Now the 2018 Assistant Coach Thread (1 Viewer)

Felix sitting out there on the WW in a 10 team / 185 starts per year league. Any reason to pick him up? Slated for at least one more rehab start before coming back.

If you can stash him on DL for the next 10 days that would be better.  He's not gonna start until next Wednesday at the earliest.

I'd say Felix is like a high 3s ERA guy now but I think his WHIP comes down into the 1.2s.  He offers ks, Seattle should be a better team in the 2nd half, and I'd say he's a borderline top 50 pitcher.  If CC Sabathia can have a renaissance, so can Felix.  He's still just 31.

Drop Ian Kennedy for Felix?

Getting calls on Bellinger.

I have plenty of 1B to fall back on (EE, Bour, Reynolds) and LF (K Davis, Holiday). Yes, we do outfield specific. So more worried about losing production vs position.

Offer I'm considering is Bellinger / Nova and a pick for

JDM, Schoop, Osuna and Colome and a lower pick

Total points league.no h2h BS. Daily lineups, so I like having backups at each position roostered and I currently don't have a backup 2B. For starting pitching, it is a start count of 185 games for the season. Once you pass 185 starts, you get no SP points. Relievers can be used as much as possible. So personally, I put a premium on closers here since they're basically free pitching points.

Currently in 2nd place. Guy in 1st is way ahead of 185 pace, so he's not a concern. 3rd place team is stacked, but banged up.

Thoughts?

***The wildcard in this. I can keep Bellinger forever. Redraft, deal would have been done once I saw it.

Closers still take a hit in any points league. I get that they don't count towards limit, but still wouldn't trade stud bat for closers in a keeper points league

Also, Osuna just stated that he's seeking help for mental anxiety.   :(      Not sure when he will return.  Good for him to get professional help.

Got offered Mark Reynolds for Villar. I don't really need the steals, and Reynolds is hitting, but I am conflicted. I probably shouldn't be. I have Abreu at 1B, and I could use the power

Villar is kinda the odd man out right now, I'd do that deal in a second.

Devenski is back on the wire (Yahoo 6x6) ... I had him earlier this season and he was awesome for me, but I had to cut someone when I got a rash of injuries on offense.

The problem is that the most likely candidate to drop probably is Verlander. I'm pretty set for the rest of my pitching staff, but is it too early to cut bait on Mr. Upton?

Also ... cut bait on Lucroy and take a stab at Tyler Flowers, or no?

And now Britton is coming off the DL. Need to drop 1-2 players (depending on if I grab Devenski):

C: Lucroy

1B: Freeman, Myers (OF)

2B: Dozier

SS: Correa

3B: Carpenter (1B/2B)

OF: Harper, Pollock, A. Garcia

UT: C. Taylor, Happ

SP: Scherzer, Klubot, deGrom, Quintana, C. Martinez, JV, Leake

RP: Kimbrel, Britton, Iglesias, Knebel

I could see Garcia instead. Or even Taylor if you don't need the flexibility. Would not be indefensible to drop JV.

Travis Shaw is my mid-season MVP, he's been awesome.
Dombrowski has been getting heat around here for trading him for Tyler Thornburg, who still isn't close to throwing a pitch. And for the continued failed attempt of Sandoval at 3B.

Meh. Nobody was screaming on either side when this trade was made. Shaw was a guy how had done nothing in the minors, came up and had a very nice couple months, then completely fell off a cliff in August.

Nobody envisioned him doign what he is doing, nor did anyone expect Thornburg to not throw a pitch all year.

Now, expecting Sandoval to give you anything was more of the problem.

In 2nd place but need some help at SS with Correa going down. Picked up Jose Reyes, but.....yuck.

Got offered Chris Taylor and George Springer for Josh Donaldson and JD Martinez.

Have Gurriel who I feel fine putting in at 3B instead of Donaldson.

So...Taylor for real? I love JD and I like him going to ARI, but Springer is clearly an upgrade there, IMO.

Thoughts?

Looking to acquire Kershaw for the stretch run and playoffs in a H2H points league.  Got burned by him last year in same circumstance.  The only thing I can find thus far is it's not a disc issue like last year.  Does anybody have any more info?  Is 4-6 weeks likely?  I have heard speculation that it was a muscle injury, anybody have anything further?

Depending on when your playoffs are, be careful. The Dodgers objective is to make sure he is at his peak early October. Which may mean an irritating September given their current position in the division.  Even if he rehabs without issue.

Especially with the depth of SPs they have.  I doubt he starts more than once a week in September.  I mean, they were inventing injuries to rotate guys so far this year.  Won't even need to do that in Sept with the expanded rosters.

I have a decision to make before this weekend.  I'm in a dynasty league that uses contracts, the length of which is determined by where we draft the player.  A 1st round pick is a 5-year contract, 2nd and 3rd are both 4-years, 4th through 6th are 3-year and 7-10 are 2-year.  Our reserve players are all 1-year players.  We have the opportunity to spend one of our 2-year picks to retain one of the free agents we've picked up through the season if desired with a 2-year that doesn't tick until next season.  Our starters include both corner and middle infielders and we start 5 outfielders in addition to a DH (can be any position player).

The FAs I have to pick from are Happ at 2b, Simmons at SS, Devers at 3b and Dickerson in the OF.  I do have Correa and Healy returning next season, but have room at both CI and MI.  All of those FA players are currently starting for me.  I'm tempted by Devers, but don't want his recent promotion and small sample to weigh too heavily.  Both 2b and 3b will have no notable players available that are surfire early round picks (I have two first rounders next year) so Happ or Devers are the two I'm heavily considering.

What do you guys think?

edit:  Looks like I missed a couple of players that will be available next year.  Freeman will have 3rd base eligibility with another 4 games and Whit Merrifield might be available if his owner doesn't tag.  He's got Travis Shaw as an option so I can see Merrifield not getting the FA tag.

Happ and Devers are both good options here imo.

Simmons no, Dickerson beware. I'd say Devers is the highest upside guy here but Happ is growing on me.

I'd lean Devers, he definitely has a Job in hand IMO. I could see the Cubs dinking around with Happ, kind of doing that lately with him sitting more.

Agreed.  Happ is certainly more interesting long term than Dickerson, but in the near future I don't think their values are a whole lot different.  The risk with going Dickerson is 2015, but if he hits even just 80% of what he's been doing then he plays and produces.  Even if Happ keeps this up I'm not sure the Cubs will stop jerking around with his playing time.

I'm is 2nd place, 12 team roto, 5 pts back. At or near top is HR, RBI & R. Last in AVG (by a lot, lost cause) and near bottom in SBs. Was offered the following;

Get: Dee Gordon, Yelich, Salazar

Give: Bellinger, Thames, Gennett

I see it as almost a 3 for 1 with Thames/Gennett overachieving early but damn near droppable lately. Adding Gordon alone should move me up 4 spots in SBs by season end. Salazar RP eligibility also helps with Ws, which I need. And Ks.

Keep 4 bats so this likely means keeping Gordon instead of Bellinger, which sucks hard. Leaning yes but want some opinions.

How long can you keep Bellinger? If you can keep him 2-3 years at a reasonable cost that's tough to do. Any cheap steals like Maybin or Dyson available? Ozzie Albies?

Not a chance.  With that said, I wouldn't trade Bellinger unless Gordon could basically guarantee a championship.
If I can maintain my position in the power categories I put my chances at around 75%, and to that end I added me giving up Gattis (also have Sanchez) and getting Hosmer to the deal, and he accepted. Also added Albies last week.

Worth the gamble to me but will suck if I come up short.

Is Miguel Cabrera even worth a spot on the bench anymore? Thinking about picking up Chris Taylor (LAD) who plays every position it seems. I haven't started Miguel in weeks.

H2H seminfinals. Last dayof matchup today. Tied 5-5.

Which closer would you sit from Wade Davis, Brad Hand, Fernando Rodney, and Matt Belisle? Davis has pitched 2.1 innings over past two days, so only reason i am contemplating him is because of that.

Going into my 6x6 H2H semifinals this week as the top seed and I have exactly ONE start from my rotation before Thursday.

Scherzer goes Tuesday (actually moved up a day, I believe)

C. Martinez, Roark on Thursday

deGrom, Verlander on Friday

Quintana on Saturday

Kluber apparently has been pushed all the way to Sunday, giving him a full week off.

:bs:

Ok I'm looking ahead to next year after another disappointing playoff loss.  I get 8 keepers in a league that rewards quality starts.  Head-to-head and pretty standard scoring.  I keep 8 out of the following 10:

1.  Blackmon - definite keeper

2.  JD Martinez - definite keeper

3.  Lindor - definite keeper

4.  Donaldson - definite keeper

5.  Rendon - I'm thinking he's a keeper

6.   Schoop - breakout year at a weak position; not sure what to do with him

7.  Benintendi - great potential; seems to have a 20/20 floor so I'm kind of leaning towards keeping him

8.  Abreu - I hate to lose a guy who will give 30 HRs/ 100 RBIs every year but 1b is one of the easier positions to find a decent contributor later in the year;  I'm still leaning towards keeping him

9.  Verlander - I know he's getting up there but I can't see how I can drop him after the past 2 seasons

10.  Paxton - guy is a stud but he's never healthy;  leaning towards dropping and hopefully getting a chance to draft him

Right now, my inclination is to drop Paxton and Schoop.  Any thoughts?
