Zoos, what are your scoring parameters? I also have the 9th slot and like you have searched to no avail. We get 6pts for all TD's, bonuses for length, start 1 qb, 2 rb, 3 wr, 1 te, 1 k, 1 De, 1 lb, 1 db. My guess is our first 8 gone will be LT, AP, Westy, Addai, Brady, SJax, Barber then Moss or Gore. That leaves me one of the two. My only thought was with our scoring, possibly going Romo in the 2nd. If I don't get a qb then, all of the top 4 (brady, romo, manning and brees) will be gone and I am not ready to risk a 4th or 5th on Anderson/Rothlisberger.

hello. i'm in a 12 team PPR.

doing a mock right now and i went barber/andre johnson/calvin johnson/cotchery/selvin young/perry (a reach? i dunno i guess).

if things started like that in real life, i would be pretty happy. i do not know about you. i am someone who will not take a QB until late in the draft. i would rather not burn a pick in the first eight rounds on someone. will target schaub later on and if i miss out, what the heck maybe i will grab o'sullivan. btw, after perry i grabbed deangelo williams and then ricky williams. so i am sort of liking this concept of taking 3 WRs after grabbing a RB (provided barber or gore falls)

i have the 9th in the wcoff.i still can't decide between lynch or barber and then in the 2nd round between a. johnson or fitzgerald.i do think the best strategy is to draft a rb then wr in the beginning rounds.. that allows you the flexibility for the players that fall in the 3rd and 4th.the 9th position in the wcoff format might be the worst position in the draft. what does everyone else think of the best strategy?? maybe not players but overall strategy to draft?

what is wcoff scoring? less for passing TDs? right?

i don't know.

sorry just trying to give an idea of quality of players i was seeing.

i will maintain it seems to me that WRs are disappearing quicker than RBs and you could find a RB you can live with in rounds 5 or 6 but might have a little trouble finding a WR. wcoff is PPR too, right?

lynch and barber is tough since lynch will get more touches. i am not feeling good about the BUF offensive line at the moment, though.

there is a chance lynch would fall to you in round two and if not, maybe mcgahee would. or grant. or portis even. these guys all seem sort of the same. lynch has an easy schedule apparently, but you can't rely on that.

Finally, a 9th pick thread, lol. I am in a 1 qb, 2 rb, 3 wr, te, k, dst 12 team PPR league. I have been mocking like crazy and I find (on fantasyfootballcalculator.com and in between some idiot ruining all the mocks on there) that I can get usually get Gore or Moss. I would rather have Gore to start, but if I do take Moss I sometimes follow that up with Andre/Fitz/Edwards. If another guy like Holt falls, I grab him to start WR WR WR. In one of the recent 3WRs starts, I was able to get FWP and Graham, followed by Lendale and D Williams. I don't foresee that happening in my real draft but I don't know since this is a brand new league this year. On occasion I would draft MJD/LJ followed by WR/WR, to give me something like Gore, MJD, Holt, Calvin/Cotch/sometimes Witten.

Can some of you 9th pickers in PPR 12 teams post your teams? I am curious as to how else I may alter my plan.

Had my draft Fri. night. 9th pick. All Td's 6 pts, 1 pt 10 yds rush/rec, 1 pt 25 yds passing, no ppr, 12 teams redraft. We start 1 qb, 2 rb, 3 wr, te, k, def. Also have roster limits.

1-9 are:

1-Gore

2-Portis-couldn't beleive he was here, was planning on TO/Wayne

3-Holt

4-Holmes

5-Cal. Johnson

6-Edge (surpprised he was still here as others needed RB's)

7-Garrad-(Qb's went fast and I was 11 out of 12 to get a Qb)

8-Campbell (only pick i was iffy on. Farve still on board but I passed him up)

9-Heap

Drafted Sunday. 1/25 passing, 1/10 rushing & receiving, 0.75 PPR, all TDs 6pts, 10 team. 1QB,2RB,3WR,WR/RB,TE,K,DEF

From the 9th spot

1. (9) Marion Barber (pleasant surprise with Portis going high)

2. (12) Terrell Owens (got him in most mocks)

3. (29) Steve Smith

4. (32) Torry Holt

5. (49) Kellen Winslow

6. (52) Ben Roethlisberger

7. (69) Edgerrin James (glad to see him here)

8. (72) Selvin Young

Drafted yesterday 12 teams-6 pt TD's-18 rounds-.5 PPR Must maintain a roster of 2 starting teams w/ 2 wildcards of anything

4-Plax

5-Calvin Johnson

6-Stewart(Cris Johnson went pick b-4 Damn)

7-Bowe

Jets-(at Oakland on Jax bye)

I'm happy, just wanted Cris Johnson and I would have been ecstatic. 6 RB's can open up trade talks

12 team, standard scoring, 6 points for all TDs 1qb, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE and Flex (rb, wr, te) D K

1 Moss

2 Edwards (lynch, MJD and LJ were gone and no other RBs I was crazy about)

3 Turner (Reverse third)

4 Calvin Johnson

5 Edge (meh, but should be solid)

6 Ricky (worth the risk if Brown is limited)

7 Chambers

8 Shockey

9 Chris Johnson (big upside potential)

10 Chris Perry (very suprised he was still there)

11 Warner (Had just heard he was named the starter, but now maybe not)

12 Schaub

13 Delhomme

14 Andre Hall (ya never know)

15 Jags

16 Schobee

Nothing to get excited about but should compete. Having Turner as your number one back is scary, but I just don't feel that safe with any of the backs after the first seven. Glad I waited on the QBs as these three should be a good QBBC. This is the first year we did the reverse third and it really did create a more balanced draft in the first 5 rounds. Nobody really stood out and who has the best team will depend a lot on break out players in the mid rounds. :lmao:

This is eerily similar to my draft. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, ppr1 - Gore2 - Bush, like him better than Portis in ppr but Portis was there3 - Holt4 - Holmes5 - Evans (wish CJ was available)6 - Winslow7 - SD (I always take D early)8 - Garrard9 - Norwood10 - Mendenhall

Overall I got most of the players I wanted and need a few people to really come through. Hope it helps

just had a 12 team ppr draft...i feel like a fool because i deviated from my strategy of going RB WR WR WR RB RB

1.steven jackson (shocked he fell)

2.larry johnson (in all the rankings i saw he was above the remaining WRs and i gambled guys i liked would fall)

3.anquan boldin

4.wes welker

5.lav coles (here is where i got unhappy...i just don't like coles but there was nothing left...i could have gone with lee evans but i didn't feel like going through that again and if i didn't take a WR here there would have been even less)

6.chris perry (sorry, i love him in ppr...it is a gamble but could pay off)

7.ricky williams

8.chester taylor

9.jerry porter (only WR left with a shot to be a decent #1)

10.owen daniels

11.derek anderson (shocked he fell so far and i do not even like him, but what the heck)

12.andre hall (GL back, could get more work)

13.courtney taylor

14.seattle D/ST

15.josh brown

boldin and coles and welker are probably fine. i might deal chester taylor and coles for cotchery to the guy who took AD. but this is my 9th spot draft.

hoofff, good for you...I think you could have waited on perry. It's almost as if taking him that high makes him less valuable since youre needing him to perfom well and missing out on others with a bit more reliability. however, the potential is there, so you dont know until you know...

well....i agree but any back i took rather than perry was a committee back. be it lendale white or his partner or stewart/williams...i know what you mean but in my mind most RBs there had equal questions. stewart was gone, actually. but you know what i mean. no RBs there were clean. and i happen to like perry the best, upside-wise. there were no WRs i liked coming back around and the only RB i missed out on waiting for my next pick was deangelo williams.

but since this is not about me, i will say that i regret not taking colston or andre johnson over LJ. maybe if LJ ends up top ten i will be happy, but as of now, i wish welker and boldin were my 2 and 3 WRs, not my top 2 guys. so i recommend RB/WR/WR/WR to people in the ninth slot.

Thanks Zoos for the update. Can't believe SJax fell to you at 9. I think your RB's are solid, and Anderson falling so late was great. I have mocked this a thousand times and it is tough to turn down a guy with top 5 potential for a wr that has injury concerns, tough call, but thanks for the heads up.

ok i dealt coles and taylor for cotchery and pierre thomas, so now my team stands as...

QB-anderson

WR-boldin, welker, cotchery, porter, coutrney taylor (might drop him ASAP for josh morgan)

RB-jax, LJ, perry, ricky williams, hall, thomas

TE-daniels

to me, this team is fine. has a shot to compete.

stryker, i would say this to you...the thing about ninth is that if people go crazy taking manning and brady and moss before you, a good RB is going to fall. a worst case scenario is portis or lynch. which is a tough call. i might just go WR WR RB RB RB in that case. i still maintain more RB value will fall than WR value into the middle rounds so it is better to take a WR in round 2. but then i got tempted by LJ and if jones-drew was there, same thing might have happened. and i would have gambled a WR i liked would maybe fall to me in round five. as it turns out, that didn't happen. your draft might be better. so i guess i would maybe change my tune and say take best value in round 2. portis and lynch is a toss-up though. jeez.

Here's mine -12 team league. I totally f-d my week 4 BYE week with my WR's, but otherwise it;s a solid team. Need MJD to live up to projections...

Pick Pos Player Team

01.09 WR1 Randy Moss NE/4

02.04 RB11 Maurice Jones-Drew Jac/7

03.09 RB15 Reggie Bush NO/9

04.04 RB16 Edgerrin James Ari/7

05.09 WR15 Roy Williams Det/4

06.04 TE3 Tony Gonzalez KC/6

07.09 WR26 Nate Burleson Sea/4

11.09 QB15 Aaron Rodgers GB/8

12.04 PK3 Adam Vinatieri Ind/4

13.09 WR37 Kevin Walter Hou/8

14.04 DEF9 Washington Was/10

Sorry, but it was agreed on last year that if you have the 9th pick, you should pull a Minnesota and let the guy picking 10th go ahead of you. Then pick Barber or Lynch.

Had my money league draft yesterday. How did I do guys? All TD's=6. PPR 1pt. QB 1 pt every 25 yds. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 WR/RB, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D/ST.

1.09- Marshawn Lynch RB(BRADY was still available! He was best available on my cheatsheet but did horrible on mocks picking him up at 9)

2.04- Clinton Portis RB(can't believe he was available! Bush was ranked higher on my cheat sheet but Portis seemed to drop too low)

3.09- Brandon Jacobs RB

4.04- Jason Witten TE (first TE off board)

5.09- Greg Jennings WR

6.04- Dwayne Bowe WR

7.09- Matt Schaub QB

8.04- Vikings D/ST (First D/ST off board)

9.09- Reggie Brown WR

10.04- Jake Delhomme QB

11.09- Kevin Walter WR

12.04- Maurice Morris RB

13.09- Nick Folk K (first K off board)

14.04- Mark Clayton WR

15.09- Fred Jackson RB (Lynch handcuff)

16.04- Derek Hagan WR

Did i make a mistake at 1 and 2? DD and cheat sheets told me to draft Brady 1.09 and Bush 2.04 but i went with gut instead.
