Oakland #1 WR- Porter or Curry ? (1 Viewer)

Porter's ADP is in the 10th round/ Curry is the 13th-

I'm thinking either would be a great #5 WR on my team.

Did Porter play in the Raiders second pre-season game? He didn't have any stats.

Right now I'm thinking Curry could be a steal in the 13th round.

It depends on who's the starting quarterback. If it's McCown I like Curry a little better. If it's Culpepper I like Porter a little better. If it's Walter than I stay as far away from both of them as possible.

Mike Williams was part of the Raiders 1st team redzone package last night!!!! Replacing Ronald Curry of all people. Travis Taylor remained in the game as well. This would easily drop RC on my list. Moving him to "players to watch" list. Sitting and waiting for this to change.

I am very intrigued by Curry, I will be targeting him late. Its comments like these that have me even more intrigued. I'll plead ignorance with how he is looking in camp and how he will be used this season, so if any homers have some solid insight, I am all ears.

Easily Curry. Fantasy Nation is making a big mistake discounting this guy, and especially rating Porter higher. Think Hines Ward when you think Curry this year. As for red zone packages and Mike Williams, they are experimenting in preseason, that's all. It's not a concern. Curry is 6'2" 210 and strong with the best hands among their WRs. In camp he was regularly the WR red zone target. Again, think Hines Ward who has had a lot of red zone looks for PIT the last several years. At his ADP of about WR45 Curry is pure gold this year. Crappy team? They were crappy last year, and once pouty Randy Moss sat down with his "injury" Curry was 33-339 on 44 targets the last quarter of the season.By the way, it's natural to wonder if Curry's late season emergence was a fluke. Consider -- before Moss, before Curry's two achilles injuries, he and Porter shared the field as starters in 2004. What were Curry's numbers the four games immediately before the initial achiles injury? 23-372-4 on 30 targets, with Porter there. He also had a 10-catch game earlier that year, not included in those numbers.

So, the last 4 games of 2006 extrapolate to a ridiculous 132-1356 on 176 targets (which would never happen) and the last 4 games of 2004 (the last time he started previously) extrapolate to a ridiculous 92-1488-16 (which also would never happen). While those extrapolations are ridiculous, Curry is ridiculously good and that fact has only been masked by injury and the acquisition of Randy Moss. Both are in the past, and Curry will shock many people this year with his numbers.

Excellent post. I've benn saying since his first injury that he's a stud in the making. Now that he's fully recovered the injury concerns are eased. Not knocking Porter but Curry makes guys look silly out there at times. He makes routine catches and the unral. He's the future now and in the future. So long as he stays healthy. And for getting him in the later rounds, well that leaves you low risk with huge upside.

Those are great yards/reception figures, but I don't see the total picture as overly impressive. I think many are still being enamored by his 9 TD season.

I see it this way:

Oakland will have to pass the ball - and Curry and Porter are the two main targets.

I think their running game will find it tough to be even average, meaning their passing game will need to be used more than average.

When you figure the numbers, I think Curry (who I think is better than Porter) can hit 1000 yards and 8 TD's this year under CPepper. Under Russell, it is a different story.

Very well said. I like both and think that the OAK offense will not be horrible this year.I thought that Curry would be getting the most attention of the two because he had an NFL-high 33 catches in the last 4 games of the season (according to the Fantasy Index) but ADP doesn't back that up (Porter 115/WR41, Curry 131/WR 44).

I dont see one guy outproducing the other by a ton. They both should have similar stats. Though a buddy of mine who's a diehard Raiders fan said that Porter is playing the KEY WR position in Kiffin's offensive scheme. Take it for FWIW.

The SJax owner in my league just offered me Curry for my Leonard. I really was not considering it because I doubt I would use Curry. However after drinking some KoolAid in this post I think I am going to accept.

However, does anyone have faith in the QB situation in Oakland? It sure seems like it is going to be volatile all year.

I don't think the QB spot will be volatile at all. With that D, and some decent O play, they could actually have a winning record going into week 14, so they'll stick with Culpepper unless he gets hurt or stinks it up.
