Now the 2018 Assistant Coach Thread (2 Viewers)

Yahoo 6x6 (incl. OPS) I put in a claim for Chris Taylor, who got dropped but now is going to be the starting SS obviously.

If I don’t get him, is Solarte going to sustain what he’s done recently? Marwin also is on waivers and I have Kingery currently on my roster in that multi-position role.

Marwin was on the juice imo

I like Solarte.  The walk rate and ISO have spiked together (usually a good sign) and his approach looks way more aggressive than he used in the past. Nothing in his stats looks “lucky” to me. He’s on a new team and a new league, so there is at least some explanation for why something may have changed for him.

From what I posted in the regular season thread yesterday morning....

We're chasing a 1/2 a season of bad Goldy and there's no end in sight.

The last 1/4 of his 2017 (8/16 forward) was .228/.303/.409, YTD (as of yesterday) in 2018, .211/.337/.374

.... to add

K rate is up, BABIP is still at .300 so it’s not like he’s been unlucky and his soft hit rate is about double his career number

Personally, I want nothing to do with him.

Would it be crazy to consider trading Blackmon for Bauer.  I still have JD, Upton  and Benintendi in the outfield.  My rotation right now is Verlander, Happ, Manaea and then a bunch of guys who are inconsistent and will rarely get me a quality start (Folty, Chatwood, Soroka, Lucchesi, German, Cahill).  We need to start 6 SPs (weekly lineup).  I feel like my OF is still decent enough and the upgrade in pitching would be huge.

Bauer is just one dumb adjustment from being mediocre again. I love Blackmon so that's a no-go for me. How about Benintendi if he won't take Upton?

He's going to have some hot head moments, but I think he's progressed to the point in which they're just that - moments.  Not the ratio killing stretches he was prone to up until about a year ago.

I’m having second thoughts on offering any of them.  I have no outfield depth so it may be important to hold onto all 4 of them in case of an injury.  My pitching is bad but so is most of the other teams.

What is the deal with Osuna...when is he most likely to play again, or should I just drop him...I"ve got limited roster space and Kind of want to dump him, but we start 3 RPs in a 12 team league so he has value.

Thoughts?

Also, anybody have strong opinions on S. Dominguez, the RP for the Phillies?  He was my Osuna replacement but I've never seen him throw...sounds like he has nasty stuff.

He does, but I'm not sure I see Kapler committing to him as the closer. They might not commit to anyone. Who knows with them?

His court date is June 18th, so he isn’t playing prior to that. I picked him up in my categories league over Holland but I’m not confident. Even if charges are dismissed MLB could slap him (like he slapped his lady amirite?) with a 30 to 180 game suspension, with time served.

He’s so good I’m I’m a moderate hold mode, but in shallow leagues he’s a drop.

New to fantasy this year and trying to figure out keeper trade value.

10 team 5x5, with $260 auction budget. AL only.

rebuilding my team. Is an expiring Manaea  for Gleyber Torres at $5 for next 3 years a horrible overpay?

If you're getting Torres, run, don't stop.

If you mean a horrible overpay for Manaea then yes

@Eephus - What happens at 2B with SFG once everyone is functional? Is this Hanson's job?
Joe Panik will get the lion's share of time at 2B.

Hanson is pretty marginal defender but he's a right handed bat who can fill in for Panik or Crawford against a lefty.  He'll replace Kelby Tomlinson who appears to have caught a case of the yips recently.

Kris Bryant bores me. Thinking about trading him for Goldy + Vlad Jr? Have Murphy coming back soon to plug in at 2B and I can slide Jose Ramirez over to third.

I could probably eek something else outta the guy too

Was offered

Goldy + Acuna + Vlad

for

Bryant + Hader

Trying to squeeze him for more. Or somehow not giving up Hader

H2H 5x5 redraft

He accepted my counter

Goldy, Acuna, Vlad, Archer

for

Bryant, Hader

Feel like I should feel good about that, but am already concerned

Robbie Ray and Vlad Jr. are on the waiver wire in my league (redraft, HTH, 5 x 5.) Would you pick either or both up if you had to drop one/two of:

C - Molina (DL), Suzuki

1B - Freeman

2B - Altuve, Albies (UTIL)

SS- Story

3B- Longoria

IF- Solarte

OF- Springer, Benintendi, N. Cruz

UTIL- Hosmer

DL-Acuna

SP - Cole, G. Richards, Pivetta, Foltynewicz, G. Gonzalez, Lester, Bundy, Archer, Darvish (DL)

RP - N. Jones, S. Oh, Melancon :puke:

If this is a one catcher league, easily drop one of Suzuki or Molina for Vlad.

I'd probably (maybe?) take a chance on Ray over Bundy

It is.  Molina supposed to be activated today, so I can drop Suzuki, who's been a fill-in.  Any notion on when (if?) Vlad gets called up?  If it's soon, I'd like to jump on him, but if they're going to keep him down most of the year, he'd just be taking up space as this isn't a dynasty/keeper league.

Bundy is probably the guy I would drop for Ray.  Tough call there.  Bundy has been so wildly inconsistent, he gets lit up one start, throws a 14K complete game the next.

I'd punt Chris Archer into the sun, either way.  If you can pick up Robbie Ray after punting him, that's just a bonus.
Archer has been really solid of late.  Last 4 starts before picking up the mild injury : 23.2 IP, 3 ER (1.14 ERA), 24 K.  He's also about 94% owned, so I would love to include him in a 2-for-1 deal to open the roster spot, but I just can't find anyone willing to trade at all, let alone for Archer.

No, but if an arm like Robbie Ray is available then I think you can justify adding Vlad and dropping one of your other arms, especially if you only start 2 RP.

We have 2 RP spots and 3 P spots, so you can start 5 relievers and cycle your starters through the 3 SP spots.  Had I realized this pre-draft (I signed up for a league with 1 open spot that was literally seconds away from drafting) - I would have loaded up on closers.  Instead, I went SP and bat-heavy through the first 10-12 rounds and then had to switch to autodraft and ended up with no viable closers.  So, I dumped all my RPs except a couple middle relievers and went SP-heavy. It's worked pretty well so far (tied for 1st place) but ceding the SV category every week has gotten on my nerves, especially in weeks I lose the category 1-0 or 2-0.  Over the course of the season, I've been picking up speculative saves guys (hence Oh and Melancon) to fill the RP spots.

I could drop Archer, Bundy, or Pivetta and pick up Vlad (or Ray for that matter) but all my other guys have been too good to dump.  Darvish is in a DL spot so dropping him doesn't free up a roster spot.  I'll have a decision to make when he comes back on whether to keep him over one of my other players.  I'm just surprised Ray is out there and kind of want to pick him up just to block anyone else from getting him.  His K rate was phenomenal early in the year, even when his ERA/WHIP was higher than I believe it will be ROS.

I'm just surprised Ray is out there
Gonna guess that's replacement value fueled - can't think of (m)any formats I'd roster Oh over him, but if that's the case in this league then so be it.  Not knowing anything beyond what you've posted I'd swap them out then set my sights on more reasonable (volatile) RP targets than Jansen - guys like Osuna, Vazquez, and Bear Claw immediately come to mind.  Offer SP's for them until you have a potentially competitive RP corps then work the wire to replenish your then depleted SP corps.

Or just punt RP as you have been doing - as you said, you're in 1st place despite only really having one and that's just a recent development.  As is you're in a good spot and with movement you're probably going to both increase your risk and potential reward.  With only 30 closers out there and let's be honest - only 20 anyone really wants anything to do with, you're going to have to over pay to rehab the problem now, so - is it worth it?

You make some pretty strong points.  I think if (when) this trade offer gets rejected, I'm just going to dump Suzuki and one of Jones/Oh/Melancon and just grab Guererro and Ray.  Thanks for the advice, man (and everyone that answered.)

Considering offering Donaldson + Manaea for Soto.  3 year keeper league and I would only have 1 year left on Donaldson and 3 years for Soto.  I have plenty of pitching depth so losing Manaea has no effect on me.  My outfield is already pretty great (Blackmon, JD, Benintendi, Upton, Kemp) but I feel like I shouldn't miss out on an opportunity to get 3 years of Soto.  And I would likely be starting him over Upton in the utility slot.  At worst, I build up a lot of depth.  Any thoughts?

If I'm the Soto owner then I'm stabbing you in the eye with a corkscrew.
It was actually his idea to make the trade.  He just wanted to see Donaldson come back and play a few games first.  But after tonight, I have a feeling he's not making that trade anymore.      :(

ETA - Are you saying that I'm getting ripped off?  It seems like Soto could end up being a difference maker, Donaldson is on the decline and I'm getting 3 years of keeper status on a potential stud.

Manaea is trash, a replaceable WW asset.

Donaldson is a buy low.

That said, Juan Soto is my favorite baseball player. He's some crazy combo of Don Mattingly and Rod Carew.  I  his face, and he's a 400 OBP guy with 35 homer upside.  It's just so easy for him, that's the thing.  Soto thinks baseball is easy.

Make the deal, you won't regret it.

ETA: I'm the biggest Juan Soto fan in the world.

Need a start in points league this weekend....no negatives, only wins, K's and innings matter.

Urena @ BAL (Gausman)

Nova vs CIN (Castillo)

Who you rolling with?

Guy countered:

He gives me Snell, McCullers and Soto

I give him Verlander and Donaldson.

Again it’s a 3 year keeper league.  My rotation would still be very good with Snell, McCullers, Folty, Musgrove, Stripling, Cahill, Happ, Gibson, Soroka and Covey.  I already have the best lineup in the league and would be adding Soto.  Only thing holding me back is that I currently have best record and most points and I don’t want to mess with karma.

Who would be your 3B and how many years can you keep Snell/McCullers?  No limit on the number of players you can keep?  I'd have already hit accept, I think.

I can keep up to 8 players.  My 3B is Rendon so I think I'm ok there.  He's starting to have 2nd thoughts about Donaldson so the offer may now be Snell + Soto for Verlander.  Since I only have one more year left for Verly and I would have a full 3 years for Snell and Soto, I think I'm going to accept.  I don't think Snell is THAT much of a downgrade from Verlander (head to head points league) and having 3 years of Soto makes me a little tingly.

Yeah I’d do either deal

Yeah I’d do either deal
Thanks.  I’m going for it - hopefully he doesn’t back out.  I’m instantly turning his team into the favorite this year (he would have Sale, Verlander, Kluber, Trout and Harper) but my team would still be very stacked for this year and the future (will keep guys like Benintendi, JD, Blackmon, Soto, Abreu, Lindor, Rendon).  And I have a comfortable lead with regards to record and points (of which both pay out a nice chunk).

Offered Stanton, Greinke, and Solarte for my Bregman and Senzel.

It's a keeper league letting you keep five guys, with kept players eligible to be kept for up to five years at their auction draft price with just a $2 bump each year.  So, I can keep Bregman for $7 and Senzel for $3 next year (I've still got a few more years of Bregman and Senzel hasn't been a keeper yet).  I don't really see any of the guys that I'd be getting as keepers because their value would be too high (and in Solarte's case, because he's Solarte).

I'm currently in 4th place.  Batter-wise, I'd be replacing Bregman at 3B and Smoak/Meadows at UT with Solarte and Stanton.  Greinke may give me an excuse to dump L.Weaver or C.Anderson.

It does not seem like a bad offer for going all-in.  Giving up Bregman is tough though.  He appears to be turning into a stud that I can build around given his keeper price.  I feel like I've got a solid young core that can keep my team closer to the top for the next few years (also have Torres and Robles pretty cheap), and it would be giving up a chunk of that.

ETA: Weekly H2H league. So, not trying to boost any one category in particular.

Senzel is hitting 333/436 with 5 SB since coming off the DL May 29.  The power took some time, but he has 4 XBH and went yard in the last week.  He's coming up soon and even if his bat takes some time is a good bet to be better than Solarte instantly because of his wheels.  It depends on format, but Bregman has actually been better than Stanton this year.  Giancarlo can undo all of that in a couple of weeks, but it continuing isn't a crazy thought. While it's safe to assume Greinke would upgrade your rotation when it counts, is it worth giving up more than a half dozen years of Bregman and Senzel in their prime?

I wouldn't do it.

*Disclaimer: I generally don't consider all-in deals in H2H unless blown away in the first place though.  The best team often doesn't win.

Hijacking slightly but where is Senzel going to play? Cincinnati has top 10 players/possible all stars at both the 2B and 3B positions. Yes that sounds ridiculous based on their names (Gennett, Suarez) but from the start of the 2016 season both are pretty great hitters.

With Peraza young himself at SS, I'm not sure Senzel is coming up soon at all and if he is, does he get enough PAs to matter?

Scooter is a UFA after 19, so he's probably their best trade candidate.  Will there be a buyer?   If not there are a lot of plan B's that ultimately end with him in the OF and Senzel at 2nd.

Have they written off Senzel at SS?  If no then Peraza won't necessarily keep him down.  I just noticed Senzel hasn't been getting any run at short this year.

I think he started there for the first time this week. I agree the Reds should trade Gennett, I just don't have much belief they actually will.
