Figured NOMAAAAAHHH at least deserved mention in this forum. Yeah, these one-day contracts to retire with a certain team are lame and stupid, but at the height of his powers, Nomar was probably the most exciting Red Sox player of my lifetime (aside from Pedro Martinez, who is in a class by himself).

Thanks for the memories, Nomar. Unfortunately, my most prominent memory of you will be the time you refused to play in the game when Jeter nearly killed himself diving into the stands making perhaps the gutsiest play I've ever seen on a baseball diamond, but nonetheless, you were still one hell of a ballplayer.

That's all I've got.

My biggest memory is him turning down a huge extension from the Sox in order to test the market. Ouch.
The Globe and Herald both quoted sources on Tuesday as saying that the Red Sox offered Garciaparra a four-year deal last spring worth $60 million. Garciaparra rejected it, instead seeking a longer deal worth as much as $17 million a year.

I think that it's touching that he asked for this. I honestly had no idea on how he felt about the Red Sox after the whole ugliness leading up to him being traded. It's nice that the Red Sox can hold up one former star player who they're still on good terms with for a change.
The current ownership/management group has often been accused of spreading dirt around about star players just before they're traded, not re-signed, etc. And the fanbase buys into it every time.
