Will be in the Red River/Angel Fire/ Taos area for a few days, anyone ever been there and offer suggestions? We will have 2 families and 5 total kids ranging from 7-15. A couple years ago we went with this same family and rented a cabin in Ouchita national forest in Arkansas. The most obscure vacation destinations are kind of our thing.

The cabin is located in Angel fire, but no issue driving to those other towns.

Area activities:

White water rafting
zip lining
mountain biking
2 natural hot springs where the top google reviews are talking about nudity
jeep/atv rentals
rock climbing lessons
will need to go into red river or taos for food/shopping one evening
fishing
pontoon boat rental at eagle's nest

Any other ideas?

My wife’s friend has a cabin in Angel Fire, and she spent some time there when she was younger. I can see if she has any ideas. I’m actually going to be out in Taos and Las Vegas, NM later this month — going with my wife’s family and I’m more just tagging along, so not sure full agenda.

In terms of some other towns and stuff to see. If you wanted to drive out to Chimayo, that is a pretty cool town. The Santuario is a pilgrimage destination, and the Rancho de Chimayo a great restaurant. Wikkid highly recommended that to me that back in the day.

If the kids like trains, could also drive up to the Cumbres-Toltec Railroad — steam train that travels through the Rockies. That is probably a couple hours to the northwest.

Abiquiu has some Georgia O’Keefe connections. Los Alamos is a couple of hours to the west — they have a historic site for the Manhattan Project, and a good science museum.

If you wanted to drive to Santa Fe, some cool stuff there. Kids would probably like Meow Wolf.

But maybe more what you wanted to do. Your list more outdoorsy stuff, and I’m more of indoors type and into history/art.

Can’t help with New Mexico, but we have fiends with a cabin in the Qutchita Wilderness near Mt. Ida. Love that area lots of water, trees, and good rock hounding area we go once a year, sometimes twice.

Wrong season :frown:

When they get snow, Taos has great steeps, so I bet the hiking/biking is excellent.

I’d consider visiting the Earthships

They have it at angelfire and i am staying on a slopeside cabin. I can hit the lift right out my door, i bet i can get in a run in the morning and evening a couple days. It is going to depend how much it costs and how easy it is to rent a bike. I won't want to ditch the family for more than 30 minutes, but i doubt a single run would take that long.

Edit:
Holy cow, just saw bike rental prices, for that price i need to go to the bike store tomorrow and buy a hitch carrier. I will bring my bike.

Awesome, will stop there for sure. We will be driving up from El Paso, that will be on the way.

My wife suggested Cimarron as a town to visit in the area. Historic Wild West town. St. James Hotel hosted folks like Jesse James, Wyatt Earp, and Billy the Kid.
